Chicago Soul. The beautiful Minnie Riperton
If I had one word to describe Sam Cooke, it would simply be; Great. . .
The Definition of Soul
Happy birthday Fela!!!!!
The Chicago Marathon would not be the same without you.
Rest In Peace Sammy Wanjiru
Rest In Peace to one of The Civil Rights Movement's most influential figures.

Greatness in the form of FELA....
It's Lou Rawls Day
Each generation must, out of relative obscurity, discover its mission, fulfill it, or betray it.
Frantz Fanon
Thelonious Sphere Monk = The Great Wonder of Jazz, Pioneer of a style, and effortlessly cool.
Every star has an influence. So you should know that before him there was a Jimi Hendrix, there was Hubert Sumlin. Hubert Sumlin backed Howlin' Wolf during his entire career until Wolf's death. He's been dubbed a heavy influence for almost ANY man who held a guitar after him, from Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton, to the Rolling Stones and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Many many more, have followed. He's still very much alive today and he still tours.
Hats off to You Mr. Hubert Sumlin!!!!
The Clash
Sam Cooke, with his old pal and fellow Chicagoan, Lou Rawls.
I really wish they would've recorded together more.
Greatness is an Understatement.
Stokely Carmichael
I've been reading The LIfe and Struggles of Stokely Carmichael. And while doing so, I've immersed myself in the culture of the time. I've tried placing myself in Stokely's presence. I can't seem to understand how someone so strong, dignified, articulate and intelligent could NOT have ruled the world? His intelligence is so profound. If only this generation bared a son so powerful with words. I can't imagine what he could have accomplished given more resources. Quite unfathomable.
People seemed so much more purposeful at that time. What happened?
