do you think Elias would play golf? I know that in cinematography business playing golf is very useful to gain new connections but I have no idea if it's true for academics of any sort. And I know that it's a rich thing to do and he's not, but I do think he lives in comfort and likes being extra, for lack of a better word. Or is it more of an American thing to do? Sorry for the silly question I just think there's possibility for character analysis in every detail
let's start with Elias' finances. based on og Elias' behaviour, Bouchards are old money so theoretically speaking Jonah would have the funds to play golf. at this point in time I think he has established his relationships enough for it to be a handshake thing, he knows the people who introduce him to other people and so on. which could happen during Institute events
I think if he were to be building business connections, then I imagine that would actually happen in membership clubs. somewhere exclusive and private, somewhere no one can overhear Jonah maybe blackmailing someone who is a little reluctant to give their money to a place like the Institute
he could theoretically be invited to play golf! he is certainly athletic enough for it. but would he do it? mini golf maybe?
and I actually have wanted to make a post about this. I don't think Elias lives extravagantly. I think he enjoys comfort, but he doesn't overspend. the Institute requires a lot of money after all. I do wish we knew more about the financial side of it *sigh*
(I know nothing about networking in the UK so this is just me guessing ajdhshdh but by this time Elias probably has enough reliable contacts anyway)
I just got the extremely cursed image of Elias playing basketball driven into my mind with excessive force.
Anyway, that aside, I donāt think heād be much of a sports guy, barring the extremely unlikely occasion which requires it for socialisation (so weāre talking golf, maybe tennisā¦ something that as op mentions requires a fancy club)
But for the fun of hypotheticals: I think heād be a swimmer. Itās a solo sport, great for building and maintaining physical fitness in all parts of the body while also providing a lifesaving skill.

Hehe I think the funniest yet truest answer to this is that Olujimi is the only one who cares about the world cup and football in general.
He's such a chill, warm, calming person that nobody expects him to go full sports fan when the World Cup rolls around, but he absolutely does.
(he and Pope Francis would get along swimmingly)
In a hypothetical scenario where all three priests are together during the World Cup being hosted in Toronto, Jonas would ask Frederick "Is this normal?" when Olu transforms from chillest man alive to fired up fan, and Frederick would be absolutely baffled but say it only happens every four years when FIFA rolls around. A very rare occurrence.
Around that time Olu will be absent from the church other than attending to his duties, because he's busy hanging out at sports bars or all the places they're broadcasting the game and having a good time with fellow fans - many of them from his own parish.
Neither Frederick nor Jonas are into football but they'll sit down and watch it and get into it when Olu invites them to watch some games together.
As for other sports:
If we consider chess a sport, that's Frederick's favourite. He's always been bookish; not a very sporty guy in general.
Jonas loves basketball; he did a lot of street basketball as a kid. It's practically the Philippines' national sport - we just don't compete on the global stage because we're all too short.
He also likes volleyball.

i made a post like this before but I can't find it now. so. I'll just redo it.
What's the first "big news story" you remember from when you were a kid?
It's something I love to ask mixed-aged groups sometimes because I think it's really interesting to see the responses. I've gotten answers from the Olympics of [whatever year] to Watergate to more recent stuff from my niblings.
My first news thing I remember is the OJ Simpson trial. I vaguely remember watching the news with my grandparents before that, but that's the first story I remember, in part because my second grade teacher had us go play so she could watch the verdict š
I remember walking down the street and seeing a sign protesting George W. Bushās war on Iraq, so I think that.
I remember lazily sitting on the couch, half listening to the news going on about a sudden fire outbreak that was covering ground in terrifying speeds and threatening several residential areas around some olive tree fields. It took me a while to realise those were our olive tree fields.
