Slytherin!Harry AU (x)
#slytherin harry would have been the ultimate choice from an authorial perspective#the chosen one coming out of a house disgraced by racism and the dark arts#a living testament to the fact that slytherin house is the fast track to greatness and that good or evil is a CHOICE#also harry already had a brush with slytherin during his sorting and can speak parseltounge and all that awesome stuff#because lets be real harry is brave as hell but hes also cunning, determined to survive#a little duplicitious#and thrives on praise#slytherin harry could be besties with ron AND close to Draco#he could break down interhouse prejudice and be the bright light in a noble house that has fallen into darkness#he could put an end to the honestly awful Griffyndor/Slytherin bullying that GOES BOTH WAYS because screw this idea that you have to choose a side, that you have to compete with people who are different than you#and he could struggle with his inner demons the whole time#because characters that could easily go bad who get up every day choosing to be good will always be more important to me than inhernetly good ones
Daggo “A Tale of Two Chiefs” Chapter 3 Part 2
Dagur gave a slightly random chuckle.
Viggo raised a questioning eyebrow.
Dagur noticed and he smiled. “Oh I was just thinking about how you’re right concerning whole dad thing. They tend to favor the child whose most like them.”
“You mean you-” Viggo started.
“Yep. When I was a child I was the “runt” of my family, my father wasn’t strong like me, but he was really smart, and so favored Heather. She even at an early age showed promise of inheriting her father’s wisdom. My father didn’t much care for me before Heather was born, he always tried to form me to his image, but he always failed, so when Heather came along he ignored me completely. He allowed me at a young age to get into my own trouble, but when it turned sour, he never had my back. I mean he never abused me, but he certainly neglected me. And,“ He sighed. “my mother died giving birth to Heather, so I never had a mother to pay attention to me and nurture me. I grew up in the shadow of my little sister’s greatness, and therefore came to resent her.”
Viggo looked down apologetically. “That would explain why you sent her adrift and why you claimed to kill your father after he went missing.”
“Yeah, but I can’t blame her. It’s not her fault, none of it is.” Dagur replied with a sigh. “I never should have abandoned her, especially not after father disappeared, she had no one but me. I’m her big brother, I’m supposed to protect her.” A tear shed from his eye. “I don’t blame her for holding resentment against me for it. I would too, even now.”
Viggo hugged Dagur as he heard the shudder in his voice when he spoke. “There there, Chief. Your sister loves you, you’ve earned her respect. You risked your life for her and her friends multiple times.”
Dagur collapsed into heaving sobs in Viggo’s arms. “I love her too. I would give my life just to take back the day I set her to sea.”
“I know you would.” Said another voice as the sound of dragons landing entered the cave.
Dagur choked back another sob, quickly wiped his eyes and turned around. “Heather?” He said as she dismounted Windshear. “What are you doing here?”
“Yes, and how did you find us?” Viggo asked.
“Toothless is a surprisingly good tracker for a strike class dragon.” Hiccup said, emerging from around the bend. “Aren’t you bud?” He said, scratching under the night fury’s chin.
Toothless purred at the compliment.
Viggo smiled, happy to see Hiccup. “I told you you would defeat them, my dear Hiccup. I’m glad to see you succeeded.”
“I’m glad to see you’re alive.” Hiccup replied.
“I told you I would disappear.” He shrugged.
“And you kept your word, Viggo.” Hiccup smiled giving him a hug.
Viggo was shocked but hugged back.
Dagur took the opportunity to hug his sister. “Heather, I’m so sorry.”
Heather held him tight. “I know. I forgive you, brother.”
“How?” Dagur asked. “How can you forgive me after everything I did?”
“Because you’re my brother, you’re all I have left of my family.” She smiled as he pulled away. “You’ve proven yourself worthy of my forgiveness.” She grabbed him by his chin as he hung his head. “Hey, a chief does not sulk. Look alive, brother. We’re here now.”
Dagur shook the feeling of guilt and sadness from him and addressed his siblings. “I have an announcement.” He said. “I have elected Viggo as my official adviser.”
Hiccup looked to Viggo for confirmation.
Viggo smiled and nodded.
And Heather looked at her brother like he was crazy, which he admittedly was.
“And I’ve accepted.” Viggo added.
Hiccup looked to them both and smiled in approval. “He is the best man for the job.”
“I know, right?” Dagur responded, happy that he had his brother’s approval.
Viggo looked to Heather who seemed a bit skeptical. “Heather, I’ve done some awful things in my past, I’ll admit, but I am trying to change. I want to be a better person, a better influence. I want to help and serve our tribe, keep it from the fate that befell my own.”
Heather sighed, then smiled, deciding to give him the benefit of the doubt. “I wish you the best of luck with your new profession, Viggo. But I doubt you’ll need it.”
“Many thanks, my dear Heather.” Viggo replied, bowing his head to her. “I appreciate the confidence you hold in me.”
“Well as Dagur said, there is no better for the job.”
Dagur squealed at his sister’s approval.
Hiccup, Viggo and Heather laughed at his reaction.
Toothless had been hesitant, but he remembered how Viggo had sacrificed himself and freed him, and now seeing Hiccup and Heather laughing and being friendly with Viggo, he approached him.
Viggo turned his attention to the night fury. “Toothless.” He said as he bowed his head in respect and acknowledgement. “It’s nice to see you again.”
Toothless returned the gesture, before coming up to him and bumping his arm with his head.
Viggo was astounded and from the shock he lifted his arm away from Toothless, but then as realization dawned upon him that it was a friendly gesture, he turned his head away and reached out his hand.
Toothless recognized the gesture and thought fondly of Viggo for deciding to use it, he closes his eyes and put his head into Viggo’s hand with a small purr.
Viggo looked back at Toothless, amazed at what he saw, he smiled. “I guess this means you trust me, huh?”
Toothless moved his head to look up at Viggo, and nodded.
