Illumination (Alvis | Lucina)
"Your son?" The female asked, seeming rather confused. Surely she wouldn’t be mistaken for an enemy or anything, would she? After all, she wasn’t a threat to anyone here. In fact, she was the furthest thing from it!
"Would you mind me asking why? I mean… Is your son just not good with people?" She added, praying that he didn’t take any offence to her question.
Remaining silent as she walked, Lucina looked around. She couldn’t help but wonder how anyone could find their way through here. She had gotten lost so easily… And she rarely got lost.
When the building came into view, she stared up in awe. It wasn’t the same as her home, but it was quite impressive, nonetheless.
"I’m sorry… I just wasn’t really expecting something like this…" She admitted sheepishly.
Alvis was silent for some time in response to the question. Some traveler like this couldn't hope to understand, and yet, it wouldn't be fair to keep her completely in the dark.
"My son," he answered grimly after a while, "is affected by a force beyond my control, beyond his as well. He is... not himself. Has not been for some time."She did not need to know that should his son see that mark in her eye, he would kill her on the spot. "So you really have no idea where you are, is that right? This is the heart of Belhalla, the imperial capital. I take it you're from somewhere far off, if you don't know this place or my face."
Illumination (Alvis | Lucina)
The princess sighed quietly as she heard him speak, before nodding faintly in greeting. While he had seemed a little bit hostile at first, she was glad to see that he had relaxed ever so slightly. He didn’t seem like he was an enemy, after all…
"It’s a pleasure to meet you." She answered politely, looking around for a few moments, before glancing back at him again.
"If… If that’s not too much trouble, I would appreciate being given a place to rest…" She had been travelling for quite some time, so she was truthfully quite tired now. All she wanted was to find a place to rest before she moved on again…
"It isn't any trouble at all. We have plenty of spare rooms -- I must simply warn you to avoid... my son. At all costs."
The warning pained him every time, but it was imperative. Especially with that aura about her. Julius had been quiet of late, but it didn't mean there wasn't a risk.
"This way. It isn't far."
The fogs made it look further than it was, but with Alvis leading the way, the treacherous paths of the royal forest were nothing to fear. He knew his way in and out better than he cared to admit.
Before long, the spires and turrets of Belhalla's grand palace came into view. He still wasn't sure he thought of it as home, but...
"Don't be alarmed. There's still no need for formality."
Illumination (Alvis | Lucina)
As the fire seemed to burn more brightly, the princess flinched for a moment, struggling to properly see the stranger through the fog. It wasn’t easy, considering that the flames also further impaired her vision…
"Ah, my apologies. My name is Lucina." She answered finally, nodding faintly as she replied. She was quite glad that he was willing to help her, but at the same time, she was alert. Anything could prove to be a trap.
"And may I ask for your name?"
Lucina. Not familiar to Alvis in the least. She looked something like Sigurd, but perhaps that was just her stance, the color of her hair -- they surely couldn't be related. No, Sigurd had a son. It was coincidence, surely.
"My name is Alvis," he answered, his voice easy despite his troubled thoughts. "I require no titles."
If she didn't know who he was by sight, then she must not know what these woods were to begin with. Another strange traveler, then?
"The night will only grow colder from here. Do you need a place to rest? We aren't far from my home."
Illumination (Alvis | Lucina)
Lucina had meant to stay at the edge of the forest, just enough to stay out of sight. She certainly hadn’t meant to get lost in the forest, and the fog wasn’t helping in the slightest.
Despite what her common sense was telling her, she chose to keep moving, hoping that she would eventually reach the other end of the forest. However, that only caused her to get more and more lost, until she was hopelessly turned around.
However, when she did hear the sound of footsteps, she slowly started to follow them. Surely working with someone else would make it easier for her to get out of here.
She had been following the other for a couple of minutes when she saw him spin around, fire in hand. That caused her to come to a stop, watching him for a few moments, before speaking again.
"I’m sorry… But I… Was hoping you could help me…" She answered warily.
The fog was too heavy to make out much outside the woman's silhouette, even as Alvis hesitantly stepped closer. He couldn't fully see her face or body, but he could feel a pulsation, so familiar... the same bloodline he remembered from his wife. It wasn't her, and it wasn't his daughter, but that was... who else would have that?
Alvis willed his fire a bit brighter to better see her face. Yes, that mark outlined dimly in her eye from this distance -- the same one he remembered on his wife's skin. Impossible. And yet...
