ok sorry still mad about people misinterpreting a certain Plot Point in the tadc finale so. under the cut
"oh so the trans character kills herself??? this show is transphobic" JESUS CHRIST YOU PEOPLE ARE INSANE. Jax repressed himself to the point of abstraction, then Pomni finds a way to reach him even through his broken mental state, and the gang puts him in a safe and comfortable blanket fort where s/he can relax and get his senses back in order without hurting himself or others. The other abstractions get to be seen being happy and at peace. No it's not IDEAL but it's basically like having a mental break that just needs some care and attention instead of Cellar. We do not see any Abstractions get fixed but the episode does leave it open-ended as to how much they will one day be able to be reached, and the characters have eternity to figure it out. Jax finally opens up to Pomni in that headspace and it's far from impossible she can still talk to him in this state.
it's also not like Jax is the only trans/queer character. Zooble is nonbinary/genderqueer and makes it through the entire show, is given emotional depth and weight to their own dysphoria and character struggles, and then gets to end the show with their human self opening a successful (implied) queer bar and their digital self having epic gay sex!! (entire theater cheered and clapped at that btw)
like. look me in the eyes. do you think that a trans woman show creator would write a trans woman character just to kill her out of malice?? like do you think she was maybe trying to say something with the abstractions and Jax's repression and the fact there is still hope and time for him and his human self?? are we operating on this level of media literacy or are we just looking for things to get mad at
"i saw the tv glow is transphobic bc the main character never comes out"-ass thinking
Digital circus' biggest problem is that it was written to be a niche show aimed at weird analytical queers with actual media literacy and it accidentally blew tf up and hit the mainstream and a bunch of people who have never had a second thought about anything got into it
This show isn't for people who watch marvel movies it's for the people doing 3 hour video essays about Utena or some shit
Digital circus: hey let's discuss existentialism, what makes someone human, how to cope with loss and regret, and the hedgehog's dilemma. you've all read I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, right?
Digital circus audience: what
I have so many thoughts about digital circus (and very very vague spoilers ahead), but the main one is that everyone else is wrong and it was actually very good when you think beyond the most basic surface level interpretation of "it focused on a character that's mean and I don't like, so it was bad."
so I had thoughts about a potential bloodymary fic (and other people may have already done this) but idk if I'll get around to writing it properly (and it's been awhile and I don't remember the exact pacing of iron lung), so this is what I have:
Grace is on his way home when the quiet rapture happens. He gets picked up by the COI who quickly realize that Grace and his research can be incredibly valuable to them. Grace earns higher and higher clearance, eventually learning about the conviction realization program. Obviously, the idea of forcibly sending convicts on suicide missions doesn't sit well with him, and he demands to know if there are any missions currently ongoing. They tell him that there is a mission currently (Simon's), but they refuse to abort mission and bring Simon back to the surface. They do, however, give Grace access to the comms, and Grace spends hours just talking to Simon, learning about his past, trying to comfort him as best he can. Until the comms disconnect.
Meanwhile, Simon doesn't trust Grace initially. But he is so isolated and desperate for any kind of human connection, any evidence that the world can be good, and he can't help but connect with Grace, especially when he explains his own story of being sent on a suicide mission and making it out alive. And Grace asks his name. For the first time in a very long time, someone cares about who he is as a person, not just what he can do for them. And then the comms disconnect.
So they're both freaking out, Grace trying to get the comms back online and Simon trying to survive The Horrors, and it all culminates in Grace going down in the sub to save Simon (instead of Ava, I apologize profusely to my beloved girlboss). And I'm undecided if it's successful or not, I think there's a case to be made for either option (Grace meets the same fate as Ava and the film ends the same, or Grace manages to rescue Simon and the future is just a bit more hopeful) and I'd need to actually write the thing to know which works better.
