Sure am mad that while Crowley and Aziraphale are talking at the Globe and there’s a the lull in the conversation, it’s filled with Burbage reciting “the pangs of despised love, the law’s delay, insolence of office,” also known as the moment when Hamlet bitches about unrequited love, the shitty legal system, and bad bosses. Ahem. I said, ahem.
hey um. so im a massive nerd. and i actually have a list of all the episodes in this order. including torchwood and class. im not even intending on watching it like this.
For more reference and possibly the ability to compare with sounds in your own native language:
- Crawly contains the /ɔː/ sound (it’s an “o” sound pronounced at the back of the mouth; sounds differently depending on whether the speaker is American or British, the latter rounding the lips, the former not). NB: it’s the fond sound found in the onomatopoeia “awwww!”
- Crowley contains the o diphthong, written /əʊ/ in British English and /oʊ/ in American English. A diphthong is a combination of two vowel sounds, the first being closer to “o” in American English, closer to “uh” in British English, the second being a short “ooh” sound. Both diphthongs are pronounced close to the lips. NB: a simple word that contains that diphthong is the word “no” or the onomatopoeia “oh!”