“Well, I swear that I will work hard to make sure that I am worthy of your trust.” Viggo replied.
Hiccup saw all of this and was honestly not surprised that it happened. “Wow, that’s how I realized I should trust Dagur when he found me back on that island.”
Dagur turned to his brother. “You mean to tell me that Toothless trusted me before you did?”
“He let you ride him to save me. He doesn’t let just anyone ride him.” Hiccup responded. “That’s when I knew you were worthy of a second chance.” Hiccup thought for a second. “How did you get him to trust you? You never explained.”
Dagur chuckled and rubbed his neck nervously as he turned his head away. “I explained to him my concern and that how you were in trouble. He was now able to walk and move freely so I requested him to come with me, but he ducked under me and plopped me on his back, determined to save you.”
Toothless giggled at the memory of how Dagur had nearly barfed because his first ride was so fast.
“That dragon certainly has an admirable amount of loyalty to you, my dear Hiccup.”
Viggo’s skrill emerged from the shade and came up to rub his master’s arm with his head. He gave a friendly screech to Toothless, but approached Windshear, sniffing her, he tilted his head.
Windshear gave a friendly roar to the skrill, welcoming him to the group with a hello.
Onyx came closer and put his head under Windshear’s affectionately.
Windshear nuzzled him by wrapping her neck over Onyx’s head as to hug him.
Sleuther came out and purred at Dagur, nudging him roughly with his head.
Dagur laughed. “Woah woah, easy big boy.”
Sleuther licked him.
Dagur blushed, obviously embarrassed as his friends made cooing noises. He turned back to Sleuther and with a playfully angry look on his face, he whispered. “What did I tell you? Not in public.”
Sleuther laughed considering this a victory. He now approached Toothless and nodded respectfully at him, but he hugged Windshear, who was like a sister to him now.
Windshear screeched excitedly at him, ever since he had helped save her from drowning they had been really close and she loved him like a brother.
Viggo laughed. “It seems as though Onyx has some new friends.”
Hiccup and Heather looked at each other, confusion riddled across their faces. Hiccup turned back to Viggo. “Onyx?”
The Skrill screeched at his name and then returned to Viggo, standing proudly beside him.
Viggo smiled and petted Onyx’s head. “That is his name, my dear Hiccup.”
Hiccup smiled. “I like it.”
“He’s amazing.” Heather added.
“He saved me when I saved you, Hiccup. He took a couple dragon route arrows for me, and I took a couple more for him, as Dagur saw.”
“And treated.” Dagur added.
“Yes, Dagur tended to the wounds I had when he found me for which I am grateful.” Viggo replied to him. “I healed what wounds Onyx had before I fell unable to move properly. But I fear that without Onyx by my side, there would have been no way I survived the battle.”
“Well as I said before, Viggo, I’m happy you did.” Hiccup replied as he approached Onyx and touched his snout. “Thank you for saving his life.”
Onyx snorted happily, bowing his head to Hiccup.
“He likes you.” Viggo said.
“Most dragons do, but it’s taken him long enough to come around.” Hiccup responded. “Even after we freed him.”
Onyx bumped Hiccup with his head, then gave an apologetic whimper.
“Aww…it’s alright, boy.” Hiccup giggled then turned to Dagur. “Well if you’re electing Viggo as your adviser, I support you.”
Dagur hugged him. “Love you, bro.”
Hiccup smiled. “Love you too.”

Daggo “A Tale of Two Chiefs” Chapter 1:
Dagur had heard about what happened with Hiccup and Grimborn in the caves. But he didn’t, for one second, believe he was dead. Certainly not when no one had even found his body. The Berserker chief told his brother he was going out on a flight to relieve his troubled mind, and he was, but the only way to do that now was to find Viggo. Dagur knew, but would never admit aloud, he wasn’t as clever as Viggo, but Dagur was good at sneaking around. And during his time under Ryker’s command, he had over-heard discussion of Grimborn’s birth place and how it had always been a place of comfort for the man. So that’s where Dagur was heading. He’d been flying through the first light and now to last light. He was tired as was Sleuther, but he knew they were close and he wasn’t stopping now. He brought the triple stryke to a halt as he noticed and island down below, he told his dragon to head down seeing no sign of a trap. Dagur searched the island for what seemed like hours, until he found a cave leading underground. Torches lined the walls and lit the way downwards and Dagur was caught thinking “Of course Viggo had born in darkness.” He chuckled then headed down, Sleuther following close behind. Silently they moved ever forward through the dimly lit path, but came to sudden stop when they heard ragged breathing followed by a grunt of pain. “Viggo?” Dagur called out.
The voice coughed but then responded. “I knew someone would come looking for me eventually, but never once did I envision it would be you, Dagur.” He wheezed. “Do not linger in shade, come in.”
Dagur went into the cavern where the voice came from and was shocked at what he saw. Viggo laid on a rock bench carved and protruding from the wall, furnished of course, but rock nonetheless. His back toward Dagur exposing his remaining two arrows in his back. Dagur knew by this action alone he meant no disrespect, he couldn’t lay on his back so laid on his side. “You’re hurt.” Dagur whispered in pure shock.
Viggo sat up to look at Dagur, which took some effort, but he managed. “Look upon my face, Dagur. You know I have survived worse.”
Dagur nodded. “You are a strong man, if nothing else.” He heard growling from the corner. A skrill emerged from the shadows and stood defensively in front of Viggo.
Dagur recognized the skrill he had once tried to tame and knew that he now belonged to Viggo.
Sleuther growled back protectively, smacking his tails on the ground as a warning.
Dagur quieted him then proceeded to drop all his weapons, leaving him vulnerable. “I come in peace, dragon."
The skrill’s eyes narrowed and he growled again.
”I’m not here to hurt you…either of you. I swear it.“ Dagur said respectively.
”Onyx, let him speak. Away.“ Viggo said giving him a hand signal.
The skrill ruffled his wings but moved aside, watching wearily.
