(TW: short mention of body weight changes (no numbers))
My dear lgbt+ kids,
Chronic pain can make you feel weird about your body.
That's a really vague statement but that's on purpose. Chronic pain has many faces - and so it can also affect body image in many ways.
We could go into details and discuss how it can make you feel distant from your own body as you may feel like you can't trust your body to do what you need it to do. And how it can also make you feel hyperaware of your body as you need to pay close attention to bodily sensations to analyze symptoms or predict flare-ups. Or how chronic pain can lead to body weight changes (for example because of medication, physical exhaustion or mobility issues) which easily lead to body image issues in our weight-obsessed world.
But even if we talked about all that, we'd still only scratch the surface of the complex topic "body image and chronic pain".
So, let's keep it at "it can make you feel weird about your body". It can - and so can growing up lgbt+ in a cishetnormative world.
This doesn't necessarily mean that lgbt+ people with chronic pain always struggle with "Body Image Issues Difficulty Level 2 (the more intense version)" - again, there are so many different ways this could affect a person. Probably as many different ways as there are lgbt+ people with chronic pain! For example, it could delay the realization that you are trans or asexual because you might assume that the body dysphoria/sex repulsion you feel is related to or caused by your pain.
But the one thing we don't need to be vague about as it applies to all of you: You belong here. You deserve to be taken seriously, as an lgbt+ person and as a person with chronic pain - not in a toxic positive way ala "good vibes only" but as you are. With all of you, including the issues, worries or concerns other people may consider weird and not be able to really relate to.
With all my love,
Your Tumblr Dad
A bit of trivia: A lot of people don’t understand what it means to “Count sheep” to sleep. In reality it’s an Insomnia treatment method where you pick a random topic where there might be several examples that fit the criteria “Disney witches” for example or “Films that feature Dracula as a character.” It can be anything at all. "Movies with Danny Elfman musical scores.“ You don’t Google the answer. You lay there and try to think of things that fit the topic you chose and count them. That’s how you really “Count Sheep.”
Pretty much, yes.

I do this with the alphabet - like, one for each letter. Literally never made it to Z, and I promise I have the same brain-go-fast, caffeine, screen time, ADHD problems as you.
Every single cop show is like oh look how these cool badass protags just wanna do their job but the obnoxious pencil-pushers back at the office keep getting in the way by trying to make them follow due conduct and the very obvious criminal keeps maliciously obstructing them by invoking their legal rights and wouldn't they be able to do their job so much better and faster if they were allowed to just follow their gut and do whatever it takes to arrest the person they already pinned down as the dangerous criminal? And then people eat it up and go on the internet to make youtube comments about how refusing to speak with the cops without a lawyer is extremely suspicious behavior.
good morning to this legend <3
Do you ever like physically feel yourself pass your mental breaking point and then all you can think is “oh these next few days are going to be interesting”
Like you’re just sitting there silently and on the outside you seem fine and gathered but in your head you’re like “oh this is gonna hit me like a train any second”
Glad to see all 19k of us are clearly fine and okay
Queen Elizabeth II’s Death Could Jump-Start Efforts to Abolish Monarchy in Former British Colonies
As it should! And why stop there? :)
seriously wondering if we can call the uk a democracy anymore. we have a prime minister that less than 0.3% of the population voted for, we have a new king that we have no say on, people are getting arrested for protesting against the monarchy under the excuse of ‘offending someone’ and we are effectively having a day of mourning forced upon us for the funeral with important hospital appointments cancelled and people even getting kicked out of holiday lettings for the day. this reads like a dystopian world where a dictator has died, not something happening now in a supposed democratic country
“It’s a hospital not a hotel.” is one of the shittiest fucking things I’ve ever seen commented under a patient complaining about their care. No, you’re right. It’s a hospital, not a hotel. You’re paying way more to be there and you’re likely having one of the scariest experiences of your life and you’re probably overwhelmed, in pain, unwell, having a mental crisis OR otherwise stressed. The least they can fucking do is treat you like a human being. They should you your basic human needs like water and food.
