Pastel’s note: okay so, last night, when i found out that ARCHIVE OF OUR OWN IS FUCKING HACKED, i didnt know what the hell to do. so i opened my laptop and wrote... something. its been so long since i wrote something, and this one is in very different style than i usually did back in the time where i was pastelbear12 lmao.

this one is about two of my OCs in my genshin self insert delulu ( @aly-kurta knows what i mean LMAO). and i decided to post it here. whatever. enjoy.

I remember it vividly like it was yesterday. Like my sole purpose in life is to hang that memory prettily, in a silver frame with fancy carvings, in my mind. Etched in my mind like a nagging thought.

It was the coldest day of winter, three years ago, in the heart of December.

I was just from the neighboring city to buy things, walking through the blizzard, when I found a deserted house. I thought it would be nice to catch a break, napping for an hour or so hoping the blizzard would come to an end soon, or maybe eat the steam bun I bought in the town to warm up my stomach. I envisioned a wet fireplace, tattered couches, and icy floor. Truly, I expected everything, other than one thing.

Within those forsaken walls, I didn't expect I would find a woman here.

She was on the brink of death from a long list of illnesses, and the horrible state she was in was laughable. And so, I laughed. Out loud. She could barely look at me, barely even breathe. She fainted some seconds later—she wasn't dead, I noticed her still breathing, barely—and I crouched down beside her body on the sofa. Examining her face. Her body. Her condition. Her, in general. I looked at her.

I deemed her the most captivating being my eyes had ever beheld.

I wanted her. I always like pretty things, so, she seemed like she wasn't owned by anyone, so I just carried her from that cold house and rushed through the blizzard, my plans to take a break soon forgotten. She felt weightless in my arms. So light I had to look down at my arms ever so often to make sure she hadn't been whisked away by the tumultuous wind.

I reached the nearest town there and found a fireplace also. I put her down on the floor of another abandoned abode, but this one had a dry fireplace. I lit the fire. The crackling flames cast an orange glow upon her pallid countenance. The snow on her face melted on her cheeks. I wiped it away. I couldn't take my eyes off her.

It would be so, so easy to kill her, I could just trip and fall on her body and she would die dead, and that fact made me laugh again. Really. She was the puniest person I'd seen. And also, the most beautiful one.

I wanted her to be mine. I collect pretty things myself. She could be my next item on the list.

She woke up a couple of hours later. Her confusion evident but I assumed she recognized me. The man who laughed as she teetered on the edge of death. Funnily, she thanked me, and I couldn't help but laugh again. Not because she was funny, no, because she was stupid. My first thank you in such a long, long time. Little did she know, that her beauty was the only thing stopping me from throwing her frail body to the fire, pouring gasoline on it, and leaving her as such.

I didn't tell her any of that though. I just smiled.

"What's your name, love?"

She seemed confused about things. Myriads of whats, whys, whos and hows going in her pretty little head. I understood.

"I don't have a name."

That surprised me. This woman managed to surprise me twice, in a day.

The next hours were spent on her telling me all about her, and it was so reckless and naive of her to say these things to a man she just met, particularly one such as me—a murderer. It was her unlucky day to meet a murderer like me. But she looked grateful for my presence there and I didn't wanna ruin her fantasy. So I just smiled, pretending to be a decent man, just cause I loved seeing her talk. She was so beautiful.

And then I found out that she was dumped by her supposed-to-be family. She never got the luxury of a name. People called her 'Nameless Girl'. Shame. So I offered her a name. She was painfully obvious with her excitement even when she tried to hide it. She couldn't hide anything from me. She was adorable. I told her, that from then on, her name would be Anastasia, or for short, Tasha. Without any particular meaning attached to it.

She liked that, I could tell.

"Do you have a name?"

She looked curious and apprehensive. I didn't see why I should lie.

"Yes."

"Can I have it?"

I snicker, thinking of something that might trigger an amusing reaction from her. I wanted to see that reaction.

"Have my name? Do you mean it as wanting to know my name, or have it, maybe, for your last name?"

She blushed. It was a sight for sore eyes, making its way to a hidden corner of my heart I never knew existed.

"I was joking. My name is Makoto."

She looked at me with wonder. Maybe she was considering whether to address me as her first friend. She then tasted my name on her tongue, the sound cascading like a sacred mantra, sending a shiver down my spine.

I liked how she said my name. I liked my name better after I heard her say it. 'Makoto' never sounded so delightful before.