Dagur sighed in relief. ”You trained him?“
Viggo simply nodded.
”Cool name, Onyx.“ Dagur said with a smile.
”Thanks.“ Viggo responded. ”I’ve never named a pet, let alone a dragon before, but I thought it suited him well.“
Dagur was concerned about the arrows wounding Grimborn. He approached the man but hesitated. ”You are a worthy man and I wish to help you. But only if you will allow me. So I ask you, may I?“
Viggo was unsure, but eventually nodded after giving it some thought, exposing his back. ”Remember Dagur, attempt to kill me and Onyx will not hesitate to act first.“
Dagur looked at him. ”I already gave my word. I have no intention of hurting you further. We are in the same boat Viggo.“ He reached for his saddle bag with his healing supplies. He had brought some medical shears to help him remove the barbs. ”Viggo, the barbs will hurt more and possibly damage something important if I just yank it out. I need to cut some of the surrounding skin so I can pull them out without puncturing or tearing something vital.“
”Do what you must.“ Viggo said bracing himself.
Dagur worked quickly, precisely but gently removing the unnecessary skin, then removed the arrows slowly. ”Done with the removal, I just need to make sure it doesn’t get infected.“ He said.
”You don’t have to. As a matter of fact, I prefer you to not.“ Viggo said concerned.
”Viggo, you would die from the bacteria with the wounds you have. I won’t have your blood on my hands.“ Dagur said getting his herbal anti-bacterial paste and applied it to his back.
Viggo winced, it stung, then burned, and then melted into an icy coolness.
”One last thing. Just to make sure.“ Dagur said getting out some some surgical vines. He’d used them on himself before, so he knew as bizarre as it was they worked. He took out his needle and starting sewing up his wounds so he wouldn’t bleed. ”If you tell anyone I can sew, I swear to Thor.“
”It’s our secret, on my honor.“ Viggo said sitting up. He could move freely again without being in danger of hurting himself. He stood up, surprising himself at how effortless it was to do so. He noticed scraps of his clothing on the ground and assumed Dagur had had to cut his suit in order to heal his wounds. ”Well, I might as well change my shirt. I do hope you don’t mind.“
Dagur shook his head. ”No, it’s alright.“
Viggo nodded his head and went to a chest against the far wall, his valuables were obviously stored somewhere more secretive, but his necessities where there. He slowly took off his shirt, grabbed another and walked back to Dagur, intending to give him a reward for his work. ”Why did you help me?“
Dagur wasn’t listening, as a matter of fact he was drooling. He was shocked by the state of Viggo’s body, besides from the scar on his neck, he was untouched and ripped as all hell. He had abs, a six pack of them. He licked his lips at the muscles rippling all throughout his chest and arms. But Dagur tore his attention away from his lust when Viggo coughed to get his attention. ”Sorry, my mind drifted. But I told you. You and I are in the same situation. We both used to be on the wrong side of the war, we were both thought to be expendable by our employers. We both now see and own dragons as equals, we respect them. I was once where you stand now.“
”You’re not wrong, Dagur.“ Viggo said with a chuckle. ”but you were never expendable, my dear. You were just too much on an opponent. I excel at tactics and planning. But you…you’re excel at hand to hand combat. I’d have never been able to best you, and that had me concerned.“ Viggo smiled. ”Because, let’s face it, Dagur, you don’t listen to anyone. You’re your own man. Orders don’t suit you unless you’re giving them.“
Dagur laughed, knowing he was right. But then his eyes were torn to his neck scar. He touched his three talon scar tattoo that he had on his eye as his other hand reached for the scar on Viggo’s neck.
Viggo watched his hand but didn’t flinch away, he was like a wild dragon, but he was starting to trust Dagur like he had never trusted anyone before. He let Dagur touch his scar.
”How?“ Dagur asked. ”How did this happen to you?“
Viggo sighed, he hated this question. ”It’s why I became a dragon hunter. Nothing more than a reminder.“
Dagur moved his hand to caress Viggo’s face. ”Grimborn.“ He said sternly. ”Tell me.“
”It’s a long story.“ Viggo said trying to avoid discussing it, but saw Dagur wasn’t letting up. ”How much time have you to spare?“ He sighed, giving in.
”I’ve got all the time in the world Viggo.“ Dagur responded coolly.
”I was young when this happened,“ he said gesturing to his scar. ”a child. My only passion back then was learning more about dragons. My tribe was known for hunting them but I never was interested in destroying their species. I’ve always had a thirst for knowledge, but it was the dragon species that I could never seem to learn enough about. But one day, as fate would have it, my curiosity got the best of me, and I got too close to the wrong dragon. An angry and injured dragon that I had never seen before or since. And as I moved to help it, it scratched me, deeper than the scar that remains today, nearly killing me. My father killed it, got me to a healer, but later died from his own wounds. I never knew my mother or what happened to her, all I knew was with me out of commission, Ryker was left to rule the tribe.“
Dagur rolled his eyes. ”Bet that went well.“ He said sarcastically.
”Fantastic.“ Viggo replied with an equal amount of sarcasm. ”Nearly started three wars, and then his argument for why he should stay in charge was that he cleverly avoided three wars just because the other tribes didn’t think that immature child was worth their time.“
Dagur chuckled. ”The dragon, what was it?“
”My father called it the Deathwing.“ Viggo growled aggravated, putting his shirt on finally. ”But he made sure that the lens that revealed all the knowledge of it’s species was destroyed along with it. Declaring the dragon too dangerous to encounter before he passed.“
”I’m sorry for your loss, Viggo.“ Dagur replied quietly. ”Your father died for you.“
”More like because of me. If I had just let that dragon be, he’d still be alive.“ Viggo sighed, sitting down next to Dagur. ”I wish he were. Sometimes even I don’t know what to do.“
Dagur wiped a tear from his eye. ”My father died because of me as well.“
Viggo looked to Dagur in shock. ”Oh Dagur, you have my deepest condolences.“ His eyes narrowed. ”But that means you found him?“ He questioned curiously.
