Hi , can I ask if it is possible that Dazai's father is the former boss that mori killed. I am just so curious huhu
This was a theory some people considered early on when trying to determine Dazai’s origin, but as of the release of the most recent season of the anime, and the Fifteen light novel, Mori confirms that Dazai was not associated with himself or the previous boss prior to him finding him.
As of right now, we don’t know anything regarding Dazai’s biological family, although, we can assume that they are either dead, as many of the characters in the series are orphans, or he is in some way estranged from them.
hello!! i'm confused about something, why bullets doesn't reach dazai? like in those escenes from his past, sorry to bother with this question but i don't totally get if it's something else than just luck or...
it’s a mix of luck and skill from being a past mafia executive. dazai must have experienced rigorous training and he is quite sharp when it comes to predictions. if you are referring to the scene from the dark era light novel, dazai did have the tip of his right ear grazed, which is why you see blood.
why Fitzgerald want to destroy city
the reason that fitzgerald wanted to destroy yokohama was because he was desperate to find the book. the book is said to be invulnerable to physical and ability-related damage, so he figured that razing the city to the ground would reveal the book’s location.
hi! I'm sorry if this question seems dumb but i'm kinda new and confused with bsd and this thing in particular, may i ask for an explanation about mori's ability? i can't get it at all, sorry
First of all, there is no such thing as a dumb question and we’re here to answer questions regardless! Mori’s ability is indeed a strange one, but we can boil it down to its similarity of being able to manifest physical apparitions like Kyouka and Kouyou can with their demons. In this sense Mori can manifest Elise, though we rarely see her fight. Elise can manifest in whatever form Mori chooses, although she appears to have a fairly consistent appearance. For more information on Elise, we have a little character analysis here!
Can u please explain the Atsushi ability refer as beast beneath the moonlight n is there any other books reference related to his ability, can u name all those please? Can u please suggest where to buy moon over the mountain novel/story
beast beneath the moonlight is a transformation type ability where atsushi is mainly subjected to turning into a white tiger under the full moon or when he is in mortal peril. we have also seen the full tiger transformation to be invulnerable to bullet wounds. after joining the armed detective agency, fukuzawa’s ability took effect over this and granted atsushi more control over the tiger’s form so that he can now partially transform.
it appears that moon over the mountain is the only work that matches the character’s ability, but you can find a book containing both this short story and several others titled ‘the Moon Over the Mountain: Stories’. We recommend that you take your time looking for this online and choose an appropriate seller and price related to your area of residence. happy reading!
Can you explain an analysis of ayatsuji yukito. Hes only in the light novel but hes really interesting I'm hoping to hear more about his ability and his complex as a character :0
unfortunately neither of us have been able to read the entirety of the light novel ayatsuji appears in so we would be unable to give a proper analysis at this time. when we have, we can certainly write one!
for the meantime though, i personally believe his ability matches his story’s gruesome nature by killing off criminals with seemingly senseless deaths.
So I have started reading the novels for BSD (I've already watched the anime), I noticed that the Dazai entrance exam part was mixed with the present with Atsushi... So in the novel what is the first things that Atsushi actually does? Like what are the differences from the novel or manga if we compared it to the anime(can you list them I'm very curious actually T_T)?
hello, we hope you enjoy the light novels just as much! we have actually answered a similar question in the past here!
to further answer your question, that particular light novel takes place before atsushi joins the agency so the story omits his character! atsushi’s first actions are the same as in the manga, except for his involvement with the azure king storyline.
Hey, is it possible to do like, a character analysis on Elise? I know she is an ability and all that, but I mean as of like, how she acts towards Dazai, Chuuya, Koyo, basically as to others?
Hello~! Apologies for the wait on this one, I had to take some time and refresh my memory on some things before I proceeded. It’s not a very long analysis, but here we go:
hi i been wondering, what happened with akutawaga? is he dead or a vampire or what is he? i honestly don't understand his situation and the other members of the mafia
Admittedly, the plot has been a bit, well... interesting... recently in terms of pacing and the introduction of new characters. However, we can confirm that Akutagawa is, at the moment, undead/a vampire.
Whether he will remain as such is unclear, because even death can be, in most cases in BSD, averted, though this being said, we don’t know if this is the result of an ability-ability (such as Kunikida’s and/or Atsushi’s) or if it’s more akin to Lovecraft’s powers. It will be interesting to see how things play out as the story progresses.
hey! i'm currently reading the light novel for dazai's entrance exam, and my question is that if the light novel is describing kunikida + dazai's first mission together, why is atsushi there in the anime adaption (since episode 6-7 are based off the light novel)? it makes it confusing to read
Like a few other key moments that are present in the light novels, or the manga for that matter, they’ve been adapted and/or removed to focus more on Atsushi.
