Daily Beauty Practices and How to Achieve Them: Part 1
Thankfully we are in a time where beauty is often associated with health. This means that a lot of things that will improve the look of your skin and body are going to help you live a healthier life. We know most of these things but we have a problem actually carrying them out. Here are most of the things you should be trying to check off your list each day and some ways you can try to turn New Year’s Resolutions into genuine life changes.
1. Drink lots of water
If you already do this, kudos to you. I have a problem drinking water every day so I do a couple of things to make sure I’m staying healthy: I fill a glass with lukewarm water and have it first thing as I wake up in the morning. In addition I fill a bottle with ice and water and take it around during the day. When it’s right next to me, it becomes a habit to just lift it to my mouth. This one doesn’t work as well: I try to order water with meals instead of a drink or soda. Years of habit tends to mean I just order the more delicious and often cheaper alternative.
The Science
Your body is made up of 60% Water. One of the functions of your skin is to protect and prevent excess fluid loss. When your body gets dehydrated it begins to absorb the water it needs from wherever it can get it. That includes your skin: "Dehydration makes your skin look drier and wrinkled, which can be improved with proper hydration," says Atlanta dermatologist Kenneth Ellner, MD. When you are running low on water your body will tell you. Listen to those cues.

2. Breakfast
There’s this idea now that there’s no wrong or right time to eat breakfast, as long as it’s in the morning! (It’s no longer breakfast after noon) So don’t try to force something that doesn’t fit your lifestyle. I don’t and can’t eat as soon as I wake up and many health advocates are beginning to say, ‘don’t worry’. The idea is to make that first meal the biggest one for the day.
Breakfast doesn’t have to be any specific foods. Pick things to carry to work in the morning while you’re in the supermarket, if you know you’re one of those people who can’t find the time to cook in the morning.
The Science
"People skip breakfast thinking they're cutting calories, but by mid-morning and lunch, that person is starved," says Milton Stokes, RD, MPH, chief dietician for St. Barnabas Hospital in New York City. "Breakfast skippers replace calories during the day with mindless nibbling, bingeing at lunch and dinner. They set themselves up for failure."
Eating breakfast is a daily habit for 78% of the "successful losers". The bigger the breakfast you eat in the morning, the less likely you are to overeat later in the day.

3. Clean, Tone and Moisturize
For a lot of us the air and water we contend with on a daily basis is not good for the skin. They are aging us and our skin needs help fending off the ill-effects of the environment. This is one of the reasons that beauty experts sing the “cleanse, tone moisturize” song over and over again. Good skin is healthy skin and healthy skin looks better with makeup on it than unhealthy skin.
Put the three bottles of the items you need and put them right next to the sink so you can do your routine as you’re getting into the shower or stick them in the shower caddy. For me, my skin feels weird if I haven’t done my routine, because it has become such a part of my life.
The Science
Cleansing is required to remove most of the dirt of the day. Toning removes dead skin, additional impurities and prepares the skin for any treatments you use including moisturizer. But, you need to make sure the products you use are right for your skin. Take the time to read the label. Someone with oily skin should not be using the same products as someone with dry skin. Moisturizing your skin begins with hydrating by drinking water.

4. Replace Bad Habits with Healthy Ones
Smoking, drinking alcohol, greasy foods and processed sugars all come out on your skin. We already know this. Instead focus on getting more things that you like. If you tend to pick up packs of snickers, grab bags of fruits you like more. I like otaheite apples more than almost anything. I buy them whenever I can. When you focus less on cutting down bad habits and more on building good ones, you find it’s not as hard to drop the one that
The Science
This is about changing bad habits. Barack Obama insists on never wearing anything but blue and gray suits. According to the president, “I’m trying to pare down decisions. I don’t want to make too many decisions about what I’m eating or wearing. Because I have too many other decisions to make.” The president’s belief is well supported by the research. According to the Harvard Business Review, if you want to maintain long term discipline, it’s best to “Identify the aspects of your life that you consider mundane — and then ‘routinize’ those aspects as much as possible. In short, make fewer decisions.”
Creating sticky habits is far easier when we make use of our current routines, instead of trying to fight them. This tactic involves picking a regular part of your schedule and then building another “link in the chain” by adding a new habit. Multiple studies confirm this to be a successful method to rely on contextual cues over willpower. So the next time you decide to “eat healthier,” instead try “If it is lunch time, then I will only eat meat and vegetables.” (99u)

