In the time that I took a posting hiatus here I went on to do a lot of things. When it comes to art and creation I think its fair to say I’ve been somewhat prolific. I have not shared my forays outside of beadwork here, but other pursuits have made up a large part of my arts practice this year. One of the interesting things is that I started teaching myself oil painting. I chose florals as my subject and set out to create a consistent series. I’ve written a little bit more about that here.

This was an interesting new venture for me, having never touched oil painting before.

I don’t think I ever posted these here. In July 2016 I had the honor of taking part in a beautiful wedding ceremony as a bridesmaid for a wonderful couple who I live with, and have lived with on and off over a number of years. Incredibly darling people to me! The one at the top was an extra special piece for the groom with its multiple leaves and Swarovski crystal embellishment.  As part of a wedding gift I created these handmade boutonnieres for the groomsmen. This pattern required every bead to be stitched into place one by one. A labor of love. They were attached to the grooms mens suits using magnets, so as not to put any holes in the rented suits. Also it means the groomsmen could take them home and put them on the fridge afterwards or something, if they were so inclined.

I used that 2016 best nine website to show the best performing images I posted to instagram this year. I’ve posted my oil paintings, textile design, marker and pencil images, but it was my beadwork that outshone everything else.  Makes sense! Hey guys! Its been ages since I’ve posted anything around these parts. I’m still here doing stuff. I’ve just now started a dinky little Etsy shop for my bead work that I’m not even going to link to because its not set up well enough yet for me to be comfortable advertising.  I’ve made a lot of stuff, beadwork and otherwise since the forever ago I posted so its going to take a little while to get this account up to speed. I’ll probably write a bunch of posts and use the queue feature. (I’ve never used the queue feature before!) Anyway one of the things I’ve been doing a lot of over the last few months is textile design type of work on Redbubble. I created a pair of earrings recently that I’m really quite happy with.  It looks like it would be perfectly appropriate at a vintage styled wedding. Handmade by myself using gorgeous rose quarts cabochons wrapped in meticulously hand embroidered czech glass seed beads and finished of with a swarovski crystal and freshwater pearl dangle before being added to gold plated stainless steel ear wires.

Hi Tumblr, I have not seen you in a while. Sorry for the dearth of updates! I thought it might be nice to post something. I’ve moved house and am yet to set up a good spot for photography, but here’s one of my latest sculptures sitting on a piece of furniture in the new dining room. <3 Some exciting things are slated for this year, I’m making two bouquets for real brides. One for a wedding in March and another for a wedding in June. Exciting stuff. <3

A little artsy work in progress shot for an upcoming beaded bouquet. Swarovski crystal skulls center deep red glass beaded funeral lilies. These are for use in a gothic themed bridal shoot.

This is another on of my hand beaded bouquets. A lovely blue circle bouquet, with a variety of textures. I create floral elements by hand, using seed beads and wire to create intricate heirloom sculptures. A lot of time and care goes into every piece.

This is a work in progress design piece. The colour of these beads reminded me of ecru/undyed lined, so I thought trying to make something to look like tatted lace would be a nice way to use these beads. I’ve done more work since this photo was taken, but I’ll show you the finishd piece when its done. This is intricate work, each bead being added by hand, with no use of my bead spinner for this piece. I think making a whole necklace like this might be a bit too labor intensive to add it to my collection, but, its a good concept piece.

This is a piece I made a couple of weeks ago. Three rose quartz cabochons are wrapped in Czech seed beads and swarovski crystals. It was my first piece of beaded embroidery in this style. My previous work has pretty much been seedbeads on wire, which, is really about wirewrapping, and not about weaving. I’ve done a little beadwork on fabric, as fabric embellishment using beaded backstitch, but thats not the same as this kind of work either. I like it, it was a good learning piece, but I’m not going to try to reproduce it. I think it needs more white, and less gold to really look goof. The shape is interesting, it reminds me of old fertility goddess figurines.

A large order of beads has arrived, and I can get down into the task of designing simpler items for a reproducible line of jewelry items for sale. This is the first of the pieces for this collection.

This necklace is handmade using Swarovski crystals, in a stunning mint green colour that they call 'chrysolite opal', accenting the crystals gold and pink czech glass seed beads are incorporated into the design. Finishing the design is a cute floral gold coloured clasp.

My bead wholesale order arrived, which means I can get on to learning new techniques and designing a jewelry line. Can you believe this is only my second bead embroidered piece, using beadweaving to create a setting for a stone? I’m very pleased with it, though, you don’t need to do much to make swarovskis into gorgeous jewelry. The pendant contains a swarovski crystal focal wrapped in a hand bead embroidered setting. To complete the piece it is attached to a chain of luxurious gold colured freshwater pearls, with matching seed beads. I’m pretty pleased!

Finished off a practice piece. I made a present for a friends mothers birthday. Will post photos later, but gosh. I am a swarovski fangirl over here. You barely need to do anything to have a stunning piece. Despite not needing to do much I did a bunch of beading around the stone though. A++ - will bead again.
