- The questions. Wanna go for a quick run at a grocery store? Wouldnât it be nice to just get your cereals and just be done with it? No. 9 out of 10 times you will get stupid questions about if youâre blind, if youâre training it or other annoying stuff.
- TBH bathroom stall are hell with service dog. Wanna go for a pee? Not before youâre able to fit a 70 pounds dog with you. I know not everyone has big dog for service dogs, but lets face it, the majority does.
- Public access. You will have trouble at least one time in your life with public access. You want to do a quick run to the grocery store but no, employers decides that dogs are not allowed and refuse to hear the law, cause hey, âonly guide dogs are service dogsâ.
- There is so many activities that are complicated with service dogs or impossible. The zoo for example, the dog isnât allowed everywhere and you canât just be â Oh Iâll go without him cause you know I really want to go into that petting zoo area! â Nope, too bad. Wanna go to the pool? Too bad, service dogs are allowed there.. but not in the water. In my case, no pool for me, since the dog canât be near me. Wanna go to the beach? Not before you have a dog that puts a lot of responsibility with you, playing in the water with a dog tied to yourself is NOT fun. He doesnât want to stay in the water all the time, he doesnât want to swim for an hour either.
- Wanna go to Starbucks? Just drink your tea? Nope too bad, everyone will look at you.
- Everybody is now aware that youâre disabled. Literally everybody. Wanna go on a date? Not without your disabled furry etiquette. Wanna go with friends? Not without him either! You donât get to chose if itâs convenient to bring him, you HAVE to.
- Would you go outside with all of your disabilities and mental illnesses written on you? For everyone to see? Thatâs pretty much what a service dog does. Except itâs worse, people will assume that you got more, people will guess at the disabilities.
- Youâre considered different. Either annoying people will come to you and ask stupid questions, or be like â omg I wish I could bring my dog with me â or â What do I have to do to bring my dog with me â or just be plain looked, stared, but ignored. Nobody treats you normal.
- And the worse? Youâre disabled. Do you really need any other reason? People donât get what ALL the time means. Service dog with you all time is literally all the time. Bathroom, car, stores, activities, public transportation, hobbies, cinema, school, job, job interview ( youâre 99% sure not to get the job if you have a SD ). Itâs not fun.
Your life changes with a service dog. There is so many times that I wish I couldâve went somewhere without Whisper but thatâs impossible. Not everything is fun with a SD, you donât want a dog following you all the time when itâs LITERALLY all the time. I love Whisper, he changed my life for the best, made me able to go outside, do stuff on my own. But if some pills couldâve done the same I wouldâve went with that. As harsh as it sounds , sometimes, a dog is a burden and the said activity could be done much more easier without him.
