why argue about whether star trek or star wars is better when the truth is right there. itâs galaxy quest.Â
So I just now learned about Stagecoach Mary and how have I never heard of this absolute LEGEND of a woman before
She was born a slave and freed when the Emancipation Proclamation was issued (she was about 30)
She was about six feet tall and 200 pounds and once she was free she decided sheâd never take shit from anyone ever again
When one of her close friends, a nun by the name of Mother Amadeus, became ill with pneumonia at her convent in Montana, Mary headed alone into the frontier to nurse Mother Amadeus back to health
After Mother Amadeus recovered, she gave Mary a job as the foreman of the convent. She repaired buildings, took care of chickens, made the long and dangerous journeys into town for supplies, and did other odd jobs.
She could drink most men under the table, and one saloon offered five bucks and a free shot of whiskey to any man who could take a punch to the face from Mary and remain standing.Â
She was once said by a local paper to have broken more noses than anyone else in Montana
She was outspokenly Republican, which at this time was the liberal party in America, and would get into political debates with the more conservative townsfolk
One time a man insulted her outside the saloon so hit him in the face with a rock, and only stopped when other cowboys held her back.
On one supply run into town, her wagon overturned and the horses fled. Mary spent all night single-handedly fending off a pack of wolves with her guns before she righted the heavy wagon by herself and tracked down the spooked horses. The only thing lost in the accident was a jar of molasses.
She lost her job at the convent when she got into a gunfight with a male employee who did not want to take orders from a black woman. She reportedly shot him in the ass, which angered the local bishop.
After losing her convent job, Mary spent a brief time running a restaurant, where she welcomed and served all comers
When a job for a mail carrier opened at the local US Post Office, Mary got the job because she managed to hitch six horses to a wagon faster than any of the male candidates
She was sixty at the time
This made her the first black woman mail carrier, and the second woman mail carrier in US history
When the snows were too deep for the horses to manage the long and dangerous delivery routes, Mary would strap on snowshoes, put the bags of mail on her shoulders, and do it herself
At one point she apparently had a pet eagle????
She only retired from the mail route when she was about 70 years old, and instead made a quieter living by babysitting and running a laundry business in the town of Cascade
She was a huge baseball fan and often gave the local team a big bouquet of flowers from her garden
The people of Cascade loved Mary so much that they closed the schools annually on her birthday
When a law was passed in Montana that forbade women from drinking in saloons, the mayor of Cascade granted Mary an exemption.Â
When her house burned down, the whole town got together to help her build a new one
She continued drinking, fighting, and going to baseball games until she died of liver failure at 82 in 1914

Anyway sorry for gushing I just now heard about her and Iâm in love
Iâve heard of her, but godDAMN, if her story doesnât bear repeating. ^w^
She has her own wikipedia page. Enjoy.
WOOOOO, This is my new babe :)

âIt hurts to live in the world. You canât escape that. You canât run or hide from the pain that the universe has set aside for you. You can only face it, as best you can.â
Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell, the real life Elsa and Anna
What do you want? âCause youâve been keeping me awake. Are you here to distract me so I make a big mistake? Or are you someone out there whoâs a little bit like me? Who knows deep down Iâm not where Iâm meant to be? Everydayâs a little harder as I feel my power grow. Donât you know thereâs part of me that longs to go⌠Into the unknown! Are you out there? Do you know me? Can you feel me? Can you show me? Where are you going? Donât leave me alone! How do I follow you? INTO THE UNKNOWN!

call me ignorant but i genuinely donât understand why sports have to be split up by gender.
@ everyone in the notes talking about physical performance: if that were the case, then sports would be divided by physical performance. thatâs a thing you can measure. thatâs a thing that varies by individual. a weak man and a strong man would be an unfair fight in boxing/wrestling/MMA, which is why they divide those sports up into weight groups based on physical performance. but they also further segregate them based on gender. chess is segregated by gender for no reason but sexism. if itâs actually about skill and physical ability, then measure those and separate people by those metrics. donât do some bullshit gender segregation and pretend like men and women are inherently on different levels no matter their individual abilities.
Remember that time a teenage girl struck out Babe Ruth? Thatâs fucking why. Men are afraid of being beaten by women.
Remember that time male swimmers were pulled out of training because Kate Ledecky was leaving them âbrokenâ by swimming better than them? Remember how she didnât even notice, because she was busy actually training?
Shooting is a sport that has no reliance on strength and so any allowance for gender variation is irrelevant. The last time there was a mixed competition (1992) a chinese woman named Zhang Shan won it.
Itâs often presented as for the benefit of women. After all, theyâll be heartbroken when theyâre hurt or bested by men.
Projection is a hell of a drug.Â
this is why they drug test Serena like crazy. the believe no woman should be that good. let alone a black woman. and black women have always been considered âmanlyâ and less feminine.
also can we talk about how surfing is segregated as well? like how the dude who won this years international surfing cup or whatever was given $30,000 worth of prize money, while the woman who won the womenâs comp was only awarded like $16,000 of prize money???? or whatever it was. but I know it was either half or less than half of what the man won. like why canât they get the same prize money and when theyâre competing internationally in the same competition? they surely have the same level of skill and talent.
the pay gap in sports between men and women is fucking insane.
The pay gaps, not to mention lack of sponsorships for women athletes who donât look like models is insane. If you weigh over 250 pounds, no one will sponsor you. Itâs why most female Olympic-class weightlifters live in poverty/out of their cars.
What bugs me with the pay thing is like how the US womenâs soccer team kicks serious ass internationally compared to the guysâ team, and the menâs team has only won like, one championship. Womenâs team was/still is paid pennies in comparison and yet theyâre a far better team, more exciting to watch, and less drama.
Womenâs soccer is more fun to watch because you donât have them falling dramatically when they stub their toe on someoneâs cleats. A woman goes down and you know sheâs hurt. A man goes down in the game and after his dramatic wincing and what not, manages to miraculously get back to his feet and play like nothing happened.
Women are metal af in sports. Men just donât like being shown up.
remember when kara was allowed to process her anger and actually grieve for what she lost instead of repressing it and never acknowledging any of her feelings!
