I don’t think Lisa McGee is firing herself for writing James and Erin kissing considering James and Erin are based on her and her husband and it is her semi-autobiographical story.

Honestly I had no idea. I went into it blind (just cause I've been reading up a lot on the troubles recently) on Netflix and assumed it was an original because I've been seeing it there for so long. That makes it more interesting.

Still I feel that's the one part of the show that makes no sense at all and was not built up to. Just a process of elimination cause he's Michelle's cousin, Clare is gay, and Orla is in her own little world. Maybe i missed something but i don't think the dance was enough proof. Thx for the info though

I do not tolerate even a smidgeon of Pippa or Kitsey hate and actually in my mind they are besties bonding over having to deal with Theo.

We're not gonna fall into the mysoginistic pipeline of "But she's in the way!". It's a lot more complex than that. Theo is obsessed with Pippa because of their shared trauma. Theo is the only one in the way of Boreo happening because that man was ready to drop anything as soon as Theo said the word.

As for Kitsey, she's victim to a system that forces women to choose their partners based on social status rather than true love. Also she's in her early 20s, let the poor girl breathe.

Something that has been pissing me off lately in the context of fandoms and really just any social media platform is that male friendship is literally inexistent. It HAS to be a gay ship. And I'm not talking about fanfics, like go ahead and go crazy shipping as much as you want (so long as it's not real people, that's kinda weird). But I think we've also begun to loose some media literacy as well as respect for actual people.

My example for this are dudes on social media just hanging out, maybe being vulnerable with one another and admitting to it, or even just being close. Then you got some weirdo in the comments yelling"Yaoi hahaha". That's just not even remotely funny and it reinforces an idea we have been trying to get men to pull away from for decades. We want them to be able to be vulnerable, not just to us women, but also with their own male friends without the fear of being judged or getting called gay—not that I'm implying it's an insult, it's just certainly a label they try to avoid, and that's a whole different Pandora's box I'm not gonna open right now.

Another example, one of my favorite pieces of media ever: Stand by me. Is there maybe a few hints in the book that Chris and Gordie had a little something more going on? Yeah, of course. But it was also in the first person and the one paragraph that people always refer to, something along the lines of "people must've thought we were queer" is more of self deprecating humor than any larger implication to me. I think their friendship is beautiful as it is. And it is important to have that sort of example for boys as to what healthy masculinity and friendship looks like.

Framing it as romantic attraction almost implies that you should only be vulnerable with your partner and only be nice to them and not your own friends. That's not a good lesson to take away is all I'm saying.

I just wish platonic relationships were as appreciated and developed as romantic ones. If we keep going the way we're going were just gonna get stuck on this loop where men don't talk to anyone about what goes on in their heads and only feed into each other's toxic masculinity or genuinely suffer mentally because they have no one to go to. I just feel this shipping and all these "jokes" have a much larger implication than just having a laugh by yourself. It's just harmful.
