Pretty fucking frustrated with this NotN. I’ve had a a total of maybe 5 chests from gathering this week. The last two days, I’ve gotten nothing. Not sure what’s going on, if I’m somehow doing something wrong (pretty sure that’s not it, since this is my 4th NotN). I am fully aware that I can brew chests and that they’ll drop in the Coli, but I’ve got 3 kids home for winter break, and I work until Target closes at 10, sooo that isn’t always an option. Just frustrated and needed to vent.....

I WAS SO CONFUSED WHEN I WENT TO VISIT TOMO AND BALDWIN THIS MORNING

Kaziel, Member of the Niharikian Clan,  Mate to Zanviol, Bathymaas, Nykyrian, Xingfa, and Surial. A quiet researcher with a streak of mad scientist in him Kaziel entered the clan along side his partner Nykyrian hoping to find a new research lab to work with. To this day he’s not quiet sure how they ended up with Zanviol and the rest of his partners but he’s sure the persistent flirting and gifts had something to do with it. Member of the Research, Development and Experimentation SubGuilds. He normally manages to stay out of the way in the back libraries surrounded by stacks and stacks of research papers. Occasionally he comes across a new untested technique in the research and then it is a struggle to keep him from blowing up the lab with whatever jackalope-brained idea he gotten into his head this time. Luckily most of the time it just takes a couple of days of keeping him out of the testing lab for him to put such ideas to the side. When he’s not reviewing papers he’s usually at home leaning against one of his partners and reading a book. Holds the ability to generate excessive amounts electrical energy as sort of a living generator. Extremely shy and easily frazzled dragon. Absolutely blown away that any of his partners are interested in him.

Okay, Funny Story Time

If you’ve been reading my dragon posts recently, you will know of Lady Cora, and have possibly heard of her rivalry with Lady Magiere, which sparks from both of their previous clan.

Lady Cora

Now, I inherited both Cora and Magiere from a very dear friend of mine when she was doing a lair purge this summer. Both dragons were too great to let fall to the Shadowbinder, so she asked if I would take them. I agreed. The thing is, both dragons have connections with one of my friend’s favourite dragons of all time.

Legba

Meet Legba, the most glamourous, most violent and most powerful dragon you will ever meet. Seriously, you do not want to cross her. Now, Magiere was her right hand gal, until she left to pursue something greater, but that’s another story. Cora, on the other hand, saw herself as Legba’s rival. In all reality, Legba and Cora are in completely seperate leagues, and Legba would beat Cora in just about anything, but Cora is persistent and highly obnoxious. Legba was all too happy to see Cora go.

Then one day, I found myself thinking about how insufferable Cora would be if a handsome guardian claimed her as his charge. Cora has a thing for muscular men, and having someone who basically worshipped her would make her all the more proud and obnoxious. So, I did a search on the AH and picked up this fellow.

Toren

Now, he doesn’t look like much, but let me tell you, the moment I saw him I knew he was perfect. Why? Because having a guardian like this would manage to not only make Cora twice as obnoxious, but it would also tread on the toes of her old rival back in the Tangled Wood, because Toren bears quite the resemblance to a dear old friend of Legba’s who was given away in the recent lair purge.

Torgin

My friend had had Torgin as long as she has had Legba. The two of them go way back. Torgin was once the leader of the clan, and he had a massive crush on Legba. Legba wouldn’t give him the time of day. Still, she used that attraction to get herself the power she has in the clan. She probably barely cared that he left, after all she had no use for him, but after Toren found Cora, the bogsneak wrote her old rival a letter to gloat.

A couple weeks later I check my inbox to see a message from my friend. It’s Legba, writing to let Cora know that she has a new addition to her clan.

Torger

Well, Cora wasn’t having that. I immediately jumped on the AH, searching for any XYY crystal guardian in the purple range, and I soon shot back with Cora’s new guard. After all, 2 is better than 1.

Torge

At this point, war was breaking out. Legba may be above Cora, but Cora has a way of getting under her scales, and Legba reacts to that. At this point, I was fully prepared to find myself spending my treasure on purple crystal guardians. My lair would be full of them. There was no alternative. Cora is nothing if not stubborn, and the same can be said for Legba, and my friend and I have worked out long ago that our dragons run our clans far more than we do. I wondered what her next move would be. I would have never expected what actually came.

The next morning, I wake up to find another message in my inbox. Legba has made her move. I open the message and to my astonishment I found that she has managed a move that has won the whole thing.

She found the original Torgin on the AH. Torgin had come home. There was no way I could beat that.

I regretfully admitted defeat. I found myself wishing I had seen the original Torgin, but there was no use wishing, the war was won.

To rub it in further, Legba sent Torger, her own Torgin replacement, over to Cora as a consolation prize. Deep down, Cora knows she has lost, but that won’t stop her from clinging to her three knock-off Torgins until her final breath. After all, 3 is better than 1, isn’t it? Isn’t it?

And that’s the story of why I have 3 nearly identical guardians with nearly identical names and barely any personality in my lair. It’s also the story about why any purple crystal guardians (with the exception of Torgin of course) will now always look cheap and shallow to me, because of this petty fight between two shallow dragons.
