The Miracle Misthios [starter with exglebearer]
exglebearer:
“I’ve only thought as such for as long as I’ve been fighting,” she replied, voice fading slightly as she went on, weariness threatening to overtake. The Cult had defined her entire life; she hardly had any positive experiences to share.
A small, cautious smile graced her face, though her body remained tensed as a precaution. “Kassandra.”
“Pleasure to meet ya, Kassandra,” Rebecca said, clearly at ease around her new companion. “Now then, I’m guessing from the outfit and the weapons you’re a…misthios, right?” That was the word for mercenary around here, wasn’t it? Rebecca hoped she was understanding this right.
“If I’m right, that probably means we have a similar job. Back home I was part of a group that went around doing mercenary work.” The fact that most of those contracts involved killing monsters should probably go unmentioned, Rebecca considered, since there didn’t seem to be anything other than wild animals and bandits around these parts. “So if we’re both doing mercenary work and we both hate that damn cult…might be a good idea if we partner up for a while. If nothing else, we’ll not be stepping on each other’s toes when it comes to killing those cultists.”
“That obvious, hmm?” Her cautious smile remained, though her guard was ever as strong. Crossing her arms, Kassandra regarded Rebecca suspiciously, careful not to betray too much to her new compatriot.
The warrior cocked her head at the proposition, her guarded expression replaced with a particular curiosity. “I can respect a fellow mercenary. That’s an...interesting proposal.”
Typically, she worked best alone, but it might not hurt to have some help for a time. “I’d be willing to entertain, but -” She edged closer, her voice taking a distinctive edge as she spoke. “You betray me, I will not hesitate to end you.”
