Am I the only one who doesn't "get" hugs? Like I don't hate them but I don't like them either. I know a lot of people find them comforting and I love that they let those people connect with others, I just don't have that same feeling. But on the other hand I know a lot of people viscerally hate hugs and I'm not there either. I'm just awkwardly kind of neutral in the middle ish about them.

Can we please stop saying being autistic is miserable
There's this thing I've been noticing on the internet, specifically whispers that say things like this:
''Omg autism so silly quirky yippee autismcore!''
''Autism is a very serious disorder that make living for autistic people harder''
And like, yes they're right, I also don't really like it when NEUROTYPICAL people see autism as some silly disorder. But I often wonder, are the people who say stuff like ''silly autism'' just neurotypicals mocking us, or are they autistic kids that want to express themselves? The first one definitely does happen, yes, and we should indeed educate those neurotypical people on how autism is more complicated than that. But if it's just a just diagnosed kid that wants to have fun, is it really necessary to tell them how autism is a big struggle? (it mostly pisses me off when the people who make whispers like that are neurotypical themselves, cause then they have literally no say in this)
It kinda reminds me of those ''autism moms'' who get upset when someone talks about how they're glad they're autistic, because they're ''glorifying it''.
So I'm just gonna come out and say it; yes, being autistic can definitely be hard for me sometimes, yes, I experience meltdowns, yes, sometimes I wish I was neurotypical.
But being autistic isn't always miserable, this depends on the person of course, but I'm actually quite happy that I'm autistic, cause yeah, there's some bad things, but there are also good things that I wouldn't change even if my life depended on it. Idk but I think we need more autism positivity, y'know, so that those kids who just got diagnosed can at least enjoy something. Let people be proud of being autistic, even if they show it in a cringe way, especially if they show it in a cringe way.
Well said. I fully believe there is nothing "wrong" with me for being autistic. I just have different needs that I want to learn to accommodate. And honestly this journey has elated me because it feels good to understand things; to name things that I've always done or thought but never had the words to describe. If I can name a thing, I can understand it so much better.
Yeah there are sucky parts. Yeah I'm frustrated with having to live in a world that isn't built for me. But being undiagnosed for 36 years and finally finding the thing that lets me know myself so perfectly has been an absolute joy, and I hope others can know this feeling of satisfaction too; this feeling that not only are you not broken, but that you're not alone either.
Get yourself a fabric store that will light your fabric on fire for you
No but legit I asked what the fiber content of something was and the guy didn’t know so he cut a chunk off and lit it on fire and felt the ashes and was like. Yeah this is mostly cotton with a lil bit of silk. And that was the moment I knew. This is it. This is the fabric store for me. Also that guy is marriage material. Not for me but damn some person is gonna be so happy with him.
Ok but this is actually one of the easiest ways to tell what something is made of! I did a textiles degree and one day as part of a class we all went outside with a pile of scrap fabric and set fire to the little pieces and recorded how they burned. We were given a chart that looked something like this to tell what each fabric was (it gets a little tricky is it’s a mix of fabrics though). Why did we do this? There is very little regulation in the textiles industry so a lot of materials are mislabelled as something they aren’t and sold for more than they should be, also sometimes people buy fabric second hand or discounted which doesn’t have any label at all. If you have a fabric you are having doubts about, cut a tiny piece off and do the burn test and you should know pretty fast what you are dealing with. Anyways your fabric store should be lighting things on fire because this means that they are actually checking what the fabrics are and aren’t trying to pass cheap stuff off as more expensive than it is.
Ooh! I knew it was a standard test but I hadn’t seen a chart as detailed as this thank you!
Oh this is actually really cool! It never occurred to me that this was something you could do.

Spread their names!
Engineers between 19 and 24, most linked to Musk’s companies, are playing a key role as he seizes control of federal infrastructure.
elon is really mad about this so it would be a shame if people kept spreading the names around
