your babygirl mizu is here
(sometimes I just have to stare at a jpeg of mizu, for emotional regulation)
im ngl bros, if robert was uncomfortable by invisigal's sex jokes, im 97% sure he wouldn't respond to her wet dream by asking if he was wearing a condom or if his dick was big or ask how he did 💀
or say that he "could do this all day" after visi asked him if he jerks off in his mech suit.
or say he loves donuts from his mouth to his butt after she made a sex joke
oh but sure he was totally uncomfortable, whatever u say gng 🥀
also, that 97% sure thing was satire. ik the haters have a hard time understanding contexts so... yeah
I will never forget panicking during my first playthrough and killing Shroud. Regretted it immediately.
I choose my following dialogue options accordingly and, lo and behold, my Robert goes on to tell Blazer, HIS BOSS, that strangling his nemesis to death "felt a bit like masturbating" my jaw was ON THE FLOOR 😭
Invisigal's sex jokes are a walk in the fucking park compared to what Robert can spew out let's be so fr
the wolf of the mountain
I'm sorry but one of the most important scenes in Dispatch is Invisigal's wet dream. I'm not even joking. I love that it was much less about Robert (whom we barely see in that scene anyway) and more about the state of Courtney's psyche at this point in the story, about her actively repressing her own desire for acceptance and belonging the minute she actually got it for the first time in... ever, probably? So you finish episode 3 thinking: aw, she got over that hurdle, she got her confidence back, yay, things are going to be so much easier from here, she's on a straight-fucking-forward path to success. Tick, done, I'm the best dispatcher/mentor ever.
And then, episode 4 blows up in your face with a big fat: no. We've established the woman has problems, we meant it. Yes, she's earned validation, but she's still in complete denial over the deeply transformative effect this is having on her, because it makes her vulnerable and she hates it. So she will turn to what she knows best: repressing the good it made her feel and self-sabotage to re-establish the familiar status quo of being a no good lowlife, where she feels miserable but safe.
But then all these good feels that are so seismic to her have to go somewhere, have to be expressed somehow, so: hello, sex dream! And now, miss ma'am Courtney is confused on top of everything else, twice as vulnerable, twice as likely to act out - and she does.
I mean it's hilarious because it's so fucking real.
And I was so excited to finally get to grapple with a girl loser character who's dripping with this unholy mixture of insecurity-turned-sexual-desire and absolute negative rizz. It's such a rare portrayal to get for female characters - especially the sexual aspect of it, which in Visi's case felt relatable and mature because it's complicated and coloured by all the other problems she's got going on. Robert is almost irrelevant in this - whether or not you pursue a romance with Visi, it's her internal event, and she has to deal with its deeper meaning one way or another. I just love it, and I want more of it.
breq playing that stringed instrument at strigan's!! picturing it as something alike to the himalayan dramyin. (not pictured: seivarden half dead in the bg)
“A wooden box sat on a table in a corner, a long oval with a carved, pierced lid and three strings stretched tight across. The wood was pale gold, with a waving, curling grain. The holes cut in the flat top were as uneven and intricate as the grain of the wood. It was a beautiful thing. I plucked a string and it rang softly.”

PR nightmare extraordinaire
I may have said this before but I love how Dispatch puts so much effort into showing that hero work – and by extension becoming a hero when you used to be a villain – is inherently burdensome. It hurts, it is intimidating, and it's hard. The easier choice, every time, is to do the wrong thing. It's easier for Robert to yell at Invisigal and cut her than it is to defend her. It's easier for Coupé or Sonar to go to Shroud than it is for them to be independent heros. It's easier for Invisigal to run away than it is for her to stay. It's easier for Flambae to attack Robert than it is for him to accept the information. It'd have been easier for Chase to let Invisigal die than for him to save her.
And at every point, the right choice is the costly one. Chase saves Visi on pain of his own life. Flambae separates himself and acknowledges that he'll need time to get used to the information. Coupé and Sonar both want to come back to the team after they've struggled. Robert succeeds as a mentor by defending Invisigal.
Dispatch yells at the audience that being good is costly, but no matter the cost, it's still the right thing to do.
I love that Invisigal just. Wants. She wants love, she wants acceptance, she wants to feel good about herself, to feel desired and have what she desires. Yet she feels so ashamed about wanting anything, especially actual intimate emotional connection and the unfettered aid of other people
Visi from Dispatch, still my favorite girl.