I was thoroughly amused by the whole situation, so to make things even more interesting, I decided to give her a little 'shock'.

"Tasha. I'm actually a murderer."

Tasha widened her eyes. Yet her calmness returned far more swiftly than I had anticipated.

"Okay." She had said. It almost disappointed me that she appeared unfazed by my revelation. Such ignorance.

"Aren't you afraid? I could kill you anytime."

She shook her head.

And after that, I found out that this woman was even more pathetic than I had surmised. She had a heart problem. She got sick easily. She was weak. The word "weak" fails to adequately describe her fragility. It explained her ignorance of the predicament in which she found herself—alone in an abandoned house with a serial killer—cause no matter what she did, she was gonna die anyway. Should she attempt to escape? Her heart would fail her. Should she remain here? She'd die cause of her own foolish decision to befriend a murderer. Lose-lose situation.

Nobody could ever fathom the itchy feeling coursing through my veins the whole time. I wanted to try, to hurt her. With my hands. The temptation was so overwhelming my hands started to shake.

But I didn't hurt her. It was a blur afterward, and suddenly, I found her sleeping soundly by the fireplace. And I observed her again in her slumber.

The next day, I brought her a gift. A bloodied corpse—an innocent man who had the misfortune of crossing paths with me as he wandered alone down an alley. I threw the lad before her. Carved my initial on his left chest before her eyes. I did it all to let her know who I was.

Dangerous. Cruel. One wrong move, and I'd do the same to her.

She looked at me in horror as I kicked his face into an unrecognizable mess. She threw up when I hung his body with cuffs, blood dripping down the cuts I meticulously made all over his body. She slept in my arms peacefully that night. The same limbs that just tortured an innocent man, wrapped around her waist securely, warmly.

It was sickening. Disturbing.

From that point, she's always been with me, in my journey everywhere. Anastasia is the witness to my cry for joy, my cruel homicides, and my explosive anger. She is always unfazed. She always looks at me as if I were an enigma she was determined to unravel. The way she looked at me unsettled me. I'd beg for her to keep looking at me like that.

Ugh, she's annoying. Insufferable. Burdensome. I wanna kill her.

She coughs blood whenever we walk more than five kilometers in one go. She can't run. Can't swim. She gets a fever every two weeks. She faints all the time. She's really weak I don't even know why I'm keeping her with me. Maybe because I like pretty things. And she's pretty. Beautiful. So beautiful that I just wanna kiss her sometimes.

So, last week, I did.

It was an accident. I love accidents. Or maybe it wasn't an accident. Pretty sure it wasn't, no way it was. I don't repeat accidents; I learn from them. And last week, I kept repeating the 'accident'. And I've learned nothing from it.

We were in the Fatui headquarters, her in my room, and I was just back from a mission from the Balladeer. He’d seen her, and never understood why I'm so stubborn as to keep her by my side. I question the same thing, and that's why his queries are never met with a clear answer. I want Anastasia by my side, end of question.

Scaramouche, my father, scoffed at me. Stella, my sister, rolled her eyes. The Tsaritsa looked at me, half disappointed, half intrigued. Arlecchino and Sandrone just didn't care. Pierro narrowed her eyes. Pantalone forgot where he put his glasses. I couldn't understand Columbina’s gaze. I couldn't see The Capitano’s face. Pulcinella just looked at me, then Anastasia, and walked away. Tartaglia laughed. La Signora laughed even harder.

I would do all of the things aforementioned to myself too.

And so after all of that, I approached her. She was beautiful, and frail, like a porcelain doll. She heard my footsteps and turned to me. She smiled. A mistake. For it drew my attention to her lips. Her dry, chapped lips.

I got the urge to moisten it.

And so that's how I kissed her for the first time.

I could feel her sharply inhale a generous amount of oxygen from her nose, tensing up beneath my touch. But true to form, just as in every situation where I managed to surprise her, she quickly regained her composure. And so she didn't fight back. She allowed me to kiss her lips, so feverishly, to push her further until her back met the window frame. Let me put my hand behind her neck.

I pulled away, just to kiss her again. This time, she kissed me back. Tried to kiss me back. I almost laughed at her poor attempt. It was cute.

I relished it.

And I struggled to make sense of the situation, to decipher its meaning.

I still do.

"What are you doing?"

