This could be a controversial topic BUT
I feel like some people forget they have the option to scroll. You don't like the genre? Scroll! You don't like the characters? Scroll! You don't like the author? Scroll! You don't like the plot? Scroll!!
There's no need to make it anyone's problem!
I follow a writer, who mainly writes based on ASOIAF and she was saying how people hated on her oc, or when she even received death threats for not giving HER OWN FIC a happy ending.
Yes, i want my OC to be Visenya, Rhaenyra's and Daemon's only daughter, who rides cannibal and has like 3 other dragons and 43 love interests. Yes, this is what i want to write about because (again) its my story, my imagination, this is how i want my story to be. Don't like it? Fine by me? Find it extremely cringe? Me and 2-3 people will like it and its fine by me!
I (and many others) write because i like expressing my daydreams that way and i love spending time like this. I write because above all i want to be able to enjoy my own fics and have a good time writing it. We are different people, we have different interests, opinions, likes and dislikes. A fic can't be liked by everyone and just because the plot or characters aren't to your liking it doesn't give you the right to harass the writer (who mind you does this for FREE).
I love that in some people are like: OMG no one writes fics for x fandom or x character. Yes, it's because some people are SO toxic, that writers get discouraged from writing anything because we've already seen the hate some people braver than us got when they published.
Yes i want my OCs to be overpowered bad bitch nepo babies, yes i want it to have the most powerful men in the story as lovers. And if you don't like it just SCROLL!
Thank you and goodnight
And yes freedom of speech means you're free to express your opinion but it doesn't give you the right to harass, threaten, or bully people because you don't like what they write. I've also seen people on TikTok making posts about how certain fanfics, OCs, or tropes are weird. You're free to think that, but I don't think it's right to act as though your personal taste determines what others should create. What seems bad or cringe to one person might be exactly what another person enjoys writing and/or reading. You can dislike a genre or trope all you want, but shaming or harassing people for their creativity is unnecessary. Writing fanfiction is supposed to be fun. Most writers are sharing their work for free because they enjoy it, not because they're trying to please every person on the internet.
don't forget blocking ✌🏽
If I see content I don't agree with I simply check their page and of it's a pattern I block them because I do not wish to see it but it's their blog to do what they will
