When I gave up everything, I shouldn’t have meant “everything”. I gave up my old memories, my wilting emotions and my withering smiles in exchange for a new life without knowing what’s in store for me. I had only heard promises; words that made me believe in magic. What a fool I was to have traded something I had for something I thought I would have. After all, magic isn’t real. It’s only a trick. Isn’t it? But not all was lost, for when I embarked on this unknown new path, I made new friends: Resentment, guilt and emptiness.
When I watched the half empty cup, I quickly realized it’s also half full. Well, we all know the half empty, half full story, but what I also noticed was that I never really sipped from it. I was so scared of fully emptying it. I wouldn’t drink from it anymore. Not even the bare minimum because what if I empty everything beautiful? I wanted to treasure it, keep it so close, always. I stopped setting boundaries. I let everything in, just to make it full. In this entire process of taking and giving, I forgot that the cup is me. It might be old, stained and imperfect but it’s me. I was responsible for what I was filling it up with. Needless to say, I did eventually run out of everything and the cup was finally fully empty. But it’s better to be empty than full of poison. Isn’t it? I can always fill it up with something beautiful again.

You don’t create a life you want by thinking big; but by doing small things that matter every single day and making the most of what you have in the toughest of situations. Resilience is underrated.