"Don't apologize. I know these woods well. I think I can guide you out, but first... would you mind giving me your name?"
Illumination (Master Seal Open)
The path down the center of the forest was deep enough beneath foliage that Alvis could barely see, even with the help of the fire at his hands. Damp with old rain and older trees, the fog rolled in at eye level. His boots slid in the mud.
At least here was solitary, though he knew the palace forest was nothing if not unpredictable. Despite its proximity to the castle, it still had not been tamed, much like the forests he half remembered from childhood.
Even with the light drizzle of rain pattering the leaves around him, Alvis could make out the sound of another pair of feet squelching in the thick mud and dead leaves. That was wrong. No one else would come this deep, unless they were hopelessly lost.
He whirled around, fire bright in his hand, to face whoever was following him.
"Who goes there?"
Side-stepping (Alvis | Soren)
Soren turned at the sound of a man’s voice. It took very little experience, and Soren had plenty, to know this man was important. Soren’s calculations skipped lord and duke at once and settled for senator or more likely royalty, possibly of an imperial nature. However there was something definitely disconcerting about this man discounting the fact he was in an odd position.
Casting a critical eye upon him Soren came to the same conclusion. Tall, certainly regal looking, yet this man was by himself. Royalty did not go anywhere unattended unless something was the matter. Also there was the small matter than he had met at least one member of every royal family in Tellius and this man was certainly not Tellian.
He stood, robes dripping, ignoring the impulse to shiver. How was he to answer this foreign royalty? He owed him no alliegance and the man had no guards to arrest him for rudeness. However if he wanted to learn more about his situation so a politer approach was preferable.
"I would indeed be appreciative of one sir." Â He climbed away from the stream, taking his wind tomes from his belt, knowing their enchantments would have kept them dry, but not appreciating the extra weight on water-heavy clothing.
Alvis kept a careful watch on the stranger, but nonetheless gestured to a patch of grass that seemed dry enough. Without so much as cracking a tome or gathering wood, he breathed a word and a flame blossomed at his fingertips. He set it down on the ground before sitting on a rock at its side, willing it to grow only large enough to warm the both of them and not to spread past the limits he'd set.
"Take a moment to rest and dry off," he said, staying detached even as he tried to place just what he was picking up, what that mark might mean. He couldn't stand feeling so out of his depth. What he didn't understand was dangerous, and while he might have asserted himself with that bit of magic -- enough usually to mark him as dangerous to strangers -- he couldn't say if it was enough just yet.
(If we're still on the subject of Alvis VS People, what do you think his relationship with Deirdre was like pre- "Julius-gets-taken-over-by-the-embodment-of-Satan", all things considered? Because I actually like the two of them together a lot more than Sigurd with Dee-Dee, even if they are related by half blood. Do you think they had a decent relationship?
I really think they did. A lot of my feelings come from the Oosawa manga especially, where Alvis is really kind to her and defensive of her at the same time. She's lost and afraid and doesn't know where she even came from, and Alvis just wants to protect her.
I guess I like to see Alvis and Deirdre's relationship as less coerced and more being drawn to each other. Granted, there's a lot of weird bloodline stuff there, plus "hey you look like my mom!", plus the fact that had Deirdre remembered her previous life, her feelings would probably be different.
And I think he's in denial about Sigurd, about Manfroy manipulating them -- the writing's on the wall, and he forces himself to ignore it because it's terrible. Alvis genuinely loves her, and I think she genuinely loves him back. Things might be complicated after Sigurd dies, because Deirdre would have seen him as gentle and compassionate before then, but it's pretty obvious that Alvis is devastated by her death, so I think they find some way to rectify their relationship as Alvis becomes emperor.
Canon does say Alvis never loves any other woman. Cyas exists, but that doesn't mean he had any romantic love for Aida. I think that's true and pretty important -- Deirdre was the only person outside Azel that Alvis opened himself to and grew attached to.
As of FE5 we know that Julius can be ill and that it is usually his half-brother Cyas who comes to cure him. Is Arvis aware of Velthomer's archbishop's real identity? Is he berating Cyas for letting Julius live instead of letting the host die and kill the thing that has taken over him?
((I think Alvis is aware of who Cyas is, but may still have some uncomfortable feelings around Julius. Also, if Julius were easy to kill, Alvis probably would have been able to do it himself -- I don't think a typical bout of illness would kill him off; just make him miserable for a while and worsen his mood, meaning more destruction.))
