magicianâs rage
the destiny of a great kingdom rests on the shoulders of a young boy
merlin looking shocked she noticed, as if he hadn't been hanging about with a sour face and acting like a little bitch the entire time she was there
i have SO many feelings about freya for a character who had maybe twenty total minutes of screentime. like. her life was so tragic youâd be forgiven for thinking sheâd been subsumed by the trauma, but little pieces of a fully lived life and personality peaked throughâshe had such a poetic grasp of language as she described her home to merlin. she liked strawberries. the way she lightly teased merlin for conjuring a rose instead of a strawberry, only to be touched because she likes pretty things but has so little occasion for them, doesnât feel she deserves them. the unapologetic way she (understandably!!!! who wouldnât in her situation!) wolfs down her food. âitâs good.â her insistence that merlin be careful, being willing to leave without him because she didnât want him to give up what he had. literally beloved.
thinking about how kara & mordred are literally a mirror of merlin & freya and it makes me SICK
like merlin hid freya because camelot would kill her for magic. mordred hid kara for the exact same reason.
but the difference??? merlin was the boy defying the system for someone he loved. and then years later he becomes the man who upholds that same system when itâs mordred asking for mercy.
freya was hunted, terrified, already broken by the world. kara was angry, radicalized, done begging for kindness from people who never gave it. and merlin looks at kara and sees a threat but once upon a time, people looked at freya and saw the same thing.
mordred begging for karaâs life vs merlin trying to save freya⊠itâs the SAME scene, just flipped. except this time, merlin is standing on the other side.
and thatâs what ruins me.
because merlin doesnât realize heâs become part of the thing that took freya from him.
merlin should have understood. he should have seen himself in mordred. but instead he draws a line and mordred ends up on the wrong side of it.

shakespeare was so funny for that scene where the antagonist tells the protagonist âlet the record show that i AM into women THAT BEING SAID holy shit, thou mars, seeing you here is like an even better version of my wedding night. like WAY better. iâve been dreaming about you every night for years, and in my dreams we take off each otherâs armor and beat each other to a pulp and i wake up all hot and sticky đâ

Iâm thinking about the freya episode in bbc merlin and Iâm just a bit like⊠merlin was ready to leave camelot, to accept all of freya, to face death and lie for her sake. and yes they didnât know each other for long. but merlin was fully ready to seriously harm or even kill arthur for freyaâs sake. infatuation, love, projection, pityâ either way, he cared for her, to one extent or another. and what pisses me off is that arthur is like âaw merls is sad :( let me ruffle his feathers a little!â as if this man didnât just kill merlinâs probable first love. and what annoys me even more is that arthurâs move works. itâs as if freya was suddenly just a childish project gone bad, a pet fish that passed away, and not an entire human being that merlin had evidently cared for. not a girl who was scared of her own humanity or lackthereof which was something merlin certainly related to, not someone merlin visualised a future with. the fact that she was killed by arthur, and then merlin turns around like âaww artie youâre forgiven :>â annoys me so so badly I canât even. I donât CARE that arthur was doing his duty, merlin was never mad enough.
Getting plowed is for the country folk. Here in the city we call it being taken to pound town. And if it's a place with decent public transit, getting railed.