We too support comity among women and sisterhood over bitterness: Love. Reggae. Music. Jamaica
I hope to show you guys much more from our partnership with Shuga Music. We did a test run with her for a BBC1extra show which will be airing soon. (A pic from that is on our instagram page: instagram.com/eyeampatoo.)
The main show was Rebel Salute 2015! I was inspired by her music in designing her suit. She wanted it to be trendy, of course, but also to show strength and pay homage to Rastafari African heritage. We did her makeup too!

Get the Most Out of Your Homemade Facial
The best way to get the most out of all the aloe vera, banana, green tea and avocado scrubs and masks you enjoy concocting is to use them the right way. These are the steps the professionals use, and theses are the ones you need to recreate at home.
1. Cleanse
Before you can start the deep clean, you need to get all of the surface dirt off of your face. Pull your hair back and scrub all the way up to your hairline and around your jawline. Remove all your makeup and then give your face a once over with your regular face wash, using a washcloth or just your hands. I prefer to use a washcloth because it makes me feel cleaner. Remember to follow up with a toner.
2. Steam.
You can use the steam from a pot of just boiled water. Remember to be careful with that heat. I always pour the water into a smaller bowl and keep it on a waiter. I love to add a green tea bag or lemon (because I have oily skin so lemon feature big in my home remedies. And it works!) Steam for about five minutes.
3. Exfoliate
Work all the way up into your hairline, and don't forget the areas around your jaw line and behind your ears where oil tends to build up. The purpose of the scrub is to remove dead skin, and to loosen up dirt and congested pores, which lead to pimples and blackheads. When you're finished, rinse with lukewarm water and pat your skin dry with soft towel.
4.Extractions.
The key to successfully doing your own extractions is not to squeeze too hard, and to make sure your fingers don't touch the area that you're squeezing in order to keep finger bacteria away from open pores. You can use a magnifying mirror to locate areas that seem to be concentrated with pimples and blackheads. Even if you're not prone to acne, you're likely to see some in the T-zone, which consists of your forehead, nose and chin. I use cotton to help keep my fingers away from my skin. Place your fingers about a half inch apart and facing each other, then, gently apply pressure, squeezing ever so slightly. You never want to pinch or gouge an area, because you'll end up leaving it puffy and swollen. And you never want to force something out. Once you've finished, swab the areas with witch hazel or other astringent or toner to remove any bacteria and encourage your pores to close back up.
5. Mask
Apply a mask and have a lie-down. Masks are intended to tone and clarify to your skin. Be sure to choose a mask specifically made for your skin type, and remember that you've just given your skin a workout, so err on the side of a soothing formulation. Dampen your skin first, and then apply a thin layer of mask all over your face and down your neck, avoiding your delicate eye area. Lie down, apply cucumber slices or steeped chamomile teabags over your eyes, (which are great for de-puffing that area) and relax for about 20 minutes. Gently remove the mask using warm wet washcloths, and apply a toner to get off any additional residue.
6. Moisturize
The final step is to treat that fresh, clean skin to a nice moisturizing treatment. Choose your favorite moisturizer or face cream and massage it onto your face and décolleté using upward strokes. Then it's time to go forth and glow!
Once you've got your process down go ahead and enjoy the fullness of blogger suggestions. Just remember to drink lots of water, exercise 2-3 times a week and cleanse, tone and moisturize everyday.

