As explorers we like to get outside Kansas City once in awhile and visit places that are located within a tank of gas of the metro area.

A recent trip to Lawrence was inspired by a story and videos in The Kansas City Star about Dr. James Naismithâs Original Rules of Basketball and the shrine built to house them on the University of Kansas campus, The DeBruce Center. The Kansas City Starâs videos are narrated by Kansan and KU alum Bill Kurtis.

The $18 million shrine was completed within the past year and is connected to Allen Fieldhouse via walkway.
The legacy and traditions of basketball at Kansas University date back to Dr. Naismith who brought his rules to Lawrence  The rules were purchased recently from Naismithâs nephew and brought back to Lawrence.
For more information about The DeBruce Center visit their website. Visitors will also want to take the time to visit the Booth Hall of Athletics, a museum dedicated to the history of athletics at Kansas University.
