gonna be honest folks it was a lot easier for me to go to work when i was more depressed because i didn't really care how i spent my day. now i'm worried the morning sunlight is going to touch my face at just the right angle and i'll be putting in my two weeks before i've walked through the front door
IS MOON DAY!!! MOOOOON DAY!!!! THE DAY OF MOOOOON! HAPPY MOON DAY 🌝 (we landed on the moon today in 1969)
There's hardly anything like worm when it comes to its relentless insistence on first person narration. A million and a half words in one person's head sounds totally unsustainable, but it works in worm (where it fails elsewhere) because it mirrors Taylor's disassociation, depersonalization, etc.
Many have noted that Taylor's power allows her a "perfect" view of fights. Through her bugs, Taylor gains a kind of weak omniscience. This way, her first person narration becomes, in turn, a kind of weak omniscient third person.
But this, too, is a facet of her trauma response. Her bugs allow her to escape the pain of her human body, but such a tactic has lasting consequences for her mental well-being. She loses the ability to easily move between this bird's-eye view of life and a more personal view, centered around her own body. She can multitask impeccably, she can forgo food and sleep with ease (to the point of being dangerously underweight), but she cannot locate her own ego within her human body.
And this pathology finds its formal counterpart in the kind of numb distance of Taylor's first person narration, where her own thoughts must struggle to burst in at the edges via the intervention of italics.
This wreaks havoc in her interpersonal relationships, as can be seen in her awkwardness with Brian. She cannot process something so deeply centralized within the body as sexuality, and so the banal embarrassment of a crush is rendered in a dull, distant first person--as though she is describing someone else entirely. The sex act itself, therefore, cannot be articulated at all, hence the total absence of it from her thoughts.
Poor girl :(
i hope we can all agree that i look fucking siiiiiiiick in this.
i really fuck with it when my oomfs start their posts in media res. they'll open it with a phrase like "it's just funny because..." and then i look at their blog to see what's funny and. nothing.
It's like how Beowulf opens with a call to attention.

Not to be a bitch but sometimes people engage with fiction in the most boring way possible, and nowhere is this clearer than in videogames. Like what you mean you hate a character just because they were kind of abrasive when speaking to the player character? "They were mean to me" and it didn't occur to you to wonder why? Like, what might their attitude toward you reveal about the world? About the social dynamics within it? About their own perspectives and backgrounds and personalities? Does it even occur you to ask? Would you only have liked them if they bowed to your presence and talked about how great you are? Like I'm sorry but you're so boring. How boring fiction would be if it cathered to you
"I can't believe humans would hunt the thylacine to extinction, humans are fundamentally evil" Hey, did you know that extinction was long thought to be impossible, and within 50 years of humans realizing that extinction via overhunting was a possibility it practically stopped happening? Did you know that humans are so desperate to prevent more losses that they're funneling millions of collective hours and billions of euros into helping other species? Hours and euros that could be spent on humans, and species on whom humanity's own survival does not depend? Did you know that due to an accidental introduction of rats, the Lord Howe Island stick insect population was brought down to 24 individuals and now there are tens of thousands of them?
This bug. This bug that, to most humans, is utterly useless, relatively gross, and completely foreign. Humans saved it because humans do not want to cause another extinction ever again if they can avoid it.
Can I just say something honestly and very seriously to all you writers?
With the Internet going down the "nothing adult, no death, no nothing. Make it kid friendly" route,
Please don't ever stop making art or writing wips that are gruesome, horror, other things like that. Don't let the Internet sanitize how you wanna tell a story. Channel your rage into your art and keep going and don't give up