”Shipwrecked, fighting off Grim Gnashers from the dying dragons on Vanaheim. Shortly after I took over the Berserker tribe.“
”And how is that you’re fault?“ Viggo raised an eyebrow at him.
”I refused to let anyone search for him, those who defied me were executed.“
”I see. No wonder Krogan’s idiotic plan didn’t work.“
”Heather.“ Dagur growled lowly. ”He planned to trap her and possibly kill her in order to gain her lens. Promised her he found our father alive, said he’d take her to him.“
Viggo looked away awkwardly. ”I was against that plan from the start. But unfortunately Krogan and Johann are not good listeners, especially when reason and common sense are involved.“ He sighed. ”I heard news of a battle of the armies. I do hope your sister and the others are alright.“
”They’re-they’re fine.” Dagur said nervously. “No one was hurt on our end. but Johann is dead.“
”Oh really? How did he meet his demise?“ Viggo said smiling, he hated Johann.
”Frozen to death by the king of Dragon, then his statue was shattered and decimated by yours truly.“
”Krogan’s also dead.“
”No, he escaped.“ Dagur answered thinking Viggo was asking.
”Oh that wasn’t a question, Dagur. Someone left his body out to sea, it washed up on the shore a few days ago.“
”It wasn’t us.“ Dagur replied holding his hands up innocently.
”I didn’t think it was. I knew that the riders and even your berserkers wouldn’t have been the cause of what made him arrive in the state he did. He’d been put through torture while he was alive and died by decapitation. But he showed up even more ravished by beasts of the ocean who decided to sample him as a meal. It was pretty gruesome and I suspect it was his employer from the north. His men captured Krogan, took him back, and his punishment for failing was torture and then…death.“
”Wow. That guy sounds like bad news. I’ll have to tell Hiccup about him, as well as our allies.“ Dagur said on alert.
”Our?“ Viggo questioned.
Dagur smiled. ”Viggo, I know you were once a proud chief, and while I can’t give you that title back with most of them wiped out by Johann’s attack. I’d like you to be my adviser to the berserkers. Thor knows I need one.“ Dagur outstretched his hand.
Viggo eye’s widened. ”You’re serious? You want me to advise you? Me?“
Dagur nodded. ”I can think of no one better for the position.“
”Then…I accept.“ He took Dagur’s hand, but wound up hugging him. Dagur didn’t expect it, but hugged back.
”Thank you.“ Viggo said, pulling away.
”For what?“ Dagur asked.
”Giving me a second chance.“ Viggo smiled.
”No problem, we should head out.“ Dagur said, standing up.
”It’s late, Dagur, and it’s long ride back to Berserker island and I know you had a long day riding here. You’re welcome to stay here for the night and get some rest.“ Viggo said gesturing to a cot in the corner.
Dagur yawned and nodded, taking up on the offer. ”Thank you.“ He said yawning again, and quickly fell asleep.
Viggo smiled as he saw Sleuther curl up next to Onyx, and Onyx accepted him. He laid back down to sleep, dreaming of his position to come and how he could benefit the tribe.
@thederangedgrimborn Here it is, hope you love it!
Some of these are repeats, but I have this new-found love for making Viggo gifs. And I was really excited.
Please don’t judge me to harshly.
“They say there are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn’t true, the other is to refuse to believe what is.” - Viggo Grimborn
Can we just talk about how sexy that smirk is in the last gif?!
A scene I would wish for Httyd 3.
Hiccup mounts Toothless.
Astrid:”Where are you going?”
Hiccup: “Visit an old friend. He may have the info we need.”
Hiccup flies to a seculed island. There he met a man in a footlong cloak with his dragon, a Skrill.
Hiccup:”Its a long time till we last met.”
Viggo: “It is.”
Hiccup: “Viggo, I need some information. What do you know about the “hidden world?”
Viggo: “Oh. So you heard about it. Wait a moment.”
Wents to his hut who is hidden between rocks and bushes and returns with a parchment. It shows the map that we saw at the end of “Maces and Talons” on the wall in Viggos cabin.
Viggo: “Remember the dragon eye?”
Hiccup: “How should I not.”
Viggo: “Well, when I used the fightmare to open the emergency release, this was the first image the dragon eye showed. It was engraved in a build in lens, hidden by a filament that were burnt away when I held the dragon eye in the beam of the flight mare. It showed the origins of the dragons, called “The hidden world. Its the first secret dragon eye lens, that could had not been removed.
Hiccup: The origins of all dragons….where it is?”
Viggo: “The old legends say its not a common island like we know. I searched for it when I still was a dragon hunter-but I never found it. And you know, since I was heavy wounded by these arrows I cant go on strneous expeditions any more and accompany you and your friends. Maybe you have more luck.”
Hiccup takes the parchment, looking at it. “Thank you, old friend. You helped me a lot with this.” He had recognized the light fury in the middle of the circle.
Viggo smiles.
This would be a nice cameo of Viggo. Rmember, Drago and Valka had short cameos in the last episode of rtte too.
As for the NSFW sentence starters, what about number 46 and Vigcup 😏
You asked for it! You got it! Viggo’s dialogue was A+ in this I think. I don’t write him. He talks and I record.