Now, back to the present, she's now sitting on the window frame. Like how she did last week. Of all the designer-made clothes and dresses I had purchased for her, all with perfect measurements, she chose to wear mine. A pair of jeans, and an oversized shirt. She's practically drowned in that shirt, it was ten times bigger than her. Her hair, just like when I first saw it in the abandoned house, was jet black. Before, it was shoulder length, but now, it has grown to her waist. Slightly wavy. Pretty.

I caress her hair absentmindedly.

"Nothing," she says, and she flashes me a smile. "I was doing something though."

"Care to share?"

"Mhm." She says it like a sing-song. Melodious. I like it. "I was waiting for you, that's all."

I join her, sitting on the window frame. Studying her features. Beautiful.

"That's all?"

She nods. I take her hand. And she lets me. On this spring night, it was quite warm. I can feel her bones beneath her thin skin. I'm afraid I might crush them if I held it too tight. But I'm also afraid I might lose her if I didn't.

How should I hold her hand? Neither are good ideas. What is happening to me.

Dilemma. The realization mortifies me, and I immediately slap her hand away. Regret it in a second when I hear a small cry of pain from her.

"That's alright," she says, reassuring me. "You seem troubled."

You're troubling me, woman.

But I don't say what's on my mind. Instead, I shake my head. "I don't think I am. But you? Undoubtedly."

I'm met with confusion, and she asks me why I think that.

"Because don't you feel so useless? Empty? All you do is wait for me sitting silently and not doing anything until I arrive. When I do, all you do is just talk. You can't do anything without me, can you?"

She doesn't look offended. She just smiles into the distance. To the moon, perhaps. I wish I was the moon.

"You're right. I can't."

I look at Tasha’s profile. She's like a sculpture made by Aphrodite herself.

"And? Have you done anything to fix that?"

She shakes her head. "No, I haven't."

She's making me exasperated. I let her know of that. She smiles, sadly this time, her gaze isn't on the moon anymore. Now, is to the Snezhnaya cityscape beneath us.

Why won't she just look at me? I feel dumb for getting jealous of a mere cityscape.

"Is it the time? The time when you finally find me a burden to you? When you realize I'm just holding you back?"

Of course it is. It is always the time. She's a burden to me. She holds me back. I don't hide it from her, I let her know even.

"Yeah. You've been a burden to me. You've been holding me back since the day I found you, Anastasia."

Finally, she looks at me. I grow breathless. My heart is racing. I hate it. I've never wanted to tear out my heart so badly before.

"Then, should I leave?"

"Where?" I grit my teeth. Where does she think she can go? I wager my entire fortune that she'd die in her first kilometers from here. Or cough blood as she descended the stairs. And die as a fool.

"Somewhere."

How vague. She hasn't even decided where to go. She knows so little about this wretched world.

"Somewhere where I can ensure I'm nowhere to be found by you."

"No."

She looks at me, looking confused.

"Why not? You said I'm a burden."

"Did I ever say I would allow you to leave?"

Her breath catches. I lean in, furious, angry, sad.

"You're not allowed to leave. Ever. Understand, Anastasia?"

"Yes."

Her eyes reflect the moonlight and the stars and my whole world. I love her eyes. I love them even more when they gaze at me, and only me.

"Then... I'm sorry."

Yeah. Be sorry. Be so sorry to me. Cause she has no idea how much she has wronged me. How she's disrupted my mind and stirred my emotions, making it difficult for me to restrain myself from kissing her—

No. Don't look away. I'm terribly upset.

So I grab her chin and force her to look at me. Like this. This is better. She looks at me, bewildered, and I lean in closer.

Our breaths mingle.

Her hands on my arm and chest. I worry the fast tempo of my heartbeat would hurt her frail hand.

I look into her eyes.

And hers into mine.

"You're a burden. You hold me back. Never question that ever."

I whisper.

She ceases to breathe. She's holding her breath.

The blush on her cheeks says hello to mine.

"And I want you to hold me back more. Hold me back as much as you can. Be more of a burden. Cry, whine, fall ill, and scream. Do it. You're stuck with me until the day you die, and you have no other choice."

There. I've said it.

Her lips part.

"Makoto..."

My name. Coming out of her lips. Pure bliss.

"Yes." I pant, the feeling inside my chest suffocating me, something is punching my heart and I revel in every second of it. "Yes, I'm here. What do you need?"

She smiles and kisses me. And dear God, I don't object to this. I want nothing anymore.

A sinner just finds himself in heaven in this godforsaken world.

“I apologize, I must have disappointed you.”

