i just cannot understand how someone believes that how someone identifies can automatically erase their oppression or create power where there was none before
if a "cis woman" is mistreated all of their life via misogyny just because he realizes he is a man that does not mean people will stop treating him like a woman. maybe a broken one, or a weirdo, or confused, or a pervert, if he comes out to the wrong people.
if he were to transition and not want to try and pass as a cis man, even when (or if, he may not even want to) he completes his transition and looks like a queer man he will not have the same privilege as a cis man, maybe more privilege due to being seen as a man. but he is visibly queer.
now, if we say he goes down the path of transition to look like a cis man and does so successfully and manages to go stealth (leaving all of his old friends + family who knew him pre-transition + moving) he may have more privilege, but it is conditional.
so my idea here is while a trans man may gain some privileges if he chooses to transition, it is not exactly comparable to a cis man's experiences.
i have not been able to transition but i am still a man, most people who see me at a glance see me as a woman. sometimes i am able to convince people that i am a man- which usually comes with a lot of invasive questions at best and quite literally sexually assaulting me at its worst so far
by holding the beliefs that gender is everything and that "woman=good, always right" "man=bad, always horrible" you are upholding the social construct that oppresses you. that gender has some inherent meaning and people that are male act X and female act Y is transmed in a way im not sure how to phrase
identifying as a man isnt enough to hold privileges, you must fit every standard you possibly can (which as a trans man 9/10 you cannot fit the standard of "being born a man")
i think that everyone is capable of misogyny, in my experience women (especially parents) tend to be extremely misogynistic in their standards for themselves and others they see as women.
what im trying to say is that everyone has to unlearn misogyny, no matter if youre a man, woman, enban, or any other gender you must go through that process, and generally trans people tend to be less misogynistic than cis people.
i think i got a little off track here and this isnt supposed to be some rock solid essay, just my attempt at putting my thoughts down into words. lots of this is incomplete so if anyone can help expand on my thought process thatd be great.
if you disagree, please do so respectfully or i will not consider what you say. thanks
