Despite the quiet politeness of his voice Penny still finds themselves jumping at the sound of someone behind them. They'd been far too focused on the code they were double, no triple, checking on their phone and lost all sense of who was around them. Perhaps not the safest thing to do in public. But they were so close to finishing their work they couldn't bring themselves to put it down even when they were going into town for food. They only looked away when they quickly hid the phone in their pocket, like a child trying to hide a stolen sweet, and turned to face the one talking to them.

"Oh- Uhh... It's no biggie. I was just finishing up that game anyway..."

They mutter the half hearted lie more to the ground then to the stranger. They glanced over him quickly in attempts to ascertain what validity they could to his words. They'd heard a new professor was joining the academy and he certainly had the look of someone who spent their time locked away indoors where the sun couldn't find them. Not unlike Penny themselves.

"Y-yeah. I do. I'm a student there. It's that..."

They turn to point in the direction of the academy only to realize the route wasn't as straight ahead as they'd thought. Thinking on it they'd had to take several turns and sets of stairs to just get here. Pointing in a direction for him to follow would likely just get him more lost. And getting the new teacher lost on his first day probably wouldn't look good on Penny's already spotty record. Despite really not wanting to offer to walk him there, Penny knew offering to do so would at least put them in better graces then just pointing in the direction.

"Errmmm... I... It's kind of a complicated way. I could give you directions... Or umm... I guess. I'm heading there now. I could... Show you. If you want."

curious, already. what on earth had this one been working on to be so startled? he had experienced something of the like when he had been so engrossed in his work that any disturbance of it would prompt a reaction. the hiding was no less interesting as the intensity of their dedication to do whatever they might have been doing. how tempted he was to pry into their mind--he didn't know how this world worked yet. it was a conundrum of how far he wanted to go before he finally threw caution to the wind and begun to allow himself to fail. how else would he learn?

" game...? "

the quiet questioning coated the single word, coming across as a mutter as he watched. he doubted it was just a game--though whatever it was, learning about it could wait.

" ah! you're a student? lovely. "

one of his students, he would hope. he missed doing this sort of thing--teaching, that is. academies were always something he enjoyed infiltrating; so many bright minds. so many curious individuals, and all left out for him to peel open and learn everything about. let it be physically, or just the mental. even a mind could be worth dissecting, it was what made each person unique. sinister tilted his head upward to follow the point towards the academy, his gaze lingering a moment longer then moving back to focus on penny.

" if it's not any TROUBLE, i would appreciate being lead there. i'm rather UNFAMILIAR with this region. "

Satoru was, indeed, lost not used to the lay of the land although undoubtably similar to what he was used to in a way. Not the city he's known, but every hospital is at least a good bit similar. It wasn't terribly busy, in fact it was about 7:41AM and the hospital was dead quiet. Of course staff were occupying the halls intermittently but nothing too busy. He wasn't ill nor injured, but he used to be a frequent flier of the hospital bed- nothing unfamiliar. But he was certain he'd be given help if he asked. Much more preferably than, say, a police station. So when the help naturally came up to him he offered a smile up towards the man, practically beaming. A doctor-- or nurse perhaps? He didn't judge either way, a member of staff is a member of staff. "That would be great, sir." The boy was respectful, more than normal and his tone attempting to sound more mature. "I.." He paused, trying to think for a moment the best way to word his request. Satoru certainly didn't want the police, but he also couldn't ask for directions in the normal sense. "I don't need help finding a section of the hospital. But if you have a map I'd be grateful! I'm trying to find my hotel." A rather bold faced lie, there was no hotel, but the man in front of him seemed nice, after all he was even offering to help. Satoru just wanted to view the map, which he perhaps could have just asked to see.

for the moment, it seemed this child was otherwise normal. not that there was anything wrong with that, of course--even the most mundane things had something worth studying. that being said, he just needed to keep prying to reach it--like peeling back the layers of skin to get into the chest cavity, sometimes it took a gentle approach; other times it took something far more rough. for now, soft features remained coated in sugared concern. how could a child like this be alone? and why in a hospital of all places--if anything the loner part was the most fascinating part. if he were an orphan, then sinister would be glad to take advantage of that funny little detail.

" ahh...your hotel? may i know the name? i'm QUITE familiar with this area. "

nathan milbury gave a reassuring smile, pulling from his coat his mobile device and opening a maps app. that wouldn't be an issue at all--once he knew where this child was going, he could properly find a place with far less attention; even if at the moment, the hospital was rather empty.

" i don't recall you being ADMITTED to this hospital, child. why are you here, as well...? where are you PARENTS? "

another visit, another day, another odd little thing that he'd seek to do more with if not for the unfortunate restrictions of krakoa. this petri dish was one of observation and occasional willing assistance; permission and all that nonsense. mutants themselves were his, everything was his eventually. it was a scientist's right to study what was right before him. still, his voice was a low hum, not even bothering to look at the young mutant.

" CURIOUS how often you come here. the others may begin to think i'm FORCING YOU to. for once, it seems, i am NOT. "

speaking as casually about the possibility as anyone might to talking about the weather or what they had for breakfast. sinister found all of the quote-on-quote new mutants to be fascinating. some that he had the pleasure of digging into, others that he has had to keep his distance. how sad that was, really. yet most people did not lie directly beneath his scalpel.