Trapped with a Trapper: Chapter 9: Icy Plunge Art and Inspiration by: @snowprincess-artist Text by: Me Astrid soared high over Glacier Island upon Toothless, searching desperately to find The ravine. Having only arrived a few seconds ago, her and the other riders were already re-scouting the island in order to recover Hiccup from his icy prison and treating his injuries properly before they became infected or worse. No! She couldn’t think like this. Not now. This was Hiccup. Hiccup Haddock the Third. The boy who survived amputation, infection, a multitude of crashes and her when it was her time of the month. If he could survive all that, she was certain he’d still be alive. She hoped he’d still be there. Finally, she was able to find the ravine and set Toothless down into the snow before disengaging herself from the back of the dragon and peering over the edge. To her dread, she saw nothing. “Is he there?” Ruff panted as she ran from where Barf and Belch had set down. “No,” Astrid growled in anger, frustration and fear, “Toothless…. Come here.” Toothless cooed and creeped over. “Can you follow Hiccup’s scent?” She practically begged him, “We need to find him as quickly as possible.“n Astrid had barely finished the sentence before Toothless started sniffing about and perked up. He nudged her and then started sprinting along the edge of the ravine, trying to get her to follow. Astrid soon realized what he was doing and got the other riders to follow them in quick succession. “Please be okay, she begged as she ran faster to catch up with the black dragon, “Please, Hiccup. Be alive.” ——————— Ryker looked about the bare snow-laden land and frowned. His brother was out there somewhere. The brother who foolishly took the Dragon Eye with him. It wasn’t that he hated Viggo. Well, he did at times, but for the most part they got along fine. What he hated was that his brother dared to think he was such a genius could then just charge back into the fray of a conflict with the thing he’d just gained back, putting all their hard work retrieving the item at risk “Where did you say you lost ‘im, lads?” Ryker growled to two of the soldiers who had survived the Avalanche and had come back to him to tell him the news, “I don’t wanna waste any more time than I truly have to.” “He fell down the ravine,” the guard swallowed hard. “Which Ravine was it though?” He snarled back. “This island has a number of different ravines. Which one was it!?” As if to answer his question, Toothless suddenly ran past, about a hundred meters away, the other riders following in hot pursuit. Ryker followed them with his gaze and remembered that According to the guards, Hiccup and Viggo had fallen down the ravine together. “The riders!” He shouted. “Follow them. They will lead us straight to Viggo.” With that, Ryker and his men charged forth along the other edge of the ravine, determined to get to their leader first and take the riders for themselves. ——————— Hiccup and Viggo sat within the cave, still unsure about whether it was safe for them to get out of the cave or not. Following the attack of the Snow Wraith, both had become very cautious of the fact they weren’t alone in the ravine anymore. “Do you think it is safe now?” Hiccup looked at Viggo cautiously. “I think so,” Viggo stepped forth and looked about the different trees and the soil, finding nothing. “It seems it will be gone for a while.” “I wonder what it was so scared of,” Hiccup rubbed his chin, thinking about the Snow Wraith as it ran off to who knew where, “I mean, we didn’t pose any threat to it. None at all. It’s just so weird.” “As long as it is gone, I am happy. Viggo shrugged and want to checking his fingernails, “I do not want to become the Hunted.” “I’m just thinking.” Hiccup rubbed his head, “What could have scared something that strong and powerful.” Suddenly, a piercing shatter was heard and within the blink of an eye, the cave had filled to their chests with icy cold water. Both yelped in surprise and alarm as the water hit them and started panicking about to do. Desperate, Viggo pulled Hiccup up and dragged him along, diving through the water and landing into the slowly flooding grotto. “Where is this coming from?” hiccup asked, teeth chattering. Viggo looked up and found the source, “The Snow Wraith must have hit a week spot in the ice wall. Within a few minutes, this will all be submerged. Quick! We need to get out of here and into the ravine.” Without hesitation, Viggo through Hiccup over his shoulder and ran through the the hip-depth water, desperately trying to find the nook they had entered from. Finally, he found the gap and took a gasp of air before crouching and climbing through, the water spitting them out into the ravine. “Thank Thor, we’re safe.” Viggo coughed. However, a soon, a louder cracking brought both their focuses to the side of the ravine. It too was cracking, rather badly and water sprayed from the cracks, ready to give in at any moment. “You just had to jinx it, didn’t you,” Hiccup groaned seconds before the wall blew out and the icy water started flooding the ravine too, soon, both were being forced to tread water to stay afloat, something that Hiccup’s broken arm and leg could barely do, let alone maintain, “I can’t keep up too much longer, Viggo!” “Just keep up as long as you possibly can.” Viggo shouted back over the rushing water, “We have to keep it up!” ——————— As Astrid ran, she heard a rushing noise, looking down to the Ravine, she saw water rushing along it from the direction they were heading. At first she thought to stop, but with Toothless’ continued sprinting, she knew that Hiccup must instead be much further down. After a few more minutes, Toothless started to slow gradually, becoming far easier to keep up with. Realizing he must have finally found Hiccup, she sped up, using even more energy to get to him “So Close…” Astrid gasped as Toothless finally stopped ——————– “Must be there!” Ryker shouted as Toothless stalled and ran, the same distance as Astrid ——————— Hiccup gasped as the water sloshed about, unable to keep himself above the surface any longer. His broken limbs groaned a pin agony and with a final gasp, he was sucked under “Hiccup!” Viggo gasped and dove after the frail teen. Just managing to grip the boy, he attempted to kick back up, but the additional weight took its toll. As it seemed both their fates were sealed. Hiccup’s body had already gone limp, and Viggo could hardly hold on or try to kick them to the surface. The water was so cold. He could feel his skin going numb. And as they sank a little further and the light above began to disappear, Viggo gave a small cry as his lungs began to burn. The numbness was almost calming, the deeper they sank. It was