one thing I've noticed while reading the early chapters of Frankenstein, that could easily be missed in the fast pace of events, is Victor's displaying rather obvious signs of grief. Before the linear understanding of grieveing as a process that goes through definite stages (reductive but I digress), grieveing was seen as a kin to madness, erratic and even dangerous if not contained by proper social etiquette. We see him alienating himself, switching between deep despair and anger by the quick change of circumstances, Kremp becames a catalyst of ego death while Waldman induces mania in him, he's both happy and disgusted by new human connections. You can see how he was struggling the moment he left Geneva alone, at the age of seventeen in a moment of temporarily numbness to the very recent passing of his mother. I think Mary Shelley wrote this on purpose, and through this we can understand the creation to be driven by grief as much as unchecked ambition. crimminaly underexplored in adaptations in my opinion
What if Gloria gave her heart to someone who loved her?
I like when the dimitri jumps out of him
Lanyon copes with the lack of control he has over his life and his stresses by partying and manipulating people around him, stringing men along and dumping them whenever they get attached.
Hyde copes with the stress of being part of a deeply unhappy man half the time & having a flimsy sense of identity by drinking and sleeping around. There’s an interesting parallel that could be drawn between the two.
Both of them feel no control over their lives, intentionally attempt to stay unattached to anything other than their vices, and both cope similarly. (Now, this could be a societal trend, but I think correlating them would be sick.)
Does Hyde flirt like Lanyon used to, even subconsciously? He could throw in a purred “Darling—“, smiles that smug half smile and tilts his head like he did, not realizing who he got that from.
Maybe Hyde has a sense of superiority that he doesn’t string along his lovers, doesn’t whisper pretty words in their ears before tossing them aside.
(Of course, he doesn’t acknowledge that he very intentionally just keeps them unattached, no strings and no expectations.)
Or, maybe he does. When Hyde is feeling spiteful, he picks some man who looks like he’s never been in the East End before, eyes roving across the bar, tells him nice things, and then disappears.
There’d be some mental gymnastics. Maybe “it’s not the same”, or “it’s revenge”, or “I’m teaching him a lesson so he won’t get attached like I did”. (I’m doing him a favor, frankly!—)
There’s a lot to work with, and would be an interesting way to get into Jekyll’s baggage that he refuses to analyze.
This sounds like such a neat and heartbreaking idea and character study! Hyde unintentionally or intentionally mimicking Lanyon's playboy persona from college to keep distant from any fling he has, because it clearly worked for Lanyon, right?
can i be honest. i don't like when you guys frame herbert's mistreatment of women as proof of him being queer
similarly i think we should talk more about the misogyny female characters face in this franchise as a whole, not just herbert. literally every woman has died or suffered immensely while herbert + dan are fine every time, and this is never brought up unless it is in relation to danbert. like i love your optimism but herbert's resentment toward every woman in the franchise isn't the writers' fun way of hinting that he's gay/trans, you're watching a movie from 1985 when there wasn't enough of a push to Be Nice To Women
recently found this production of Little Shop of Horrors featuring a Black Seymour, played by Andrew Montgomery Coleman! i think he's very charming, especially with his little peace sign dfgk

OH HELLO BIRTHDAY BOY the thrilling conclusion:
trans bears are literally stronger than any US marine
How on earth would they be able to tell that a bear is trans. I’m not saying they can’t be but how would they communicate that.
:/
this is so fucking funny

In like 1998 my very femme lesbian friend went to Pride in London and was all excited at the “teddy bears picnic” happening in one of the city parks. She took along a picnic hamper and her cuddly teddy bear. Needless to say, the large hairy gay men all thought she was adorable and she had a great time
Found these super cute dungarees on Pinterest and knew what I had to do. 😈