I am once again thinking about space yaoi, and the implications of the stars being eaten in PHM and gone in Iron Lung... imagine being Grace, having risked his life several times over just to save the stars of Earth & Erid, only for it to ultimately fail?! idk how it would thematically fit with the story I want to tell, but it is definitely making me insane
People are forgetting the funniest option of James Ortiz discovering bloodymary

guys. the implication is that there are multiple universes. the finale canonizes AUs. because if god can make a new universe on a whim, who's to say she hasn't done it before and won't do it again? the finale means every AU could be canon. the finale makes it canon that there are multiple universes and they end up together in every one (even ones that end); and yes it's immensely upsetting that the universe we knew and loved ended (and my therapist will be hearing about this), but this finale opens the door for infinite other universes to fall in love with, and in every single one of them, Aziraphale and Crowley will end up together.
so I watched the good omens finale and I have some Thoughts... (spoilers below the cut)
First and foremost, I think that regardless of whether or not the ending was good, it is undeniably better than leaving the S2 ending as the end of the series. I don't think that the finale is what I would have done, but it does at least have a more hopeful resolution that speaks more to the themes of the show than the final 15. That said, in my mind, season 1 is the canon story and the rest is supplemental.
I think that it was good for what it is; the pacing was insane and there were definitely a few too many things that they tried to do, but that's the nature of this particular situation.
The ending itself was fine, I saw a couple of headcanons that I like: that they will get some of their memories back in the form of dreams and the like, and that once they die, they become their angelic/demonic selves again because God likes to play games. I think that I want to keep the finale (alongside S2) in the same corner of my brain as AUs and fics, and in doing so I can enjoy it a lot more.
Overall, I liked it. I think it was very flawed and felt even more disconnected from S1 (very focused on heaven/hell and not really connected to Earth in any meaningful way, plus the tone/comedy felt very different), but I did enjoy it and I am glad we got it.
Also, Aziraphale's one question to God being "Why give me Crowley? Why make me complete and then take it away?" was cruel and unusual punishment for me who lost my own Crowley, and I cried my eyes out.
honestly i think genloss is one of the most of-the-times media of the 2020s. the way that it combines rampant decaying nostalgia both in the set design and the borrowing of images from other media like saw and the truman show with a sense that all forms of rebellion have already been co-opted by capital and a constant pressing reminder of surveillance on all fronts and just absolute absurdity periodically all feel very encapsulating of the times. it's on the pulse of a lot of cultural anxieties.
Alright gang here's the deal. TADC's finale being in cinemas 2 weeks before YouTube is unfortunate for people who cannot make it to the cinemas you know there is gonna be that one person who tries their best to spoil it for everyone, so I'm gonna need everyone here to LOCK IN and SPAM all of Twitter, all of Tumblr, all of THE INTERNET with as many fake spoilers as you can starting June 4th. I wanna see "WHAT DO YOU MEAN FUNNYBUNNY IS CANON???" "I cried when Ragatha abstracted 😭" I wanna see "I can't believe bubble really was the final villain" I WANNA SEE "THE THEORIES WERE RIGHT?!?!" EVERYWHERE. Will some of them be accidentally true? Maybe. But the feed will be too full of fake spoilers that it will not matter at all. This is a call to action to every fan who's been watching for years. It's your time to act.
June 4th till June 19th The Fake Spoilerning Will Commence
go forth and fake spoil

Curse of the passenger princess is one of the funniest curses ever seen in jet lag, largely due to how Ben immediately acts like he's been lobotomized and starts giddily commenting on all sorts of mundane things like purple fences, apples an incline being fun to run down all the while Adam is audibly puffed, strategizing and fighting with the dice to get through the impenetrable fog.
All leading to the moment where Ben sees Sam and like someone truly under a curse ands know they are but can't go against it stares, directly into Sam's soul before having to leave.
‘IRON LUNG' bts
I just saw Iron Lung in theaters and damn they really pull a hadestown on you. Like you know how the story ends, but you still watch it hoping MAYBE it will turn out differently.
I made a thing! I can't draw for shit, but I loved this idea and wanted to make a funky little collage!