Natural Hair and Colour and Products for breakage/HAIR CHAT
This post is meant to go with the video on the eyeampatoo YouTube Channel of the same name.
For my hair, I use the LCO method, in which I use a cream and the an oil on wet hair. I do not use heat. I only and I use a protein treatment every 4-6weeks.
This is what I do now, that I'm trying to restore my hair so I can get back to colouring it again (and hopefully this time I'll be responsible again.)
Of course, I only comb my hair out while it has conditioner in it to avoid unnecessary breakage, I condition/co-wash weekly and I use a sulfate-free shampoo once a month.
I have seen my hair transform from breaking every time i touch it to almost none, as it had been before I started colouring.
So here are the products I used:

6 Reasons A Bride Needs A Makeup Artist
6. Get the Royal Treatment! Let Yourself Be Pampered!
You do your makeup everyday (if you wear makeup, that is). On your special day, you need to feel like a celebrity, queen, princess, or whichever the fantasy is. Nothing feels like having a professional cater to your every whim. When else will someone be paid to put your makeup? So much will be about Y-O-U, on this day you need to be treated like the princess you are!
5. You Don't Need One More Thing to Stress About
That's simple. A bride has so many concerns. Do you need one more? Did you remember setting spray? Is this the right shade? Was the mascara waterproof? A professional MUA is used to stressed out brides and is a pro at calming her worries. You get a consultation AND a trial before the day, so that noting is left up to chance. You know you are going to be perfect on the day, because just like you've seen the dress you're going to wear, you've seen the makeup you'll have too.
4. Think about the Photos
Your wedding photos will last longer than a lifetime. Makeup for photography is a skill in and of itself. From preventing oily skin to getting touch ups as needed, your MUA is your key to enviably flawless photos.
3. Look the Best Version of You
You know what you want and your taste is infinitely important. However, a professional can guide you towards the look that not only fits what you expect to look like, but what brings out the beauty you have. You may have a tonne of styles you've seen and want to try out, but your professional MUA knows that you don't need full gloss on ladies with big lips or that you can't do a heavy smokey look on eyes that are tiny. When your pro is done tastefully accentuating all the most beautiful features of your face you won't believe your eyes.
2. Get Expert Advice
What kind of skin do you have? What kind of treatment will you need? How do you prevent pimples before the big day? Let us tell you everything you need to know about making sure your look is flawless. That gorgeous face comes with a lot of information you simply would not have been getting otherwise. When your momma auntie best friend from college cousin does your makeup, (unless your momma auntie best friend from college cousin is a pro) you're missing out! Your MUA will always give you additional information and often it's information you'll be using well past your wedding day.
1. A Pro is a Pro
Your Makeup Artist has experience and knowledge about each step of the process that you do not have simply because he or she has dedicated time and effort to studying makeup and is good at it. During that time, you have been studying something else. Chances are, you are good at what you do and you know the nuances of your job. There are mistakes a newbie will make that you could never even imagine making. It's the same thing here. This is a chance to showcase you at your best. Leave it to the best. Don't have a physician build your house. Don't let your gym instructor do your taxes. (insert you job title), don't do your own makeup on your wedding day.
#Tip: Buy in Bulk
Does the wedding photographer have a makeup artist he/she normally works with? Get someone who does more than one thing, like a makeup artist and hairstylist in one. Or get someone that comes with a team, especially for large weddings. Package prices tend to be much more affordable prices.

the 3 Ladies Wearing Makeup in the Room
I am now offering makeup consultations. In light of this I have decided to discuss very briefly: the three kinds of made up faces we tend to see when we go out: 1. the Clown. The Clown has little or no experience with makeup and each attempt to wear makeup feels awkward and uncomfortable for her and the people around her. You tell your friend to take a picture of you with her in the background so you can put it on Instagram, most likely with some clever comment like "Jesus take the brush". 2. the Novice. She has mastered some makeup techniques but does not necessarily pair techniques well and still has some misconceptions about what suits her features. You think she looks good but something is off, right? 3. the Pro. Cue the hallelujah chorus, complete with doves and slo-mo reel. Brows are even, highlights are blended, maybe she's not even wearing makeup. She's too perfect for words. Every time you see her you wish her makeup kit would fall out of her bag so you could grab it and run... What? Just me?
And, a Personal Before and After, just for the fun of it...
