Days 19 and 20 of Ben Drew’s The Kraken.
Day 19 was a week or two ago. Day 20 I made a lot more progress because I'm hanging out with my grandparents for the long weekend and it's the first time all year I haven't been adjacent to a task that I should prioritize over stitching.
Day 18 of Ben Drew’s The Kraken.
I finished boat #2, added the lobster, and started adding more of the border.
It's been SO LONG since I've updated!!! I'm sorry about that. It's been a rough year. But I picked Ben Drew's The Kraken pattern back up and worked on it a bit more.
I didn't keep track of every time I picked it up, but we'll just call this Day 17.
I haven’t really spent time crafting since January as the whole selling a home/buying a home thing has taken most of my energy. The rainy weather also gave me a ridiculous amount of high pain days, which took most of the remaining energy.
Although this is my cross stitch blog, I figure crocheting is a type of stitching. So I wanted to share that I finally started crocheting my brain hat for April’s Science March. I believe this phase of construction falls into “condom style.” 😂
Day 3 of Ben Drew’s Cyrillic mini sampler.
I didn't end up having as much stitching time as I'd hoped this weekend - there was a lot of moving of possessions, corralling cats, and grabbing naps to counteract the physical exhaustion. But I did make some progress! Yay!!!
It's been super busy over here for the past few weeks. We had painters here today, so I finally got the chance to sit down and stitch a bit more of Ben Drew's Cyrillic mini sampler.
Here's hoping I'm able to do a bit more tomorrow! (I've really needed a break from running around doing house stuff.)
Holy cow! 500 followers!
Guys, I am stunned and honored that so many of you want to see the projects that I work on and complete. (None of you appear to be blogs run by bots!!!) I'd love to do a giveaway, but life's a bit hectic at the moment (which is also why you haven't seen any updates in a week or so) as the hubs and I are prepping to put our condo on the market and buy an honest-to-goodness real house. (!!!) This means we're currently packing most of our possessions to go into storage for the next few months and I don't want to promise something tangible that may be delayed months. Please accept this post as my thanks for the time being. I'll likely do a giveaway mid-2017 for all of you awesomesauce people. Thank you again for your love and support! ❤❤❤
Things have been a smidge busy over here and it's been a good while since I've sat and stitched. Tonight, I took a break from The Kraken sampler to try another of Ben Drew's designs. This time, I'm tucking into the Cyrillic mini sampler as a gift for my sister, who's learning Russian. There's something incredibly relaxing about repeating motifs. I think part of it is getting into the flow of the stitching where you don't need to look at the pattern except to check to make sure that you've stitched the correct number of motifs. I need to spend more time stitching, but these next few weeks will be questionable as to my amount of spare time. I'll continue to update as I make progress, though!
Day 14 of Ben Drew’s The Kraken.
Days 12 and 13 of Ben Drew’s The Kraken.
I didn't get a lot done on day 12, but I stayed up WAY past my bedtime tonight because I got in a stitching groove. And I've started in on boat #2!!
Hello! Your blog is great! I was wondering how it's like stitching on linen? I've tried a few times, but I find it hard to see where to put the needle through and keep lines straight. Thanks!
Oh my! I’m so sorry - I just saw this and I’m not sure how long it’s been sitting in my asks! 😅
I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE stitching on linen. Part of it is I’m a very tactile person anyway and linen is soft and flexible compared to the stiff scratchiness of Aida. Because of that, I find that it makes the stitching experience more pleasant for me.
Now, stitching into the correct holes is definitely more of an issue with linen, but you’ll start looking at the fabric and seeing blocks of nine holes for each stitch. It also makes ½ stitches SO MUCH easier. This isn’t to say that you won’t occasionally stitch into the wrong hole, leaving you with a wonky stitch (I did it tonight and thankfully caught it immediately because it looked weird), but it gets a lot easier with practice.
When it comes to moving from one section to another, I try to be *very* careful about my counting - I turn off music, audiobooks, or tv and I try to avoid having conversations with people around me. If I’m counting a good distance, I’ll count it once, mark the spot, and then count again to be sure. I also use the point of my needle to help me keep track of each stitch space I’m counting. For me, at least, moving between two areas on a project is where I’m most apt to make a mistake, so I try to be overly cautious there. I definitely consider it worth it, though, for the pleasure I find in stitching on linen!
I wish you all the best in your stitching and I’m glad you like the blog! 😊
Days 9, 10, and 11 of Ben Drew’s The Kracken.
I'd hoped to get more stitching done over the holiday, but most of my time was devoted to sleeping and eating. 😊
Day 8 of Ben Drew’s The Kracken.
Day 7 of Ben Drew’s The Kracken.
It isn't a proper project until I have to frog something, and unfortunately on this one, it took me a while to catch the error, so I ended up with quite a bit of frogging.
I forgot to take a picture of where I reached when I realized I had an error, but essentially I got to where the left-most red tentacle was supposed to be touching the blue diagonal line, but was a square off. I did a bunch of counting to find my mistake. Everything was coming back as it was supposed to be. I knew I was missing something obvious, but decided to just frog the blue diagonal (even though I'd stitched it correctly) to adjust for proper fit. As soon as I'd pulled out all of the stitches, I finally figured out my mistake: while chatting the day before, I'd started my tentacle one stitch too high. *headdesk*
I was already frogging at this point and figured I may as well do things correctly. I frogged the entire flag and tentacle.
Picture 4 is where I got back to the point I was at before frogging - just with everything in proper alignment. Picture 5 is where I ended it for the day.
Days 5 and 6 of Ben Drew’s The Kracken.
I was with family down in Mexico this past week and I had NO INTERNET, so I was particularly productive on day 5. Day 6, I was chatting a bit while stitching, which lead to a *tiny* error that I didn't catch until day 7...
