i love the thought of Rocky incorporating one or more of the teeth Grace inevitably loses to scurvy into his carapace because it’s the best material for it, but i wanna take the thought further. if he incorporates the teeth, how would other eridians react to that? that he chooses a body part specifically made for eating? would they think it was touching or vulgar, maybe frightening — would they consider it body horror?

also if Grace dies on eridian soil — would Rocky take some of his skeleton and keep it with him? either as part of him or with him in his home. i’m thinking of the neolithic Çatalhöyük practice of domestic burials, where you bury a skull or a skeleton inside the home, often beneath the floor, or bury only the skeleton but keep the skull on display. or ossuaries, for that matter. Grace’s life is so short in comparison; would Rocky want to keep some part of him with him forever?

okay, I am a full believer that Ryland Grace is aroace, but I had a thought.

when Grace and Rocky make it to Erid and Grace meets Adrian, Adrian realizes just how obsessed and codependent Rocky and Grace are. Then Adrian has to sit down with Rocky to talk about his odd tastes, because Rocky being incredibly normal (sarcastic) about Grace would be our equivalent of finding out your husband is a monsterfucker, but he actually has access to said monster and is now constantly talking about it.