silent, and still, as if the spirit of the ice itself whispered to them that they could fall asleep. Viggo still held Hiccup close and tried one last time to reach for the light. Slowly, his life flashed straight before his eyes. This youth, the years studying the dragons, the day he wanted to free the, the night he lost his father, the night he lost his innocence. It was all so vivid. So shockingly clear in his mind. Something about it even soothed him and calmed his nerves, as if death were to finally claim him and the boy. Suddenly a loud PLOP resounded through the water and Viggo turned to see a rope. Rope! Wasting no time, he dragged the boy to it and gripped on as tight as his frozen fingers would let him and suddenly, they were hoisted from their watery tomb. Both gasped, for their first time, relieved to feel the icy winds about them. “Viggo?” Hiccup coughed as the last of the water left his lungs and he gripped onto him, “What just happened?” “We’re saved!” Viggo chuckled and held the boy closer, relief filling both of them as they were hoisted to safety. “Thank you for coming back for me,” Hiccup shivered and sighed in relief. “A deal is a deal, Haddock,” Viggo grinned as they neared the lip of the canyon, both not really caring about anything except for the fact that they had been saved. ——————— End of Chapter 9
Trapped with a Trapper: Chapter 6: The Wolves Art and Inspiration by: @snowprincess-artist Text by: Me
The next day, Hiccup and Viggo woke, still somewhat chilly, but otherwise unharmed, as the sun came down upon them from the crack in the glacier, they rubbed their chilled skin and using the dragon eye with its warming mechanism, were soon comfortable enough to start moving. Viggo made sure Hiccup’s sling was once again tight and then hauled the teen, bridal style and started to continue their exploration further down the ravine. “We should be pretty close to water if their is any,” Hiccup remarked. “And how do you suppose that, Haddock?” Viggo raised a brow, keen to hear the boys explanation, “There is nothing to prove it is anywhere close or that it even exists in the first place. For all we know, this walking is a fruitless endeavour.” “The chicken!” Hiccup exclaimed, matter-of-factly, “That chicken wouldn’t have been able to survive down here without a water source. Furthermore, it couldn’t have survived last night or the night before, so it must have a shelter that it wondered from not too far away. Therefore, we should be closing in soon on the water source.” “Impressive, Hiccup,” Viggo grinned, “You know, I don’t think I give you enough credit. For your age, you are incredibly smart. Not as smart as me, but smart nonetheless.” “Gee, thanks,” Hiccup replied in a a monotone voice as he rolled his eyes, sarcastic as ever, “That’s the nicest compliment I’ve gotten from one of my enemies.” “Oh, shut up,” Viggo chuckled, “Next time, I’ll just remind you of one of yo….” Viggo was cut off by a fierce growling. Turning, they saw a pack of about seven wolves, hungry, untamed and bloodthirsty. The wolves approached slowly and both gulped in fear and apprehension. “What lured them here?” Hiccup whispered, trying to hide his terror behind whispering, playing it off as if he simply didn’t want to attract anything more so than they already had, “The chicken?” “Possibly,” Viggo watched and backed up, “But would they send a pack for just one bird?” As if lightning, the wolves charged, knocking Viggo down and dragging Hiccup off. He yelped in pain as he was dragged from the trappers hands, broken arm and leg being the first parts on his body to hit the ground. Snarling, the wolves bit at him causing deep bites and claw marks. Trying to fight back, Hiccup was able to backhand a wolf away with a considerable amount of force, but immediately regretted it as he was slashed across the forehead and pounced upon him once again. Wounded further and unable to fight them off, Hiccup almost resigned himself to the fate of being their next meal when he suddenly heard a furious scream. Looking up, he saw Viggo throw one of the massive dogs down the ravine as others bit, clawed and snarled at him. As he sat up, Hiccup could only watch as the pack overwhelmed the trapper, hearing his screams of pain as the Dragon Eye rolled from the fierce frenzy. Unsure of what to do, Hiccup pulled himself over and grabbed the Eye with his unslung, but now bitten left arm, looking over as Viggo still struggled with the beasts. His mind told him to run and in all sense of the matter, he really should have, but Hiccup knew he was better than that. Unable to stand terribly well, he looked about, finding a chunk of wood. He took it and using the eye, magnified the sun onto the wood, soon, it started to smoke and sure enough, it burst to flames. Picking it up, he stood and limped as fast as he could, jumping overtop Viggo and swinging the torch about. “BACK!” He warned, “BACK, YOU MANGEY BEASTS!” The wolves whined at this, terrified of the scrawnier human’s sudden protectiveness over his fellow man and on instinct, ran down the ravine without another bark. Turning to Viggo, Hiccup’s leg slowly gave out and he landed back next to Viggo. It was obvious the wolves had gotten him good, blood dripped from his side and hiccup knew how painful it must have been.
“Do you think it’s lethal?” Hiccup questioned Viggo, actual concern in his voice. The gash on Viggo’s side looked rather harsh, but he was unsure. “I’ve survived worse,” Viggo grunted. He stood up quickly, but once again grunted, clutching the wound and collapsed. Hiccup, uncaring of his own wounds, moved Viggo’s hands to asses then damage fully. It seemed like it could be cleaned, so he quickly pressed a cloth over it. He then washed it with some water and wrapped up Viggo’s stomach super tightly before dragging him over to a small nook in the ravine wall and examining the wounds further. “You should worry about yourself, Haddock,” Viggo growled as Hiccup washed and wrapped a bite on his forearm. “Not gonna happen.” Hiccup replied, doing his best with his one hand before sitting back and admiring his handiwork, “That should hold up until we get off this ice slab.” “Why would you do this for me?” Viggo questioned. “Why not just take the Eye and run. You would have probably gotten to safety and your friends would have found you alive. Why save my life?” “Because you did the same for me when we fell down here,” Hiccup smiled slightly, “No matter what, you still helped me. It was the least I can do. And we made a truce and Bet. I expect that you LIVE up them.” Viggo could only smile at the teen. Sure, he could be annoying at times, but he was definitely smart. The smartest adversary he’d ever met. Able to challenge his own intelligence, though he was foolhardy. But what made Viggo smile was his respect. How he was able to except them working together and even come to an almost mutual understanding of one another. He was an honourable adversary indeed. “Here,” Viggo pulled him closer and sat Hiccup beside him, “Let’s mend those fresh ones up, okay?” Hiccup nodded and Viggo slowly went to work. ——————— End of Chapter 6
