"Shadow, Neither Rouge and Omega are available, And I need your last mission report yesterday." It wasn't a request from the commander. "What happened out there?"

Suddenly hearing the Commander ringing in his ears made the hog jerk in alert by nature with faint ear twitches. Sighing lowering his guard yet still moving his ears to be safe.

Then what he heard -

What, Neither Rouge and Omega are available?

"What? I was just with them moments ago - how Strange... I am going to be honest, I do not know. I've been having my blackout moments recently too; if this disappoints you Commander I'm sorry."

"No, Shadow, unable to contact me and give me a proper report."Corrects Abraham... But quite available for Shadow instead. A certain bat was on her way to get a pay cut.

His brow furrows at the mention of these moments of weakness -getting more and more common-, Acknowledging them as much as he acknowledged another issue he could do nothing about.

"And so I repeat -Blackout not whistanding, please see someone for it (a token gesture, at best)-, What happenned during your last mission?" details were important, but the commander had a feeling he'd have to get them another way.

❝I'm glad you and Shadow finally get along.❞ It's not one of Maria's better days, lethargy winning out, but at least she can see as she leans against Abe's side. It's still strange, to look up at an older gentleman and see such familiar eyes. The boy she knew, played with, learned with, and from her perspective he grew up so fast.

But he's still Abe. And she's still Maria. Time won't change that. And so with a teasing smile she asks, ❝Did you ever help each other with homework?❞ Now that would really be something.

Getting along was stretching the term thin. It was far more correct to say that an understanding had been reached, at the cost of a worldwide alien invasion, the perfect situation to force feelings out, if one felt so inclined.

But Abraham didn't feel correcting Maria. If he had been forced to grow up fast, she, her polar opposite, had remained the same as the last time he'd seen her, 50 years prior.

"Never. But he has Rouge help him write reports sometime... The only times these two ever give me a paper longer than a single page!." He laughed, a rare occurence Maria always made so easy to happen lately.

Without a word, only a tug on in his sleeve to get him to turn and look down, Maria holds up a flower crown. She's too short to put it on him herself. It's made of fake flowers, she couldn't bring herself to pluck any real ones, but this way it'll also last longer.

And with a warm smile she finally speaks up. ❝It suits you, Abe.❞

While Abraham cannot help but look down, he soon smiles tenderly and gets down on one knee, awaiting his 'coronation' by Maria.

"Why, thank you, Maria. It's worth all the medals in the world." Is his reply, not an ounce of irony in his words.

These moments were precious to him.

I ADORE how the Commander was written. I have a bit of a pet peeve about the way people write Tower as still hating Team Dark, Shadow in particular, when they literally put their differences aside in Shadow the Hedgehog. But here, gone is the immature brat calling Shadow a monster. He's shown as a pretty reliable guy that has come to respect Shadow. Gone is the immature brat calling Shadow a monster.

Also not Rouge calling him Abe 😭 that's so cute