Poor boy literally spent DAYS analyzing your likes and dislikes in order to take you out to the perfect date, as you both made plans to go out on the weekend.

He spent so much time trying to sort out potential places to go that he ended up with nothing on the day you both wanted to go out.

He stood there, in front of your door about to pick you up, with the guiltiest expression on his face. (Well as guilty as a cyborg can look, ykwim)

says sorry for about 100 times before he shuts his mouth. You literally have to stop him mid sentence for his explanations to end.

“IT’S OKAY- you could have just asked me where i want to go instead of making it so hard for you. I like Aquariums, why don’t we go there?”

“Oh.”

Feels like the most stupid (person) in the world at that moment. Had he known it was this easy, he probably wouldn’t have gone through such lengths. (He would have. Cuz boy doesn’t realize that he’s in love with you.)

Usually Genos is pretty blunt and forward, i guess that’s why trying to come up with something was so hard for him. For the first time, trying to ask you directly didnt cross his mind, as he wanted to make you happy all by himself.

You both spent the rest of the day at the aquarium, with you admiring the sea animals, and him admiring you. He realized after a while that his gaze was stuck on you, and definitely made a mental note to ask dr. Kuseno if there was something wrong in his system.

EVERY TIME YOU MENTIONED THAT AN ANIMAL LOOKED CUTE, HE PAMPERED YOU WITH INFORMATION ON THAT SPECIFIC ANIMAL.

Like the tension would be all romantic, you’d be looking at glowing jellyfish, and he’d be staring at you, smiling a tinsy bit. Then you’d say something like “look Genos! That jellyfish looks so cute!” And the next second, Genos would turn into a search engine.

“That’s an Aequorea victoria, also sometimes called the crystal jelly. It’s a bioluminescent hydrozoan jellyfish, or hydromedusa. It can be found off the west coast of North America. The species is best known as the source of aequorin, and green fluorescent protein-“

“Okay- thats enough genos.”

All in all, it would be a pretty fun date! Genos would end the day by saying “I really enjoyed going out with you, Y/N-san. Next time I will take you out to someplace even better. No mistakes allowed.”

Guy heard “let’s go on a date!” And rolled with it.

Though his idea of a “date” might look a bit different.

So of course y’all ended up in an all you can eat buffet.

And he won’t be paying for it 💀 (the fee might look a “bit” expensive, make sure you take a good amount of money with you)

Chugs down a plate after the other, so at least the money isn’t wasted.

Once he sees your kind of upset face, he stops taking bites of that real good steak and looks at you confused.

You were happy to spend time with him, you really were, But this just wasn’t what you thought it out to be. Of course you expected it to be at least a LITTLE romantic, even though he wasn’t your boyfriend yet, nor did he know that you liked him.

But sorry to disappoint you, romance is a foreign word for this oblivious man.

If you tell him how you feel about the date though, he’ll give you the widest smirk “you’re happy to spend time with me?” Completely ignoring everything else you said

Once y’all are done eating, he’ll make sure to walk you home, if you’re cold he’ll even hold you. So that’s at least something ?

You have to be REALLY forward and blunt with him, or else all he’ll do is tease you.

If you really wanna make him blush just straight up hold his hand, he won’t do nun. Yelling at you or hurting you is an absolute no for him.

“My sister suggested this place, ya like it?”

Metal bat pretty much has all the knowledge he needs when it comes to girls, as he has to take out and hang out with his little sister a lot.

Most of the time it’s shopping malls where his sister drags him from shop to shop for hours.

So like once they were both shopping for a cute little bag because Zenko had won a piano competition and big brother was proud asf 🤭 and ofc she had realized that he’d be mentioning this one girl from time to time.

“Big bro, why don’t you just take her out on a date?”

But like, we’re talking about a little kid here, so her advice may not be as fitting 😭 she literally only gave him tips on where SHE would like to go.

“If I were her I’d love to be taken to an amusement park, and then he should win me a big unicorn plushy !”

But Metal bat loves his sister more than anything, AND he has 2 brain cells so ofc he’d listen to her, thinking it’d be the best date idea.

A couple days later (he especially took a day off from work for you and told the HQ that they shouldnt call him even if there’s an emergency) he takes you out saying it’s a “surprise”, but once you both stand in front of the amusement park, your reaction isn’t quite what he expected.

It was an kids amusement park. ALL of the rides were fit in for children.