Trapped with a Trapper: Chapter 3: I feel like an Idiot Art and Inspiration by: @snowprincess-artist Text by: Me
Hiccup woke to the scent of ash in the morning and opened his eyes to see they were still trapped within the ravine. Viggo was packing the last of their items and soon walked over to him. “Morning,” he greeted in his surprisingly soft tone, “You feeling any better?” “A bit,” Hiccup replied, “I think it’s time we get moving. We have very little time to waste.” Viggo acknowledged this and packed up the last few things from their camp. While he did this, Hiccup, ever the one to push himself when he shouldn’t, gave his best attempt to stand up. Using the wall, he was able to shimmy his way up it until he was stood shakily upon both feet. Happy at his achievement, he held his right arm to his gut and went to take his first step. However, the second it touched the ground, it was as if he were standing in lava. Gravity worked against him and he stumbled as he cried in pain and collapsed to the ground. By the luck of Odin himself, however, Hiccup’s right shoulder pad collided with the stone floor, saving him from further injury. Hiccup groaned in pain and frustration and sat up, meeting eyes with Viggo, who’d just finished packing. “Well, looks like we won’t be moving,” Hiccup sighed as he sat back up. My broken leg still can’t hold me up. Useless.“ “Well,” Viggo grimaced at the thought he had in mind, “There is one other way to get you there, but I doubt you will like it.” “Hey,” Hiccup looked Viggo square in the eyes, “If it gets us to the Glacier Water. I won’t argue with it. ——————— “I still feel like an idiot!” It was embarrassing for Hiccup to limp around, and even more so when he needed to wrap his hand over someone’s shoulder, but this, by far was the most ridiculous and embarrassing thing that had ever happened to him. He was being carried by Viggo, bridal style as they made their way along the icy cold rock floor of the ravine in their search. “Oh, shut up already,” Viggo groaned, his temper wearing thin, “You’ve been voicing your displeasure since I picked you up hours ago. We get it.” Hiccup huffed and leaned his head against Viggo’s shoulder pad. It was somewhat uncomfortably due to the spikes, but his neck was aching from craning it up at an angle and he needed a way to rest it normally. “Viggo?” Hiccup asked, trying to make some small talk, “Do you have any hobbies. I mean, surely hunting dragons isn’t the only thing you truly like.” “You know what, Hiccup,” Viggo replied, “There is something I immensely enjoy in life. I’m not sure you know what it is though. It’s apparently a foreign custom to you and many Vikings. "What is that?” Hiccup questioned, perhaps a bit too eagerly. “It’s called shutting up when you’re told to,” Viggo replied in a monotone voice, “see if you can try it.” Hiccup growled as Viggo chuckled, bemused at the teens sudden change in demeanour. “I’ll have you know I can shut up when asked to,” Hiccup retorted. “You really can’t keep your mouth shut, can you?” Viggo grinned. “How dare you?” Hiccup frowned, “I can shut up whenever I want to.” “Oh, is that so?” Viggo chuckled. “Prove it! "I will,” he crossed his arms, “The utter nerve of you trappers. Saying I’m incapable of shutting my mouth. I’ll have you know were we on Berk I could have you arrested for that. Worse, my father could execute you for crimes against dragons, and another thing…. "Oh, do you ever shut your trap?” Viggo groaned. Hiccup was about ready to retort when he finally realized what Viggo meant. He was still waffling on. He blushed in embarrassment, but decided he should not lose face and thought of another way to reply. “You know, Viggo, I… "Shut up.” Viggo replied. “Would you stop telling me to Sh…” Hiccup started but was cut off. “No! Quiet!” Viggo said sternly, “Listen.” As Hiccup strained his ears, he noticed the silent rhythmic thudding coming from the direction they were heading. It sounded as if it were giant footsteps and he swore he felt tremors, though that could have been Viggo simply shivering. “What could it be?” Hiccup questioned. “Snow Wraith?” “No,” Viggo looked at Hiccup, “The Snow Wraiths have migrated for the year.” Suddenly, an awful scream echoed through out the ravine and around the bend, the silhouette of something gigantic appeared against the wall. “Run!” Hiccup shouted and without second thought, Viggo bolted back in the direction they came. Hiccup saw the silhouette turn to them and swore as Viggo made it into a crack in the wall of the ravine. Both panted and tried to catch their breath as the thing started to get closer. Fear gripped them as the sounds of claws scratching ice came along. “Oh Thor,” Hiccup gasped, “I can’t believe I’m gonna die and I’m stuck with you!” “Same here,” Viggo panted as they saw the shadow. Suddenly, a mass jumped into view and both screamed. However, the sensation of ripping flesh and snapping bones never came. Opening their eyes, they came face to face with a brown feathered chicken, which cocked its head at them in interest. “Oh,” Hiccup sighed, “It’s just a chicken.” “A chicken,” Viggo rubbed his head and chuckled before his stomach growled, “You don’t mind, do you, Hiccup?” “Just try not to make too much of a mess,” Hiccup handed Viggo an arrow. ——————– Later, the chicken was baking over a small fire as the two enemies chatted. Following their small scare, they’d decided to set up camp for the evening, choosing to enjoy the chicken instead of the now common tasting jerky. As they sat and watched, they talked, occasionally turning the chicken over the flames as the sun lowered itself into the horizon. By early evening, the chicken was finished and the two relaxed, watching the light above them slowly dissipate. ——————— End of Chapter 3
Trapped with a Trapper: Chapter 2: Broken Bones and Bizarreness Art and Inspiration by: @snowprincess-artist Text by: Me
Soon, noon turned to dusk and the ravine took a darker yet rather admirable shade, the dark icy walls being lit by the setting sun and gaining from it, an almost illuminated look. Despite its beauty, it did little to sweeten the interactions of its two prisoners. Hiccup was still sat in the place he’d landed, cradling his now confirmed broken arm while Viggo had disappeared an hour ago, promising to return once he had gotten what he needed.
