oh I’m so obsessed with these spirits, their relationship with AJ is so interesting
(all names mentioned from here on out are in reference to their Flight characters rather than the content creators)
They seem to be very attatched to her, and they can’t take her form
Originally they appear as the person from AJs past, then momentarily Drift
Then they manifested as Legs, and clearly the Legs spirit didn’t like AJ
Then Graecie, but didn’t do anything
And then one I find very interesting, switching between Ambear and Drift
theres clear hints into AJs past with the first one, with her total fear of the person tying into the stuff she’s mentioned before. Part of me wonders if the spirit then switched to Drift in an attempt to calm AJ down, cuz from later interactions it seems to be (outside of the influence from the attitudes of characters it manifests as) largely positive towards her.
The Legs manifestation is interesting, however largely obvious given the not so great relationship between Legs and AJ.
I think another look at its time as Graecie would be worthwhile, because it was short, and the purpose unclear. I like to think it possibly deemed Graecie the most soothing one of the group and chose that in an attempt to persuade AJ to stop running away, it also may have sensed through Graecies mana her liking for AJ, and figured the nature of their friendship would mean AJ is unlikely to try and hit a Graecie manifestation.
The switching between Ambear and Drift is interesting, because while it’s obvious the influence behind that, it’s the first manifestation seemingly targeted at more than just AJ, feeding into Drifts possible insecurity, and whatever Ambear’s feelings are about their night together.
I also find AJs attitude towards the spirits very interesting, as following the initial encounter she seems rather unbothered by them, but also uncaring for her own life when around them (not that she is especially cautious elsewhere), as she is willing to risk punching them, and being chased by them. It just seems as though she connects with them differently than she does characters, which makes sense if they’re tied into her magic or mana.
I wonder if the reason for their inability to manifest as AJ has something to do with this, it appears they use absorbed mana to manifest as people, and my theory is that the absorbed mana used is a mix of the mana of person they manifest as, and AJs mana. Mixing AJs mana with more of AJs mana is likely pointless for the spirits manifestations.
amendment: it’s clear to me now that the reason AJ doesn’t have her mana in the crypt is because it’s being used in some way for the spirits manifesting. Which raises the question, are the spirits the same when AJ isn’t there? are they less active? More vengeful? Do the simply not appear? I need to go watch the vod of drifts first time in the crypt to find out i guess.
