This fic is for @simamisgrape's Raising a Baby that shouldn't exist au
Little Hastur, about five years old, was a bit grumpy. It was feeling something, at first it thought it was sick but it remembered that it was impossible for it to get sick, so it scratched that option off. You might think that it would go to Avery or Derek for help but no, it was too much of a prideful all-knowing eldritch to ask it's mortal caregivers for help. So it resorted to the other all-knowing being that it considered as a sibling, the internet.
When Hastur was a baby Derek and Avery, well mostly Avery, used the internet to learn how to take care of a baby. Derek did grow up as the oldest child so he kinda knew how to take care of a child but not really a baby, but Avery was a lonely only child who could barely take care of himself.
Anyways, in the house there were only four ways to access the internet, Derek’s phone, Avery’s phone, the laptop, and Avery’s desktop. The two adults’ phones would be almost impossible to get to since there wouldn’t be any open window for it to get to them plus both of them had impossible to crack codes. The laptop was only kept since it was linked to the minecraft world that it originated from. So that left Avery’s desktop, the one he bought after the incident to replace the cursed laptop. It had seen him put in the password so many times it had memorized it.
So while Avery was at work and Derek was taking a nap thinking that Hastur was also taking a nap when it was really getting onto the desktop. It typed in the password which was just MayoLord3 which Hastur thought was kinda stupid but no one would even guess that as the password. It opened the Google, which was another name for the internet that it knew of.
It typed away, asking it why it was feeling an emotion. Hastur found out that it might have alexithymia or probably just a sociopath, but it realized it lacked emotions like most human beings. But what the Google told it was that it was starting to feel one of the simplest emotions, happiness. But that didn't make sense for it since it wasn't feeling that emotion during any activities, no it felt that emotion when they were with Avery and Derek.
So it dug deeper into internet rabbit holes. Finally Hastur found the answer and it made sense. What it was feeling was love. At first it thought love was only romantic but as it kept searching it discovered that there wasn't just romantic love but platonic love, the type you feel with family and friends. It understood that it was feeling love, love for it's caregivers, no parents.
It decided that it had done enough digging and shut the computer down and went to take a nap. Being a child takes a lot of energy plus Derek was gonna be taking it to the park after it's nap.
“Come on Hastur, we're gonna go to the park.” Derek got his hoodie and hat on to keep a low profile.
Hastur was having a bit of problems with these stupid shoe laces. Derek noticed that and went over to the couch where it was struggling.
“Here let me help you.” Derek tied the laces for the child deity, while it pouted.
He thought it was kinda cute how much it acted like a tsundere. The first time Avery brought it up he laughed but now it grew on him and it's now a part of how he sees Hastur.
“Seriousl– for an “all knowing” entity. You'd think it would know how to tie it's own shoes.” Derek joked around, which unknowingly almost got a laugh out of Hastur.
“Now what's the magic word?” He tested it.
“Thanks…father,” Hastur shocked Derek but he didn't show it too much, not wanting to make it shy away, “uhh… for the laces...”
“It looks like Avery's “How to be human” lessons are working.” Derek took the kid's hand leading it to the door.
“Indeed.” It answered while exiting the door.
“Now let's get to the park.” The two walked down the street which had a small park.
And Derek made sure to tell that he was in the car alone with Avery when he broke the news about Hastur calling him father because as he predicted Avery squealed so loud dogs started barking from the park from the frequency. Then Avery started wondering when Hastur would call him papa.
Just an fyi, Hastur calls Avery mama just to mess with him.
