Interest in greek mythology rises anew with the new number of retellings and adaptions...and misconceptions all around...
Claims like "that never happened" or "that's the roman version" are around a lot...but even if you wanted to learn more, where would you even start looking? Where do you begin your research for your next fic, or next discussion? Well...That's for you!
Here's a list of source names, links to access them, maps, family trees & more
Where to access the texts:
ToposText
Database, interlinks all names and places, has almost all sources translated, can find all name mentions of place or character in the sources, has a map with the places
Perseus Collection Greek and Roman Materials (and Scaife Viewer)
Digital Library, nearly all main greek and roman sources, including OG language text and dictionary for those languages (is instable at times, try coming back a few hours/days later and it should be up again)
Theoi Greek Mythology
Database, has summary posts for individual heroes, creatures, gods and events, as well as many translations, has a search function
Most of these places have older translations for the epics, poems and hymns (with older language), places like Poetry In Translation and https://www.gutenberg.org often have newer translations available for free, thoughā¦with a bit of digging most translations even recent ones can be found online :)
Comparing several translations is also good if you want to make any arguments about what a text says without being able to read the text in the original language, does the text really say that or is it just this translation?
It also doesn't hurt to research a little about the author of a work as well to get context for which time and sociopolitical and personal situation they were writing in (it helps to do a quick search into the history of ancient greece too, i.e. epic writers writing during the 7th century BC had different agendas than playwrights of the 5th century during the persian wars, athenians during the conflicts with sparta, or later hellenistic writers after Alexander the Great)
Wikipedia: CAN be used, it's a good starting point, but check the sources cited as much as you can, rather than believing what the page itself says

I wish I could offer even more sources via academic books and papers but I fear this would exceed my abilities considering the vastness of the topic of Greek Mythology! But this is a starting point :D Have fun!Ā
Google Scholar has a lot of secondary sources (scholia commentary & theories), books about history, society, politics, flora & fauna, religion, culture, etc. of the time both of history and mythical historyā¦if you have a friend in academia with university access (if you donāt have it yourself) you can ask them to check if they have access to the papers/books otherwise hidden behind insane paywalls, because a LOT of them are available as pdfs!
I also wish I had more visual/audio sources but this is smth I cant change :") I'm sure there's some good videos on youtube out there...somewhere x)
Feel free to contact me if you have more sources you want to add or any links don't work
Here is the Post as DOCs to share outside of tumblr

(i will modify this post if i have other or maybe i will write a new one)
It would be in Canon o in highschool au where atsushi find out this club that play D&D and he start a campaign with this group, where there is Dazai and their d&D character maybe fell in love or other thing!
When we imagine someone who is protective, mostly it is a person who bursts into a fit of rage or someone who heroically and willingly throws away their own life if it means to protect others. A good example for this would be Kunikidaās actions on several occasions. Dazai is less a person to obviously show rage or to heroically throw himself in front of someone.
Which doesnāt mean that he doesnāt care at all, itās quite the contrary. And itās sometimes very subtle and tricky, because he always has plans within plans and tries to achieve several goals with a single plan.
.
I will only focus here on Dazaiās actions that solely have to do with Atsushi. Iām not going to bring up every single hidden agenda or goal Dazai is also trying to achieve.
In addition, this post has been tagged as #Dazatsu just to be safe. But of course it can be read from a platonic POV.
.
Beware: Spoilers starting from chapter 83 and for 55 Minutes!
the first ending of bsd pretty much sums up their relationship for me.Ā āi call out a name: your name, just as you once called out mine.ā
dazai spends his entire life struggling just to find a place in the world. the first place he found was within odasaku, who inspired him to continue living, to try to be and make good in this world, because even if dazai couldnāt be happy at all, it was a better environment than hurting others. and dazai took that and ran with it. he left the mafia. he tried to change. to save people.
then he meets atsushi. and you know, catsume probably requested dazai take atsushi under his wing⦠or at the very least, like⦠tipped him off that atsushi existed. but thatās exactly what dazai did. he opened his arms to this pure-hearted kid, who turns out to be really reminiscent of odasaku.
and the change atsushi brings to dazaiās life is visible. seriously. dazai softens. he finds himself in a teacher/mentor position, where he teaches himself a lot about the world in the process. about how life really is precious. about how, even he ā a suicide candidate from square one ā has a chance at it.
and atsushi affects more than dazai. heās righting where dazai had went wrong with akutagawa⦠heās turning him away from violence⦠heās leading him to a kinder place⦠and we know dazaiās pushing them together, and watching their progress, wanting them to team up as professional partnersā¦
but basically. dazai saved atsushi, and in turn, atsushi is slowly saving him from himself. dazaiās relationship with atsushi in canon is probably the healthiest relationship heās ever hadā whether youāre viewing it as professional, as mentor/mentee, as romantic, as friends, as whatever. atsushi is good for dazai. and despite how evil and disgusting dazai can be, i think around someone like atsushi, dazai can learn how to be good for him, too.
Link14 vrains week day 1 (really a long name XD): favourite headcanon.
i really have a lot of headcanon in my mind, but there is this one that i think that it is really cool.
If the windy kid is alive (i still hope for him to be active in the future of the series t^t), i thought that his name will be Kaze.
Kaze in japanese is meaning āwindā and it will be really cool to think that he have the same name as his ignis āwindyā.
