Soon after Dennis Nilsen was found guilty of murder in November 1983, a book was hastily published about the case. Written by a tabloid journalist, it is replete with errors, exaggerations and outright lies (of course). Nilsen wrote his own comments in the front and back of the book:

Front:

“Another boring book about my crimes… A lot of badly researched misinformation. If he had bothered to wait for the truth, i.e my first hand testimony, he would have found the real horror therein. DN.20/12/83”

Back:

“John Lisners is a regular contributor to that ultimate drain blockage called ‘The News of the World”. His ‘literary’ style is not even capable of reaching CSE [Certificate of Secondary Education - a (now disused) qualification in English schools] English level. He uses a lot of second and third hand rumour and gossip. This ‘work’ is not good because it is preaching and largely inaccurate. It’s the sort of trashy stuff one would expect from a N of the W hack. He has made quite a lot of money out of my offences – and fact I am his bread and butter. He is my cowardly mouse.”
