the biggest plot twist in saltburn was actually when oliver was lying on the grave and he started taking off his shirt and i was like "oh god he's going to take off his pants isn't he" and then he only took off his shirt and i was like "oh phew" and then as soon as i relaxed he actually took off his pants. true emotional roller coaster right there.

I think the thing about Saltburn that makes me lose my mind the most is that Oliver's longing was so intense that he found a way to cast himself in the play of Felix's life, taking on the role of the damsel in distress specifically so Felix could feel like the hero. I mean, what the fuck. He really went out there and said I will make myself weak so you can feel strong. I will be small so you can be big. Whatever role I can get in your life, I'll take. Just to be near you. Just to gaze at you with your little red glasses and lollipop, Lolita-ing it up on a hot summer day. Just to drink your cummy bathwater after you jerk off. And when Felix found out all that he'd done, he didn't want him anymore. How fucked up is that. If some feral little man turned himself into Oliver fucking Twist to seduce me I'd let him nip at my heals like a sad little dog for the rest of my life. What the fuck.

oh so when Ollie says he's a vampire, he really means it, huh

- has to be invited in to Saltburn bc otherwise he wouldn't be able to ever enter that world

-the place is called Saltburn-salt is often used as warding against evil forces (but once invited into the protective space it is too late)

-he's there to consume these people, take their lives so he may live on (as the version of himself he sees as his due)

-consuming bodily fluids that are regarded as carrying someone's 'essence'/life (blood, seminal fluid)

-he's visiting people at night to prey on them, using their weak points, in this position behaves more dominantly than his daylight self

- a lot of this 'vampiric' behaviour is also mixed with sexuality, which is very much part of the vampire image

-destroying the mirror that doesn't show him (how he wants to appear...in the ending scene he no longer has a problem with it, relishes his new image as sy with status)

- Venetia, who he originally calls himself a vampire to, dies losing a lot of blood

i still can’t get over how good the weapon design is in malignant. and the killing style, as well. gabriel is so attuned to the aesthetics of his revenge, but the poetry of it is 100% for him. he doesn’t kill anyone in such a way that it makes a statement to others; he doesn’t attack them when they’re at work to emphasize that that is his motivation; he doesn’t pose the bodies to communicate any kind of message to the people who find them; he doesn’t even seem to really care if they themselves get what he’s doing since he doesn’t make a point to show them his reclaimed trophy knife (he makes a point to make madison and their mother understand what he’s doing, but that’s different — the doctors were never going to be personal connections for gabriel; his blood family could have been, at least in his mind). his killings have artistic flair, but it’s self-expression without the expectation of an audience. he dresses the way he does because he must like it, since he mostly tries to avoid being seen; he creates his weapon in a way that must be satisfying to him because he hardly shows it to anyone. he kills the doctors where they live — where they feel safe — because they hurt him where he lives and should have felt safe, not because murders done in a kitchen, bed, or bathtub have any particular meaning to anybody else who might see them. anybody else seeing them (other than madison) is irrelevant.
