It’s hard to be offended when white people jokes involve bland food/tourist dads in socks and sandals/white girls in yoga pants obsessed with pumpkin spice/suburban PTA moms and other harmless and mostly true stereotypes while jokes about POC involve them being called thugs/criminals/slurs/uneducated/illegal immigrants.

The Disintegrating Sculptures of Valerie Hegarty

Much of the draw of Hegarty’s work is in its initial shock, yet rather than just a bunch of plastic plants manically pasted to an unremarkable painting, there is a thoughtfulness in the mayhem. In her last exhibition at the Nicelle Beauchene Gallery in 2010, Cosmic Collisions, Hegarty took replicas of famous paintings and crumbled them as if they were entering a black hole, and this natural mutilation in “Figures, Flowers, Fruit” is also conscious of what it is destroying, giving exaggerated life to the still lifes, which were painted to convey vitality through tranquility.

In different ways, all three exhibitions are worth spending time with, to let your eyes pull your mind beyond that first impression into the intricacies of the art, where details and perspectives that might otherwise have been overlooked suddenly emerge into consciousness. Source: hyperallergic

I’ve actually studied a lot about Hitler and the general formula that goes into the making of a genocide. Someone on my Facebook today said “Trump is just trying to define what it means to be an American” and it sent chills through me. Hitler was just trying to define what it meant to be German. And Turkey in the early 1900s was trying to define what it meant to be Turkish. Which was a large part of the Armenian genocide. Intense nationalism that leads to hatred is fucking scary, and this man is definitely a threat. I’m sure people don’t believe that Trump could order the same things to happen as Hitler did, but here’s the thing: there are two different schools of thought about the Holocaust. And that is that it was premeditated and the other is that it just built up. It was either his plan all along or the atrocities developed with time. Hitler didn’t begin his career with “burn the Jews” he began it with “re-empower Germany and deport the weaker non-Germans who are a threat to us.”

The Confusing Life Of Bob The Bee Cleaner (C) Daryl Toh Liem Zhan 2013.

Bob hates bees ever since his beloved dog Scott was killed by a swarm two years ago. Because of that, he’s in a conflicted dilemma of quitting his job in a secret government lab, cleaning cat-size bees (with cat personalities due to DNA experiments).

When he was ordered to end the life of one of the bees that was a failed experiment (due to it being confused itself thinking he’s a dog), Bob reluctantly takes it back home instead and care for it as a pet.
