These stupid cobwebs always had to be on the very tippy top corners of every room, it was the most frustrating part of her job. She had scrambled across the room dusting, sweeping, killing any pests that managed to scurry out of crevices. But now there was nothing left to do but try and reach them.

She jumped. Well that was aimless, she was far too short to jump that high, managing only a few inches up the wall.

She pushed a chair up to the wall. No luck there either, even jumping on it only got her halfway.

She was so focused she didn't even see Charlie's Dad lounging and watching her, he called her name. Her heart stopped, did he say Nellie? No one else but Alastor knew her real name. She brushed it off. He was offering to help her.

"OOooo! Yes, please, King Bad Boy Sir!" She lifted her arms, one hand holding an old fashioned feather duster, for uppies.

He had no idea that he had spoken the woman's name from life-- After all, it was only the result of his poor memory for such things. It would take time before he was able to get around to learning everyone's names correctly.

Nonetheless, he was happy to give her a hand. As she reached upwards he couldn't help but laugh a little-- The King of Hell leaned down, picking her up with incredible ease. Despite his own small stature, he was incredibly strong. Supernaturally so-- He was the most powerful being within Hell, after all.

" Ah, what was that saying again? Many hands make light work? " Another awkward laugh. " That and I'm a lot stronger than I look. This? Absolutely nothing. We'll have it take care of in no time, little miss. "

Holding her with hands around her middle, three pairs of wings effortlessly appeared upon the King's back-- And with a gentle flap they were in the air.

“I understand that you are the Prince of Pride. But Lucifer, that is not something to be proud of.” The blue angel fluffs his wings like a puffy, angry bird, arms crossing his chest. The King of Hell looked like, well, Hell! The dark circles and heavy bags, this devil is a mess.

“Well we are going to make this the last time you’ve done without sleep. Come along, off to bed with you!” Lucid claps his hands before stepping closer with a gentle shooing motion.

" I never said I was proud of it. It's just the facts. " Sleep was not something that came easily to the King of Hell-- And there were so many different reasons for it.

Sometimes he didn't want to return to the nightmares that he was bound to be plagued by. Sometimes he simply couldn't calm his brain enough to enter a state of sleep. Sometimes he simply got too involved in what he was doing, forgetting that he needed it.

But the nights that he would lay in bed, alone, tossing and turning were always the worst of the bunch.

Yet he would still allow the Seraphim to begin shooing him off to bed. " I appreciate it, really. But you're pursuing a pointless endeavor. Trust me. "

"Can you just give me a chance?! I -- I'm not like all the other angels." Unprompted.

Lucifer was hesitant about the young Seraphim's presence. It was true that he had heard of her from Charlie-- Her meeting in Heaven had ended badly, yet it was Emily who had agreed that her ideas may have merit.

... But her presence in Hell was a dangerous game; one that Lucifer was not certain that he wished to take his chances with.

" I don't doubt that. " His voice is gentle-- It contains none of the harshness that an angel from Heaven would expect from the Devil himself. " ... But I do not think it is wise for you to be down here. For you to associate yourself with... this. " He swallows hard, trying to find the best way to word his concerns.

" ... Hell is no place for someone such as yourself. And if you were to Fall, I fear that Heaven would... take it as a reason to double down upon us. So I must request, again-- Please return to your place in Heaven. Your kindness is appreciated, but this is... Not the place for you. "

It took a lot for Adam not to bite at Lucifer. Earned?! What the fuck kind of happiness did the fallen angel earn that wasn't stolen from him? From his descendants? Everything Lucifer loved was made from the shattered dreams of humanity's failure.

Adam's eyes glowed as his voice became stiff.

" I saw your girl's cute little picture book. I know exactly what you guys think of me and Heaven. But no, I haven't heard your story of Hell. So enlighten me sire...."

" As I said, that is a version of the story simplified for the eyes of a child. ... You, Lilith, Eve, and I all know what truly happened in Eden. " He speaks softly, a certain calmness in his voice.

" I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Adam. You are right. I should have spoken to you instead of simply going behind your back. ... I was wrong in so many ways. ... But it doesn't change what happened. "

Lucifer stares out over the city, his weight against the railing of the balcony. Adam was listening to him, for once. That was more than he could ask for.

" ... After Eve was granted the Apple, Lilith and I were judged by Heaven. We pleaded our case to Sera and the rest of the council of Elder Angels. ... But ultimately our decision was decided wrong. I had willingly stepped over out Father's authority and had brought Evil into the world. ... Lilith and I were unrepentant, insisting that we had only tried to do what was right. But it meant nothing. In the end the two of us were cast down from Heaven and Earth. "

" When we were first cast down here, Hell was a pit of fire and brimstone. " Though the blackness of his arms is always visible, Lucifer makes a point to pull up his sleeves-- Revealing just how far up they go. " ... The fires were hot enough to burn even I. ... Not even my magic can cover them, as I cover every other feature that brings me shame. " Having made his point, he pulls his sleeves back down and continues. " ... If I had been cast down here alone, I would have stayed in the fire. I would have suffered the fate that had been given to me. ... But I could not bare to watch as Lilith burned. I lifted her from the flames almost as soon as they began to lick at her. It took all my strength to create a place where we could safely rest, but it was all worth it if she would not suffer. ... She was only human, after all. "

" ... But you know Lilith as well as I do. She was always an ambitious woman, Adam. She would never settle when she could have more. ... I think that's what we both loved about her. " And he can't help but laugh softly. His beloved Lilith...

" ... She saw that I was able to create in this realm and requested that we make it a home. We were meant to reside here for eternity, after all. There was no point in suffering for the sake of it. ... And all I wished to do was make her happy. Everything that she would ask for, I would create it. It was not long before we had a castle of our own. She found herself able to create life from the flames and dust... In time we would build ourselves a kingdom with our blood, sweat, and tears. I was not given a kingdom, Adam. We built ourselves a kingdom because she would not let us suffer just because Heaven said we should. "

" ... And as for Charlie? She did not come about easily. ... We lost many children before her. We discovered that Lilith had been cursed to not be able to bare children when we fell. ... Our little girl, our everything, was what we worked the hardest for. ... I gave up a lot to ensure that she could even exist in this world. "
