i wish people (even in the mental health field) would acknowledge that trauma doesn't necessarily have to be an extreme, earth shattering horrifying event in order to affect us. we forget that we are gentle animals. have you ever stopped to think that maybe you being picked last for kickball every time was traumatic? have you thought about the fact that you internalized false messages that you aren't good enough, you aren't athletic, you aren't desirable because of moments like that? nobody acknowledges that seemingly insignificant points in our lives like this in childhood development can be traumatic! and so we grow and we live our whole lives with these ideas in our heads and they aren't recognized because maybe they aren't "shocking enough" to be treated, maybe they aren't taken seriously. but they should be. they really really really need to be.
tryna come up with a good text post like

A very beautiful image of these smiley blackfoot. It seemed everything was alright…
Photograph by Mary T. S. Schaffer in 1907.
I just love how humanizing this is, it’s the first time I’ve seen us not depicted as the stoic archetype of this period
Pictured here are Sampson, Frances Louise, and Leah Beaver who actually were very close friends with the photographer and were regular subjects of her work. It’s amazing what happens when you view us as people rather than museum objects - you capture us as people, as friends, as lovers, as parents rather than the stoic image of genocide and colonialism in-progress.
If you’re interested in learning more about female photographers and how they aided in representing native peoples through positive representation and ethical photography, I would suggest reading “Trading Gazes.” Mary T.S. Schaffer and other influential female photographers, and friends, of native peoples are given some much-needed recognition in this book while also discussing the white woman’s place in our genocide and colonization.
Faris, a Syrian roses seller boy who was killed by an air strike. So people decided to draw a picture of him upon a building wall in Germany to keep his memory alive.
