Reminder: Roe is gone. There is no "protecting" it. There is no reinstating it; that's not how SCOTUS decisions work.
The options to regain the protections we had under Roe are:
Congress passes a law establishing those as actual federal rights, or
SCOTUS makes a new ruling that overrides Dobbs and establishes some measure of health care and privacy rights.
Either way, we wouldn't have the exact same rights we had under Roe. With luck, we'd have better: a right to privacy actually stated in so many words in the law, a right to health care not being changed by legislature drawn up by non-medical personnel.
But we won't be getting Roe back. We need to focus on a future based on what we have now, not what we used to have.
Because as things are now, the conservatives are perfectly happy to let the status quo stand, to let some states require teenage girls to die of ectopic pregnancies while others create safe havens... for those with the money and time to access them.
We are no longer defending our rights; we are fighting for rights we don't currently have.
We need all the votes we can get, because they are fighting like hell to keep us away from that.