" IMAGINE IT, how many DIRECTIONS it could be taken in, how much you could HELP OTHERS by simply...DONATING YOURSELF to me, and allowing me to do my WORK. "

THE WORDS ARE NOT UNEXPECTED, exactly, but they barely seem to break through the clear ennui written over the younger man's features. he knows, oh, he does that sinister is no simple threat to wave off, but he has seen such destruction, has woven it with his own hands so very often, that villainy seems... commonplace. it is in him, isn't it? something rotten, broken by the shi'ar and reshaped into his own drive for violence.

sinister hardly had to do anything to do with it and he's woven such deep scars into the galaxy itself. what, exactly, could the man do that could startle him, that could make him any more wayward?

(it is boyish arrogance that makes him stare once again at the abyss and refuse to look away. hubris at its finest.)

"what can you learn from me that will be of use? you already have learned enough from the rest of my family tree, man of science." he all but sighs, the ambarine glow of his eyes turning towards sinister. his lips quirk up, a half smile all too foreboding for anyone acquainted with the mad king's mercurial moods. "unless you want to study the nature of the deviance in my genes, of course. that, i could understand."

his destruction was a different sort of the apocalypse and sentinel types. sinister was destructive in the way of wills--taking away the rights of those that thought they had choice and giving the reality check of who was really in charge of their stories. who wrote and read out their tale from start to end. he who held the pen and ink, who chose one's future. perhaps he didn't have that amount of control on everyone--not yet--but he certainly would, one day.

his heavy hand did not grasp around another unless he knew of it's necessity. this one before him--this wayward son of sorts--was a peculiarity. i wonderful yet terribly unstable asset. when working with volatile variables, one had to be careful. to wear the right gloves, to take the proper precautions; or risk contamination and utter disaster.

" OH SURE, i have learned from your brothers, but YOU? no, no, i haven't learned about YOU beyond what is...SURFACE LEVEL. "

there's almost pity that is painted over pale features. the soft smile mixed with a furrowed up turned brow. it was almost sad, how little this one knew of the extent he could experiment with one family. there were endless possibilities, after all.

" your DEVIANCE, of course. your POTENTIAL, every aspect of you. i would seek to REACH IN-- "

sinister made a gesture of reaching his hand forward, fingers out stretched, then tighten into a fist as if he were grasping at the air. perhaps, gabriel would even feel a tug of telekinesis; nothing too impactful; but something of a pull towards the geneticist.

" --and see what TERRIBLE WRONGS have been done to you, and your GENES, and your BODY. your ABILITIES...surely they have not gone untampered with, have they? "

he pressed his hand to his chin, his eyes narrowing slightly. the next statement was a little more telling. sprout a new him? well, that might happen for another reason, but not in the way that lobo might be thinking.

" i'm afraid a HEALING FACTOR could do the same, it would hardly be telling if we're RELATED or not. " he could just regrow his head, it was the lovely part about having complete control over his molecules--and having quite the healing factor.

unquestioningly, he follows behind Sinister, wide eyed-gaze scraping across the machinery . he didn’t fully UNDERSTAND what the man did, but he knew it was important . necessary . not to be questioned . and ultimately — GOOD .

the hand catches Tristan off guard for a moment, considering the request . he remembers the day he got it, with a pounding heart and little confidence . Miguel’s words in his head ring, to NOT LET it fall into the wrong hands .

❝ of c - course . that’s not a problem at all . ❞ with his free hand, the watch his unhooked and slid off, and offered swiftly .

❝ I’ll do … just that . I don’t want them to be scared of me, aha … ❞ he’d find the sphinx cat and turtle in question soon, acquaint himself with them . yes, that was what he would do .

it was for the best, at times, for things like these to not understand what he was doing, nor the machinery he used. tristan wasn't a dull thing, nor a daft one--but he suspected if given too much too fast, he would need to do a full reset. and how sad would that be? to have to restart from square one after so much progress anyway? no, no, he didn't want that, not at all.

all he needed to know, was that it was for the better. everything sinister did was for good.

the smile pressed further up his face, nearly cutting it in two when he was offered the watch. he was careful to take it into his hand, testing the resilience between glossy black fingers. finally, did he let go of his tight grip around tristan's wrist, and move over towards a desk.

" no, my boy, THANK YOU. you are doing so much GOOD, soon everyone will see that. "

an examination of such an interesting device--traversal of universes was something he wouldn't mind making more attainable. how much effort had it taken before? perhaps if he mixed this with what he could attain from another subject...yes, yes. the feline and tortoise wouldn't take long to arrive, curiously examining tristan for themselves. he so enjoyed when subjects were tolerant of each other.

" and yes, i would like to LOOK THROUGH your eyes when you're in that...other place. for now, do TELL ME about it. tell me all you can. "

it wouldn't be difficult for one to assume the worse from the man clad in black and red. he was as a walking suit, one painted metaphorically in the blood of all that he had collected, experimented on, and looked forward to owning in his own sort of way. the step away from him only brought the geneticist to step forward again--how far would be back until he ran? until he stopped? until he fell into the deep end of a trap? animals, canines no less, so hated to be cornered.

" my, MY, i'm not exactly SELLING anything. "

a lifted finger, although physical, his form seemed to shine like oil, the black fabric glistening in a sickening way. as if it might drown someone just at the touch; coated in anesthesia that had been used over and over.

" no, if anything, i am BUYING, and you are the PRODUCT. now please, answer my QUESTION, or i might seek to find it out MYSELF. "