You were happy of course, but metal bat expected you to be fawning over him by now. (That’s what zenko at least told him. Quoting “she’ll be head over heels once you both arrive big brother!”)

“Why are we at an kids amusement park ?”

“My sister recommended it”

“…”

“…”

“Makes sense.”

Well you both already got tickets so all you could do was make the best out of it.

At least the food was good! Metal bat bought you candied apples, chocolate strawberries, cotton candy, everything you laid your eyes on.

And he got you lots of plushies, like, LOTS of plushies.

The kids there did recognize Him tho, so it took a while to get away from the crowd of children wanting autographs and photos.

Metal bat ends up feeling like he ruined your date, so you can see him being kinda upset, after cheering him up though, you both promise to go to a place that both of you could enjoy next time.

He literally has to hold himself back not to spit out the words “i love you” cuz you looked so adorable on that day. (Especially eating the cotton candy)

You awoke with a groan, your hands immediately going up to shield your eyes from the incoming sunlight. 

The splitting headache and growing nausea hit you like a truck, and you curled within the sheets, gripping the edges in your fingers. Still shielding yourself from the burning sun that shone through a window, you lifted the sheets to cover yourself completely. 

In the artificial darkness, you sighed and tried to fall back asleep, though as your fingers held the fabric, something very strange occurred to you. 

These weren’t your sheets.

You didn’t even need to open your eyes to make that conclusion, though as you opened one eye just to confirm your suspicion, the sheets indeed were not your own. These were softer, smoother and white. Furthering your hungover investigation, you also deducted that the pillows were not even remotely like yours, way larger and softer. 

Where where you?

Mentally you started reconstructing the night before. You had spent the entire night in a single club, which was unusual as someone would want to hop from one place to the other normally. The music had been good, however, and everyone seemed to be in a good mood.

You’d wanted a new drink, and before you knew it, a cute blonde at the bar passed you the exact drink you had ordered the previous time. You didn’t accept drinks from men, as they usually had ulterior motives and you really didn’t want to do anything but dance tonight. You had told him this and he had laughed, and passed you the drink anyway.

Heyyo you know how you did that werewolf fic a while ago? That got me thinking, what if the saves a werewolf thinking it's just a big dog? I know it's been done before, but I've never seen it where the person actually turns out to be dangerous. Also sorry about all of the second asks :/

The reader in this is dumb and doesn’t figure shit out, so its basically a self-insert since i also am dumb and dont figure shit out

Strays happening upon the farm wasn’t a new occurrence. 

Usually you’d lure them in with some food, try to earn their trust, and call the local shelter, who would often come and pick them up in the same week. It was no trouble, and you liked animals, so to know they would get proper care and food warmed your heart at night.

Sometimes they were too wild, not at all accustomed to humans, and would refuse to even take the food, growling whenever you would even look in their direction. It bothered you, and you were always a bit pushy trying to feed them regardless, knowing if they didn't accept your food, you would find their carcass in the next few days.

It was a rather morbid thing to say, but experience had made you accept it as a rule. There was wildlife surrounding your house that ate whatever didn’t leave the area within a few days. You’d managed to save plenty, but the stubborn ones all fell to the same fate, the creature eating them leaving naught but bones. 

You’d called a friend of you who was an expert on the local wildlife and asked if there was anything that would do that, a bear or perhaps a wolf. They’d been rather dismissive, telling you that it was merely the circle of life and that you should only worry if the creature ever threatened you or your property personally. 

While true, it still bothered you a bit. 

It wasn’t just the strays, after all, it was other animals as well. On a stroll, you’d seen so many dead animals that you had promptly returned home, your heart aching at the sight of so much death. 

Another call to your friend hadn’t solved anything either, your panicked tone only further convincing them the solitude of outdoor living was getting to you. 

“If you really want-” Jean, the wild-life expert said eventually, a labored and annoyed tone shining through their words. “-I’ll stop by next week and have a look, see if I can find any prints.” 

“That would really put my mind at ease.” You’d accepted heartily, deciding to ignore his clear dissatisfaction at having to go so far into the countryside. He shouldn’t have offered if he wasn’t willing. “Thank you so much. I’ll see you next week then!”

He’d grumbled, but eventually conceded, and you’d agreed on a time. 

The entire affair left your mind after that, and it wasn’t until you spotted a rather large figure outside of your chicken coop that the issue once again resurfaced. You stepped over the wire and looked around, seeing if you could spot it again. Slowly, a humongous canine figure came into view, its head curiously looking at you.

