Chanyeol’s company isn’t very big, which means that he knows all of his employees by name and doesn’t hire new people very frequently. When he does he tries to be as careful as possible about it; he quite likes the atmosphere, and doesn’t want to give a job to anyone who’s going to tear that down. But at the same time, at his heart of hearts, he’s softer than most people would assume.
Especially towards people he can sympathize with.
Of course he can’t hire anyone just out of pity, and that’s not the case with the new boy either. He will have a real job to take care of, intern or not- but indeed, after learning about his condition Chanyeol was slightly more biased to hire him under him.
Finally someone who could communicate with him in his native tongue in his own darn company.
Chanyeol is out meeting a client when the boy is supposed to come in, so he misses the first few hours of his day and when he makes it back it’s already lunch time. But Chanyeol is curious, and can’t even attempt to hide that, making his way towards the corner of the office where the internet should be hiding, somewhere. Doing… something. Chanyeol isn’t quite certain what he might have been made to do on his first day; maybe just memorize some core information about the company? Maybe? It’s been a while since he last initiated anybody. He knows he gives off quite the capable boss vibe, with his slacks, button down and dress shoes, but he also hopes that his rolled up sleeves and a friendly smile will help soften some of his edges. He doesn’t want to intimidate the kid- that’s just not the kind of boss that he is.
He raps on the door with his knuckles, fully aware that the boy does have decent hearing, to draw attention to himself, and only then does he sign his greeting. ‘How’s it going?’
A soft groan slips out from between his lips as he averts his gaze to the window, attention captured momentarily by the bird upon its sill. It was a welcomed distraction, a very timely one indeed for one could be certain that he almost misses the freedom he so enthusiastically signed away when he applied for this internship. Regret was still a stranger in these parts, but dread it seems, has become an inevitable acquaintance. T’was not the difficultly of the tasks entrusted to him that extinguished his vigour, but the way they seemed to spill over his desk and carry on forever. It’s been three hours, three long and excruciating hours of sorting and keying in data and the end is somehow still nowhere in sight. Carding aching fingers through his hair, the boy takes to rolling his shoulders in an attempt to drive the fatigue away. Just one more hour, he catches himself chanting, eyes watching the second hand drag itself lazily around the clock. One more hour till a break.
The boy’s just about to dive right back into his mammoth of a task when a series of knocks upon his door demanded his full attention. Eyes wide, Taehyung’s evidently flustered when he registers the identity of his visitor. Rising from his chair at record speed, the boy offered a quick bow before greeting the man with a sign he hoped would be adequate.
“ Sir. It’s definitely different from what I had expected— in the best way of course. I hadn’t expected to be given such a big task on my first day, but it’s been great so far— I know the state of my desk is not exactly the best testimony, but I’d like to think that I’m coping well. ” Reply delivered, Taehyung finds himself mirroring his superior’s smile, albeit a little sheepishly as he realised just how much he’d rambled. His boss did not seem to be the type to mind, but until he was merited with a response, the boy could only hope that his observations would hold true.
“ Is there something else that you’d like me to do? ”
