“Well, if a creepy stranger thinks I have no depth, then I guess I don’t.” Damon mused with an eye roll. “Don’t you have someone else to annoy?”

“Only one person. She’s my favorite.”

“Ha ha. Very funny.” she replied, unable to hold back a real chuckle at his subtle correction. Her expression softened as he took a more serious direction. “We saved each other. I never would have found my way out of there without you.” she reminded, nodding in agreement to his final statement. “ I’m glad you’re here..”

“Let me make a mistake or two. I need to catch up with the rest of your friends.” His lips purse in a subtle grin, looking at her at an angle -- eyes still shining. “I’m glad I’m here too. And.. Bonnie, you’re my one friend. Remember that.”

“High school wasn’t that bad for me, actually. I was super hot,” she laughed. “But I understand where you’re coming from. School just isn’t for everyone.” Jenna shrugged her shoulders, “Of all time? No. Lately, yes. Once you gain custody of two teenagers, you kind of lose any and all hope of someone finding you attractive.” She laughed at him and shook her head, “Well, that is very sweet of you.”

“I think it’s impressive. Two whole teenagers?  Not the easiest thing. I was a twin, and I that’s not to mention my siblings. I know what it takes to raise a human person.” Kai grinned widely. “So yeah, I might not get to meet high school you, but that?  That’s super hot.”

“There’s still a stigma around it as well, so good luck,” she laughed halfheartedly. He was pretty lucky that he hadn’t grown up in Mystic Falls. The old ladies at church should only gossip about how attractive or unattractive they found him. Jenna wasn’t so lucky. “Oh, that is probably the best compliment I’ve ever received.”

“Anything beats going through high school again.” A hilarious thought, considering just who and what he was. As for stigma.. he was used to it. His brow tightened at her words. “The best?” he questioned. He knew she was just being playful, but visibly, he was taking it as a challenge. “Well, I think you’re very pretty. Pretty fun, too.”

“there’s a lot of them, and they’re bad news. ‘kay. do they have names?  distinguishing features?” kai was excited. powerful, magical beings that just happened to be wandering the small virginian town. it was an opportunity if he’d ever heard one.

“They sure do,” she nodded. “I think it still goes through the school system, even.” Jenna would be lying if she hadn’t looked up how to obtain a GED recently. She didn’t have the highest hopes for her nephew actually graduating. “Oh, it’s just Jenna. I like to think I’m still young enough to forgo the ‘Miss’. Let me give you my card,” she opened her purse and dug around until she found a slightly crumpled business card, “Sorry, my purse destroys everything I put in it.”

“Thank god.” He had very weak intentions to get a job; to create a life. But, he knew it couldn’t hurt. Assimilating if only for the fact that he could. No living person in Mystic Falls ( that he was aware of ) knew his secret, and he still had a good two years left. Maybe to even assemble his own coven -- a band of people under his spell. He took the card, flashing her a smile. “Oh, I didn’t think you were much older than me,” he assured her. “But Jenna it is.”

“Tolerable. I think that’s the nicest thing someone has said to me all day.” Sophie chuckled, flashing a smile at Kai. “Well, after the first impression, it can go a couple different ways. Depends if you like them, hate them, or find yourself somewhere in the middle.”

“Is that because.. no one else has talked to you today, or is everyone actually an asshole here?”  He’s listening to her words, his face unreadable; in thought. “So?  How’d I do?”

“I wouldn’t put it that way, but yeah, pretty much.” Bonnie chuckled, smiling as she listened to witch. His next comment surprised her, and her expression softened for a moment before she shook her head. “You probably should go. You didn’t suffer for almost sixteen years just to end up getting hurt because I did something stupid.”

“Technically, it would be me doing the stupid thing.” His tone was casual, fun, gaze meeting hers with a soft playfulness. Then his smile faded, became modest, and he’s nodding at her. “You saved my life,” he said upfront. “Right now?  You’re needing a bit of saving.”

“Hey, we’ve all been there. I don’t know about sweet, but I think the grill is always hiring. It’s not a very glamorous job, but it’s something. If you’ve got a diploma or GED, the real estate company I work for is looking for a receptionist. We don’t get a lot of business, so it’s pretty easy.”

“GED it is. They still offer those?” Maybe there was an online thing. He’d have to hit Bonnie up about it. Any records Kai had would be too old to pass off as his own, so of course it was the only option he had. “I wouldn’t mind the hookup, Miss...?”

“Oh, are you new in town? We don’t really get a ton of visitors. Anyway, there’s a B&B three blocks down mainstreet. It smells like mothballs and the woman who runs it is ancient, but it’s cheap and has great water pressure.”

“Actually, I’m couch hopping. Cheap’s good when you’ve got a dime to your name but uh, haven’t gotten to that point yet. Know of any sweet job opportunities instead?”
