John Mulaney: Kid Gorgeous at Radio City (2018) dir. Alex Timbers
The purest thing I’ve ever seen
Oh us? Us? You are the first king to come here in centuries and now you speak of “us”?
The Cap Trio in the future
Steve: I’m going to strap grenades to my body and then jump into a Hydra base!!!!!!
Bucky: No!! *Turns to Sam for help*
Sam: *Also strapping grenades on his body" imma do a back flip.
Bucky:!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
why divide people by unrational things when you COULD divide them by whether their word for cotton candy is valid or not ?
examples:
american english: cotton candy ✅ good
british english: fairy floss ❌ not valid
spanish, german: sugar cotton ✅ good
french: daddy’s beard ❌ NOT VALID
I’m sorry the French call it what
this was the best joke of the whole show tbh
That’s in the middle of the Civil War
#POOR BRUCE GOT TROLLED
It’s now canon that Rhodey makes all the Avengers bow to Tchalla whenever they meet him.
T’Challa: Really, Colonel Rhodes?
Rhodey: Have you SEEN their FACES? YEAH.
jake and amy + their weird kinks, a thrilling saga (part 2)
“Well, we were just hanging out one night, and I looked over at Amy and it hit me. She’s incredible and my best friend, and I just knew in that moment I wanted to spend my life with her.”
Turning Mulan’s main villian into a female witch is such a shitty move. Mulan defeated a powerful man in front of a nation where women weren’t looked as equal and strong to men. This movie showed a woman breaking so many barriers by going up against the most feared man in China, and using her smarts and wits to take BOTH him AND HIS ARMY down. I get that live action remakes tend to have some changes and some changes are not gonna live up to everyone’s expectations …..but this one change I 100% cannot get behind because it’s such a disservice to what Mulan mean’t and represented. Having this movie be directed by a white person, and written only by white people is such a bullshit move, Disney. Yeah, Disney had white writers for the original Mulan movie too, but they also had a female Chinese person write the screenplay because you can’t fucking write a story centered around a Chinese legend without involving Chinese people to work on that story.
Look here, I’ve been watching Mulan at so many stages in my life. From my childhood years, teenage years and now as an adult. But throughout the stages, the messages have always been clear. Mulan is a story about how a culture that’s centered around men where the women are subjected only to getting married, bearing a child, taking care of the house, being a filial wife. They didn’t see a woman being able to do what man can do, with woman being expected being prim and proper and let me quote the song
Let’s get down to business, to defeat the Huns Did they send me daughters, when I asked for sons? You’re the saddest bunch I ever met But you can bet before we’re through Mister, I’ll make a man out of you
Did you see how female were being painted as at that time? Why do you think the cartoon started with mulan “bringing honor” to the family by having to be selected as a wife???
Mulan breaks the whole stereotypical thinking about brawl will win everything. It doesn’t matter what is your gender, esp if your opponent is vicious male, it will always be brain over brawl. Shan Yu the man villain, out of all people in the story, quick to notice this about Mulan. When he is facing her, he is more cautious of what she has up on her sleeve rather than what she’s going to do with him. Never once she is ridiculed or being looked down on her gender. If anything it is more on his confidence in his strength, viciousness (and maybe experience) against her which afterall made him so powerful to begin with. Mulan doesn’t have a superpower or strength like a male. She overcomes everything in her own way despite the fact that she’s a woman. SHE DOESN’T TRY TO CHANGE HERSELF. Changing the villain to a female absolutely changes one of the most important messages in the story. We have seen so many disney movies with female finding their destiny but was somehow, ironically, being placed in a position where it works for them. But Mulan is different because she’s a female character that’s fighting for her way in a circumstance that doesn’t favor her. No prince charming. No friends (except for that tiny ass dragon and lucky cricket who somehow only managed to help occasionally). No people who supported her. And most importantly not in a society where her presence are being welcomed heartily which ties back to why it’s so important to keep the villain gender as it is. She started as a simple person who just wants to protect her loved ones. For standing up and determined on what matters to her. A woman who finally at the end of the day succeed in bringing honor to the family without being subjected to the stereotypical notion of a female gender.
Changing the villain to female, takes out the whole beauty of the story. I don’t mind them taking out Li Shang from the picture, but Shan Yu is crucial for the storytelling.
IN THIS CURRENT WORLD THAT WE’RE LIVING IN, IT’S IMPORTANT FOR KIDS (AND WELL ADULTS TOO) TO LEARN THAT, THE MORE THINGS ARE BREAKING US, THE HARDER WE WILL COME BACK JUST LIKE MULAN. Male and female is essentially different from each other, but things can work if they’re not being denied their rights and instead being guided according to their strength. Get it now?
I can’t believe what I just watched. I truly never thought I would see this day. The South and North Korean presidents meeting at the DMZ, crossing each other’s borders, and walking together to the south for a summit.
I have so much hope for what this could mean for the people suffering in the North.
Granny: No printer, just fax!
I know this is for a kdrama show but like fuck this speaks to the patient population I care for and my frustration with the US right now.
is this what growing up is like
me at 14: wow, protagonists in media my age! how relateable!
me at 28: WHY ARE THERE SO MANY CHILD SOLDIERS? WHERE ARE ALL THE ADULTS? WHO LET THIS HAPPEN AND WHY ARE THEY NOT BEING PROSECUTED BY LAW WITHIN THESE FICTIONAL UNIVERSES
In the same vein:
Me at 14: oh protagonists that are 17-20-ish, they’re basically adults, right?
Me at 28: Oh my Gods you’re babies who left you in charge?!
Ariel: Daddy, I love him! Me at 14: Yeah, girl, you tell him! Me at 30:
So I used to have a Russian friend who had a pretty thick accent and like a lot of Russians tended to eschew articles. She would say things like “Get in car.” And stuff.
Well one day this asshole who had been kind of tagging along with us asks her why she talks like that because it makes her sound dumb and I still remember her response word for word.
“Me? Dumb? Maybe in America you have to say get in THE car because you are so stupid that people might just get in random car, but in Russia we don’t need to say that. We just fucking know because we are not stupid.”
One time I was proof reading a paper for a Russian student. As I was correcting her paper with her, the many mistakes in her grammar started weighing on her. I asked her what was wrong, and she said, almost sobbing,
“In Russian I am so intelligent and clear. In English I am like [an] idiot”
Respect to anyone trying to master a foreign language. I get so sad thinking about that student.
The most unrealistic thing about Hogwarts is there is no overt petty drama?? There are like 5 kids per year who have to live together for SEVEN YEARS and they can do MAGIC. You can’t tell me the muffliato charm wasn’t used to talk mad shit about people. How many witches hexed their best friend’s dress robes to always be one size too small because they were fighting? And you expect me to believe that people ACTUALLY stayed in bed during curfew instead of flying through the Scottish highlands? Also the castle is designed to ruin your fucking life. Can you imagine being drunk on the moving staircases?? That’s an entire mythology of student stories in and of itself. I’m just saying, when I was in high school someone locked and duct taped a car alarm into a locker and then set it off for two hours straight and I’m 95% sure he wasn’t even a wizard
I love how literally 99% of the comments on this post are like “Yeah but it’s written from Harry’s perspective and boy is fuckin stupid”
