Can we like⦠stop arguing so much about whether or not a god existsā¦
Like thereās no real way to prove whether or not a god exists. I believe thereās some god out there. It makes me happier. Some of my friends believe thereās no god. It makes them happier. We co-exist just fine. End of story.
No real point in arguing this so much, in my opinion, since I donāt think anyoneās opinion is really gonna change.
Just some thoughts
yeah this argument is rather weak i feel
you can't "prove" that you're not in a simulation, but we shouldn't go out killing people and blowing up buildings and destroying the enviroment because "it's all just code, it's not real"
you can't "prove" that everyone you know aren't secretly lizard people part of a conspiracy to kill you, but you shouldn't start murdering them in "self defense"
or to give a more realistic example, you can't "prove" that a homophobic god exists that will only send you to heaven if you're homophobic
We have a responsibility to not believe these kinds of claims, and if we decide it's okay to believe unfalsifiable, unproven things, we can't criticize these kinds of actions without being hypocrites.
(i feel it's rather overly simplistic to look at religion, this thing that people have lived and died for, that wars have been started over, that society has been drivena bd controlled by for centuries, that has beliefs that are mutually exclusive and contradictory to eachother, and just go "cmon guys get along šš")
I try to keep my mind open and my opinions willing to change. As long as you do too I think there is still hope that people's opinions will change?
Anyway I don't really have much a problem with Deists or people who just believe that there must be "a god" out there; but I don't think this philosophy should be used to condone religions that designate a specific god or specific beliefs or a specific holy book or specific moral truths
Ok wait youāre right I forget than when I post stuff on the internet not everyone has a live tour of my brain š
So I think a more accurate way to phrase my argument would be that I donāt see a point in debating that there is or isnāt a god, but itās absolutely important and crucial to debate the effect that this belief or non-belief has on other people who agree or disagree with you (though it has been my experience that people who donāt believe in a god tend to have far less of a negative effect on those who disagree with them than those who do. Although it mostly is deists who identify with a religion that have that negative effect rather than agnostics or similars. Go figure I guess).
Hopefully that clarifies my argument a little more, but if you see any holes please point them out I love it when my arguments are dissected :)
