It was like word vomit. The second he asked what was wrong she’d just started talking and couldn’t stop, like she had just been waiting for anyone to care enough to listen. She could easily deal with a few fails here and there because she didn’t do an assignment or a paper was late but she always made up for it when there was a test. How could she have screwed up the system so much to almost fail her midterm? But the moment he mentioned the counselor she felt like she’d been punched in the stomach. Of course he wanted her to talk to the counselor, he’d just been waiting for her to stop talking. “No… no I cant do that. It’s fine. I’m making a bigger deal but it’s nothing.” She grabbed her stuff off her desk and started shoving it into her bag. “I’m sorry I shouldn’t have said anything.” It wasn’t like she couldn’t deal with her fathers drinking, she’d been doing it for years. If he wanted to raise his voice or his hand, it wasn’t new. “I’m late for class.”
donovan never wanted to let his students down. if anything he’ never forgive himself for knowing he could of done more. so the thought of someone coming to him & having no idea what to do ----- it was alarming. an art teacher wasn’t the saving grace for a student in crisis. he could be the best assistant to their well being, but he couldn’t be their savior. “ hey... if you don’t want to talk to the know it all in the office, i can’t force you. it’s not my place to make that kind of decision. ” with a heavy sigh he found a place to lean back on his desk, rethinking the situation to find something in the books he could do. “ you got this far already, if you want to keep talking you’re free to. i’ll write you a note or something. cause this ? this isn’t nothing. art’s the class where you let it all out in the open. so please, let it out. ” he knew he couldn’t do much more than that, but at this point it seemed like what she needed was someone to listen. & at least, he could be that.
