Iâve met a lot of people in my time RPing, and Iâve met a lot of people who are very insecure over their roleplay and get a lot of hate for it. So!
Noble roleplayers, whether your house is an entirely original idea or inspired by something else
Roleplayers who use titles like âHighlordâ or âArchmageâ ICly
Roleplayers whose characters are âtropesâ like the suave rogue woman or the honorable handsome knight
Those who roleplay controversial things, like Scarlets and criminals
Those who enjoy dark roleplay, in whatever flavor that comes in for you
Those who used to be really good at roleplaying, then something happened and you feel like you canât hold a candle to how you used to be
Those who prefer to roleplay background characters like a blacksmith or a cook rather than an adventurer
Those who are new and still learning the ropes
Those who roleplay LGBTQ+ characters
Those who roleplay non-white characters and constantly have to defend as to if itâs âlore friendly,â
Those who roleplay having a personal relationship with a major lore character, or having an artifact ICly
Those who follow lore to a t
Those who stretch loreÂ
Those who disregard lore all together and write their own original stories within the game
Roleplayers who try to be as practical as possible when it comes to combat, weapons and armor
Roleplayers who prefer to take the more fantastical route, entering battle bare-legged and with a weapon as big as they are

All of you. Your roleplay is just fine. Roleplay what makes you happy, youâll find people who are into the same stuff that you are.
Roleplayers who are not fine and need some juice and a time out:
Those who make anyone feel like theyâre lesser or deserving of hate because of how they roleplay
Those who roleplay having a personal relationship with a major lore character, or having an artifact ICly
Those who stretch lore
Those who disregard lore all together and write their own original stories within the game Sure, you CAN do those things if you want to. BUT, you also have no place to get massively butthurt and whiny when everybody else tells you that your idea is dumb and they donât want to RP with you. Oh, youâre a Chua Luminai whoâs married to an Augmented Aurin matriarch, who is the secret child of Victor Lazarin and a tree? Sure you can RP that. Over there⌠Away from us.
I agree with Neffelo.. I dont support lore breaking and mary sues. Public forum rp (like on MMOs) mean youre going to get criticism whether you like it or not. I suggest taking the common denominator of those criticisms both negative and positive and perhaps self reflecting to grow as a writer - rather than stagnate like this post essentially makes you do by shutting out outside opinion. I used to rp super gary stu characters, through criticism by friendly or aggressive writers I grew as a writer exponentially. Why? I didnt take it personally, I looked at myself and what I was writing and said, âCan I really be proud of this?â Or âWould this character/concept be taken as seriously as well known characters like Harry Potter or Aragorn? Like Luke Skywalker or Spiderman?â If I couldnt look at everything that was my character/writing and confidently say âYes!â I reworked it til it did or asked friends or strangers for input.
This is such a good point from neffelo/captain-gallowsfall. At the end of the day, you do you, but Iâm also free to establish my own set of RP values and make judgement calls on who I think are good RPers and prioritize them as RP partners. Â
I also think thereâs something to be said for common decency in what is essentially a public RP format, and pulling stunts like RPing as a major canon character just strikes me as rude and attention seeking quite frankly, and I donât have to engage with it or approve of it. Â