In the light novel, Atsushi is not present, because the story takes place in the past, but, for one reason or another, the anime adaptation decided to make it the present.
It does make it a bit odd to read if you’ve seen the anime beforehand, or even in the opposite direction having read the light novel and then seeing the anime.
The main focus of Dazai’s Entrance Exam was the bond between Dazai and Kunikida and why they’re able to work together as partners, and is from Kunikida’s point of view. However, the anime takes it in a different direction and gives us Atsushi’s POV, which could be a way of allowing us, as the audience, to see their dynamic from the outside. (Though I, personally, liked having Kunikida’s input and narration when reading the story with Messy.)
Messy and I are often looking at the differences between these adaptations and wondering why they’ve changed certain aspects, and the only real conclusion we can draw is that it was done for the above reason: To allow Atsushi to take center stage a bit more, since he is the main character after all. I hope this was helpful, even if I don’t know the exact reason they decided to do it!
Were there any significant changes in Ranpo's personality or mannerisms from the start of the series all the way until the final arc (the arc where the Hunting dogs and all that craziness happens)? He's grown to become my favorite character and I kinda want to have a better understanding of him from before and now. At this rate I'm asking for a Ranpo Character Analysis hahaha. But if possible, can you explain Ranpo's character development? Thank you!
We apologize for the majorly delayed response, life has been pretty chaotic lately, and Messy and I are just now having the opportunity to properly take a look at this blog. Well, without further ado, here we go~
Hello everyone! Thank you for being patient and for continuing to follow this blog during our period of extended silence. As we have gotten some work to do for this blog you can expect updates soon! ESD is not dead!
Hello, Messy and Lamp here with a little update about the blog~
We apologize for our extended absence, due to school and other personal reasons, we have not been able to do much here on the blog, but, we are more than happy to answer your questions now that we are able to do so properly!
We plan to update the bio page soon, though we ask for your patience as this will take a bit of time to finish up, as a lot has happened since our last update.
We hope to continue answering your questions as best and as frequently as we can!
Where can I watch the anime adaptation of dazais entrance exam?? Thanks!
Unfortunately, there has not been an anime adaption of that particular light novel, likely due in part that the story line was reworked to include Atsushi, and encompasses the Azure Messenger arc in season one with Sasaki Nobuko.
The only light novel that has been animated so far, to the best of my knowledge, was Dazai and The Dark Era, which is covered in four or so episodes at the beginning of season two.
The anime itself is still available to watch on Crunchyroll, and I believe they allow for a thirty day free trial if you want to watch it, but perhaps don’t have the money for a subscription.
Did Ranpo figure out Dazai’s past in the Port Mafia when they first met?
It isn’t stated exactly what Ranpo learned about Dazai when they first met, as Ranpo doesn’t say anything regarding what he learned aloud, but the way the scene plays out it’s likely he picked up on something important, or perhaps nothing at all.
Both would explain why he went from boldly demonstrating his “ability” to suddenly being so quiet. Since Super Deduction is either just Ranpo’s keen observational skills/intelligence at work [or perhaps even a supernatural skill more in line with Lovecraft’s power in terms of how it’s presented], he could have easily picked up on a lot of things about Dazai and chosen not to say anything.
Unless we hear it directly from Ranpo or another character he may have told, we won’t be exactly certain what he discovered.
Hello! i' ve wondering, why in the anime adaption of the Dazai Osamu entrance exam the didn't put the escene when Kunikida actually shoot Dazai in the face? ( i trully believe that the adaption of this light novels which are before the entrance of Atsushi should be animated as an OVA format)
It’s hard to say exactly why the scene was cut, though it is possible it was done due to time constraints, as most series are made to fit into around a half hour time slot, including commercials along with the opening and ending sequences.
Additionally, there were a number of changes to the plot from the light novel to the manga and then finally the anime adaption, as the last two were made to fit within the main story and needed to feature Atsushi.
Other examples of scrapped scenes from the manga and light novel series are Kunikida fainting after learning Dazai’s former occupation, and a scene during the Guild Arc in which he is tied to a chair as he suffers the effects of Yumeno’s curse, the latter of which also being an important scene in my own opinion as it shows how guilty Kunikida feels about everything that happened during the Azure Messenger Arc.
Personally, I would also love to see an OVA adaption of Dazai Osamu’s Entrance Exam, because it shows how Kunikida and Dazai’s partnership came to be, as well as gives insight into what some of the other characters thought of Dazai when he first appeared.
