The Hanged Man (XII)

I really love the symbolism in Tarot, and to me, The Hanged Man perfectly reflects Hange’s character.

This card represents rethinking, inner enlightenment, voluntary sacrifice, and a different perspective on reality.

In the card, the Hanged Man is depicted as a person hanging upside down, with a peaceful expression on their face. He is not forced into this position — he has chosen it willingly in order to see the world differently, to perceive the truths hidden from ordinary sight. Similarly, Hange studies Titans not from a place of fear or hatred, but with genuine scientific curiosity and compassion. Her approach to the world is "inverted" compared to most others — she seeks to understand, not simply to destroy. This attitude is evident both in her interactions with the Titans and with the outside world. In the traditional depiction of the card, the figure hangs by their right leg, symbolizing a renunciation of the rational, logical path in favor of intuition and spiritual insight.

However, this interpretation doesn't quite fit Hange. That's why I changed the leg to the left leg instead: her path is not a rejection of reason — rather, she sacrifices her emotions and personal feelings for the sake of a higher purpose and duty.
