The Dominicans
The Domincans today (Philippines):
The Dominican priests run top universities namely:
-Unibersidad ng Santo Tomas (Asia's oldest university)
-Colegio de San Juan de Letran (399 year-old college)
Along side this, they run two general hospitals:
- University of Santo Tomas Hospital
- Aquinas University Hospital in Legazpi)
and a charity hospital, San Martin de Porres Hospital, in San Juan.
The Dominicans before (Philippines):
During the Spanish Colonialism, the Dominicans are in charge of the University of Manila. The University was attended with a number of natives ranging between two to three thousand. The following account of the studies pursued in the University, taken from the official report of the year 1893–1894, is a sufficient answer to the unworthy remark of the correspondent from Daily Telegraph which states "the education of the people has been exclusively in their (the religious’) hands, it is enough to say that practically it does not exist."