You say your bloodline will become extinct, but what about your other son? You know, leadership stars and all?
"...If you mean who I think you mean... he does not seem interested in continuing that line. He is not a fool. This is the best way to end things."

Side-stepping (Alvis | Soren)
Soren’s cause for alarm was quite evident. He had absolutely no idea where he was and that lack of knowledge was disturbing him greatly. Usually there was some indication of placement, be it in the dusty tracks of over-large paw prints or the edible foliage about, however even some of the plant-life seemed unfamiliar.
Also there was the small matter of the stream. He had woken up, lying on the ground and had risen into a fit of dizziness. The world around him had shaken a little as he side-stepped about a tree, trying to get his bearings. It had been that exact moment when he had fallen into this stream. Now he was wet, lost and very disgruntled. Â It would be very convenient if someone were to find him about now. Even a laguz would do.
Alvis had begun to think that perhaps his recent tendency to end up in foreign places was Manfroy's doing. Yet another way to disrupt everything, not that there was much Alvis could accomplish in the palace anyway.
It didn't much matter what he thought of that. What he had to do, immediately, was get back to the palace before something disastrous happened -- at least he might be able to stop something that awful.
He decided to follow the current of the stream he'd found, usually a good way to come to civilization. But instead of civilization, he found the telltale pulsations of some manner of bloodline, different than his own, but one that resonated nonetheless.
It was unsurprising when he caught sight of a boy with a very visible mark on his skin. What was surprising was the fact that he was soaking wet.
Cautious, but curious, Alvis raised a hand in greeting.
"You seem as if you could use a fire, traveler."
What are, if any, the kind of interactions Arvis has with his eldest son?
We don’t get the full picture of what Alvis did when Julius was possessed. Alvis is mostly resigned toward Julius — he’s a little hostile, but mostly he seems to have accepted that he’s powerless. I think that’s mostly because Alvis at this point knows quite well just what his son’s been transformed into and has given up hoping the boy he raised is still in there somewhere.
Alvis is constantly trying to subvert Julius’ effective rule, working against him to free the children captured in child hunts. He tries to help Ishtar get away, also. But for the most part, he understands that he’s become disposable to what’s taken over his own son.
Chapter 10 is where they have the most dialogue together, and gives a good idea of what things might have been like for the years Julius was possessed. My personal headcanon is that Alvis tries for a long time to get through to Julius, but eventually is forced to give up.

Trials & Errors (Alvis | Edward)
Edward had always wondered what it was like to be a mage. He was mesmerized by the various abilities of what they could do; with just a few simple incantations, you could unleash the power of darkness, light, wind, fire, and electricity on your opponents! Edward always wondered what would happen if he tried to read from a tome.Â
Curiosity always got the best of him, however, and, despite him internally screaming at himself that it was definitely a bad idea, he took one of Micaiah’s Light tomes with him to try and see if he could do something.Â
"Now, let’s see here…" Edward opened up the book of incantations, and quickly skimmed through the pages. It wasn’t long before he looked up from the book, and realized that he didn’t understand a word of what was written on the tome. He had never felt the need to learn the ancient language. However, being the curious person that he was, Edward decided to read from the book anyway.
He opened up the book, and began to read some of the lines by looking at the letters. Fortunately, there were some phonetic sounds underneath each letter, so Edward read quickly enough as if he was an actual mage. He looked up after finishing the line, but nothing was there. Edward sighed; he just wasn’t gifted with the art of magic.Â
Edward went to return the book to Micaiah, but heard a crackle behind him. He stopped in his tracks, slightly afraid. He reached for his sword, but all he grabbed was a pocket of air. He had left his sword when he took the tome. Edward mentally slapped himself, before deciding to see what was going on.Â
[hey there, mod here! please remember to follow the whole masterlist; I noticed you didn't show up on my activity page. doing this helps us all find and follow you and helps everyone, no matter the canon, feel included c:]
One moment, Alvis was absorbed in his work; a stack of papers concerning a conflict in the southern part of the empire. Nothing important, but tedious enough to keep his mind off everything else. The next he was standing in an unfamiliar hallway, right behind a boy he'd never seen before. However, he was short enough and shabbily dressed enough that he might be one of Seliph's hangers-on. Delightful.
Well, at least he had his tome with him.
"If this is some sort of ruse from your rebel cause, I hope you're prepared to burn alive for your mistake. I spare no mercy for children."
