Casual, canon-compliant Takayuki Yagami from the Judgment / Yakuza series. Canon familiar with Judgment and Lost Judgment as well as Yakuza 0-7 and its spin-offs. Will thread with non-mutuals, but selective about following back to keep dashboard clean. Writer is 21+.

Because he's a piece of shit, Takayuki's first thought is to say something along the lines of Kaito-san, the doctor literally said not to strain yourself. Pulling him into his hospital bed ought to count as a penalty, especially when the surprise of it all means Takayuki's weight had been pressed into Kaito's body.

But the hands on his face shake a little, and feeling that from someone as confident as Kaito-- one of the bravest people Takayuki's ever had the honour of knowing-- makes it impossible to tease him.

The most Takayuki does to follow the doctor's orders is shift his weight, making it so a hand and one of his knees keep him upright on the mattress. Everything else, though, is entirely selfish.

Takayuki kisses back, shuts his eyes, and breathes in deep despite the reek of antiseptic. Beneath it all is the scent of his best friend, and battle rival, and partner, and soulmate.

And, gods, it feels good to kiss him after wanting to for almost a decade.

A millimetre of separation is the only reason Takayuki speaks up. His lips part around a "wait" because he isn't done, and as his free hand takes one of Kaito's on his cheek, Takayuki helps him loop his arm around his shoulders. Like this, far closer and definitely more intimate, their lips touch again. And because this time he feels more prepared, Takayuki even teases him with a little suck to Kaito's lip.

Just in case he opens up for him.

Benoit is so fucking gentle with him. If he were a better man, Takayuki might have even felt bad about it.

As it is he cracks a smile because hell, it's about time he got something nice. The bandage around his hand would have been enough; count on Benoit to go the extra mile, though.

"I don't know why you worried about nerve damage," he says once Benoit's head raises. "I definitely felt that."

He curls and uncurls his hand into a fist, then wiggles his fingers for emphasis. Takayuki imagines Benoit must not be used to how many things can be solved in Kamurocho with a good fight; it's not the first time a brief slip up caused a knife to nick him and it won't be the last, but it did get them a packet of documents detailing some fascinating evidence. Once he translates everything, he's certain they'll be able to form a proper case for this American military man's murder... one that'll hold up in court, finally.

There aren't very many people convinced that Takayuki's client isn't the culprit. That the private eye the victim's family hired happened to be one of them was already a win to him when they first crossed paths, and that they got along (not everyone was so courteous to defence attorneys, Takayuki learned) was another.

But Benoit not thinking he was disgusting when-- in his joy at finally getting the evidence they needed-- Takayuki kissed him about half an hour prior admittedly feels like the biggest win yet. He thinks he deserves an award for not doing more than that; weeks of slaving away at investigating nooks and crannies and dead ends means he's seen Benoit at least once everyday for ages now. The sight of him with Takayuki's blood on his lip from the kiss had nearly been impossible to accept calmly.

He's all bandaged up now, though, and they've called it for the night as far as work goes. Takayuki's tongue wets his lip.

"But that's not all you'll kiss... right?"

Courtney shivers and Takayuki almost pulls his hand back. Almost, but he's not quite that polite, and so the brief touch to the back of her hand turns into a proper hold.

"You don't really want to leave," he starts, "do you?"

He's going to lose this apartment soon. It feels final; he's never going to be in the courts as a lawyer again, and so will no longer afford the small slice of Kamurocho that was, for a blissful moment, his. But while he still owns it he can offer it for Courtney to take, and she can use her favourites of his pillows and blankets to escape the chill of winter.

Why she considers subjecting herself to it when she doesn't have to isn't his business. Takayuki pulls her so half her arm is through his doorway all the same.

"Stay."

His tone starts out gentle, then turns firm.

"Courtney. Stay."

ethan’s immediate response to the question — “ no, not really ” — is only partially true. while he admittedly hadn’t woken up the moment that takayuki had snuck away, it also hadn’t taken long at all for him to wake up and realize that the other side of the bed was empty. hell, he doesn’t think that takayuki had even made any noise in the kitchen to alert him to his absence — ethan had simply woken up and put two and two together.

it’s like a sixth sense, ethan’s awareness when it comes to takayuki.

“ want some company? ” he asks, moving one hand so that it can brush against takayuki’s. “ it isn’t any fun to drink alone. ”

ethan is all too familiar with sleep and its elusiveness, and if he can help at all to make it any easier on takayuki, then that’s what he’s going to do.

“ i promise i’ll be well-behaved. ” to add extra emphasis, ethan shifts slightly, his lips grazing against takayuki’s jaw as yet another point of contact.

Takayuki shivers, slight and small, at the press of Ethan's mouth onto his skin. "That doesn't feel very well-behaved..."

Still, there's a smile on his face when he turns in Ethan's hold to sling an arm around his shoulders.

"But I guess I made enough tea for two for a reason."

It doesn't take much manoeuvring to guide Ethan towards their kitchen table. A few hungry afternoons have been spent here, and Takayuki has enough fresh memories that in the right context he might have pressed Ethan back and slid to his knees.

For now, though, he moves the chairs around so they can sit beside each other. The height difference makes it awkward, but he rests his temple on Ethan's shoulder all the same.

"You remember what you dreamt about?" he asks. Not "did you dream", but "do you remember".

Sudden touch typically has him flinching-- Takayuki's connection to reality is tenuous at best, and has been ever since the Baker House all those weeks ago. But with Ethan (who's been by him for so long now it's almost like they're telepathic), the weight of his arms around him comes across as a relief, like regaining something he'd lost. One hand drops to land on Ethan's forearm where it rests against his stomach, trying to strengthen that connection. The other lifts to ruffle lightly through Ethan's light hair.

"Did I wake you?" he asks.

The second bedroom in the apartment rarely gets used these days; it's become standard for them to share. Takayuki thought himself sneaky when he'd slowly slipped out a few minutes earlier to make tea, but he stands corrected.

"I couldn't sleep," he admits, head turning slightly to press his nose to Ethan's temple. "I thought tea might help."