As the time passed, Hiccup got more worried. It wasn’t that he cared for Viggo. In fact, he’d pay to watch someone feed him to dragons if he had the chance, but the fact they had made a truce and he’d disappear didn’t settle him. And as much as he hated to admit it, Viggo was right. If either of them wanted to survive, they’d need to work together.
Soon, Viggo returned, carrying what appeared to be several old logs. Hiccup was rather intrigued by this and watched surprised as the wood was placed down and left to Viggo’s side while he dusted snow off his pants.
“How did you get that?” Hiccup questioned as Viggo finished dusting himself off, “This island is a barren wasteland.”
“Not always,” Viggo replied, looking up at the opening of the ravine, “I’ve been to this island many a time, throughout different seasons and while the top is almost always snowy, these crevices and ravines become almost tropical in the summer time. Come winter, there’s plenty of fallen logs and dead trees to loot wood from. Perfect for starting a fire.”
“I don’t see why we couldn’t just use my arrows,” Hiccup shrugged as Viggo dragged him to a small alcove near to them, “That way, you wouldn’t have had to go looking for wood.”
“While your point is commendable,” Viggo replied as he rested Hiccup so he was sat against the wall of the ravine, “It does nothing to help you. You are the one whose leg and arm are broken and if you take a look at my pile, none of it is close to being straight enough for splints.”
At this, Viggo knelt and grabbed Hiccup’s hand, pulling it to him. Hiccup flinched, expecting Viggo to cause him more bodily harm, but opened to find the man wrapping his forearm in a tight layer of bandages, starting from his elbow and working his way to his wrist, tucking it back through a few strands of the bandage. He then reached to the arrows within the quiver, pulling out two and snapping the sharpened heads off before taking the arm again.
“This might sting a bit,” Viggo forewarned Hiccup before finding the fracture and straightening the bone, aligning the two sections. Hiccup grunted as he set the whole thing back in place, refusing to scream and make himself look any weaker than he already was.
Soon, Viggo was satisfied with the positioning of the bone and took the headless arrows, pressing one to either side of the bone, strapping them to the arm with some rope. Finally, he moved the hand to rest on Hiccup’s stomach and turned his attention to Hiccup’s leg, setting it.
As Hiccup watched Viggo slowly splinting and wrapping his leg, he was still rather taken aback by the hunters surprisingly delicate touch. Not wanting to say anything, he just continued to watch as his leg was wrapped. After a few minutes, however, the silence became unbearable and he decided to speak.
“How are you so delicate with this?” He questioned.
“When one traps dragons for a living, they get used to bandaging wounds,” Viggo shrugged as he replied. “It’s kind of second nature to me.”
“Cool,” Hiccup rubbed his right elbow, finding it sounded as though he were complementing the trapper. Trying to think of something to take his mind off of it, he thought of a question to ask, “Do you think we will be able to hold out until my friends get back?”
“The odds are stacked against us,” Viggo admitted, “But something tells me, if we work together, we should be able to pull through this predicament.”
Soon, the sun had sunk to the horizon descended upon the cave. By this time however, Viggo had managed to successfully light the fire, giving them some warmth and comfort from the bitter cold. As Hiccup looked over, to Viggo, who was digging in his satchel for something, he noticed him set the Dragon Eye on the ground.
“You know that’s useless without a key, right?” Hiccup looked at the Eye, so close to him, yet so impossible to retrieve.
“Oh, dear Hiccup,” Viggo chuckled, “You still don’t realize.”
Without another word, Viggo held the Eye to the fire, revealing the new map to his younger challenger.
“But how?” Hiccup looked at him before realization hit him, “The Flightmare… That’s why you needed it. To remove some type of Failsafe from the Eye. I’m such an idiot!”
“Well, I wouldn’t say idiot,” Viggo replied as he sat, laying the Dragon Eye back down and continued digging through the bag.
Hiccup heard nothing as he closed his eyes. Viggo now had full access to all the Eye’s secrets. If he had just left it at the Edge, he would never have gotten his hands on it and the information within would still be safe.
“Here.”
Hiccup opened his eyes at the sudden authoritative tone and looked over to see Viggo’s hand thrust in his face, holding something in offering to him.
“Don’t worry,” he insisted, “It’s just some jerky.”
“No,” Hiccup eyed the man cautiously, “For all I know it’s poisoned. We’re still enemies after all.”
“Hiccup,” Viggo sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose, “If I really wanted you dead, I would have slit your throat while you were paralyzed by the Flightmare, or I would never have offered a truce. Besides, what good would you be if you were dead? You’re by far, my most cunning adversary to date. Why kill you now, when there’s still plenty of ways to see how our interactions could turn out.
"I guess,” Hiccup sighed and took the jerky, quietly nibbling on it.
Once they were finished their small morsels, the two discussed what they would need to do.
“The problem we currently face is water,” Hiccup explained, “Gothi, our Healer, once came to this island in search of Glacial Water, which apparently bares healing properties. Perhaps if we can explore a bit, we can get water, and with luck, it might help us heal faster. Either way, we will be scraping it close if we stay. I have two flasks, but nothing more. And I am assuming you don’t have any.”
“Sadly, you are right,” Viggo remarked. “Tomorrow morning, we should head out in search of it. We have nothing here to help us… But in order to do that, we need some rest. Get some sleep.”
Hiccup didn’t protest and gently laid on his back to avoid moving his injured arm anymore. As he looked up, he saw the stars twinkling through the opening of the ravine and wondered to himself if his friends were alright. Looking over, he saw Viggo lay himself out along the other side of the fire.
“Hey… Viggo?” Hiccup called, unsure of why he was doing this.
“Yes?” Viggo replied.
“I just wanted to thank you,” he stuttered a bit, the words feeling alien, but truthful, “For wrapping my injuries, I mean. Not being some murderous, raving lunatic trapper.”
“Appreciated,” Viggo chuckled at the sarcasm, “Now get some sleep.”
Within minutes, soft snoring took over the small camp within the ravine. ——————— End of Chapter 2