It was larger than the usual strays, by a wide margin, but you had seen large dogs before, and it wasn’t unimaginable for such a beast to be wandering about. You crouched down, and showed your bare hands, trying to usher it towards you. 

It took awhile, but eventually it confidently sauntered toward you, revealing itself to be even bigger than you’d anticipated from the distance. It was acting quite calm though, calmer than the usual stray. 

“Hey baby... how are you doing.” You said with a smile, hoping to seem as non-threatening as you could while the dog approached. You couldn’t resist using your baby-voice with it, dogs just filling your mind with brainless appreciation and love. The dog came close enough to touch and you carefully and slowly tried to pet it. “How did you get here?”

It was the size of a grocery cart, with yellow eyes inquisitively looking at you while you buried your hands softly in its brown fur, which went deeper than you’d expected. 

It leaned into your touch for a while, before suddenly turning around and sprinting away. For a moment, you wanted to follow it, see where it was going, but it was going way too fast for you to even try to keep up.

You sighed and went back to work. 

The next day it came back again, though this time it didn’t respond to your calls at all, simply following you around the farm while you worked. You tried to leave it some food, but it seemed rather indignified by the kibble you left, refusing to even try it. 

You quite liked having the silent beast follow you, its presence calming you greatly. A large animal wouldn’t dare attack you or your property with such a large guard dog around. Since the dog didn’t seem underfed, and you left the barn open for it to sleep in, you held off on calling the shelter, entertaining the thought of keeping this one. 

You’d decided against it thus far, knowing you wouldn’t have the heart to send away a single one as soon as you relented. A house full of dogs would be nice, but also too much extra work. Running a farm was already tiring. 

Your will broke after two more days of its silent following of you, and you even let it inside the house, which it did after some hesitation. It immediately claimed the couch as its bed, and while you worried for a while if it would carry flees into your house, you weren’t heartless enough to kick it out now that it was resting so sweetly. 

Despite the watchful protection, you were still very glad Jean would come by soon.

You’d been sleeping poorly, dreams of someone standing over your bed, touching your skin for hours on end, kept plaguing you, and you just knew you’d seen a humanoid figure exiting your bedroom one morning, though when you’d followed it down, there was no one but you and the dog.

Slowly, you started wondering if your friend was right. Maybe you were just succumbing to the loneliness of country life. You’d always thought solitude would fit you, yet as your hallucinations got worse and worse, and you kept finding more corpses out on the field, you weren’t so sure anymore.

It had gotten far enough that you neglected work, only feeding the chickens before returning back inside, where you felt safe at least.

You hadn’t named it yet, fearing your growing attachment would be complete once you’d given it a name. So far you just called it ‘dog’ and it listened, so maybe it considered that its new name.

That was a bit sad. You wouldn’t want to be called ‘human’. You would have to think of something better.

“You don’t have a collar...” You mused as you approached it, its eyes still warily following you around the room. It didn’t let you pet it like the first day, softly biting your hand, but you could safely walk up to it. Sometimes when you were reading, it would lay its head atop your lap. “Do you even have a name?”

It laid silent, and you smiled. 

It would only be two more days before your friend would come and search around the place. Two more days, and then you could sleep more easily, knowing that whatever was out there would be taken care of.

It wouldn’t be that easy, seeing as the most your friend could do was tell you what it was, but even so. It was something.

You didn’t sleep well that night, and when you awoke in the midst of it, you couldn’t find your phone anywhere. It was not a good thing to be in the middle of nowhere without a way to contact people, so you immediately went down to see if it was downstairs.

No such luck there, and in defeat you loaded up your computer, 

When your desktop finally finished loading (had it always been this slow?) your eyebrows furrowed as you saw tons of open websites, each one definitely not opened by you. Websites on search party protocols? Wildlife searches? The google search ‘temperatures human survival’? What even was a hunter’s website?

You only used the desktop for administrative purposes and a video game every now and again, so someone else had to have used the desktop. That didn’t make any sense though, since no one had been here in weeks.

It was just you. 

“Whoops.”

You turned around, letting out a yell of surprise as there stood a half-naked man with blonde dripping wet hair, a towel wrapped around his midst and a toothbrush in his mouth. As you silently watched, eyes wide, you saw him walk towards your kitchen with practised ease, spit out the toothpaste and walk back, this time sporting a large toothy smile.

“Hi Y/n. Sooo this-” “Who the fuck are you and why are you in my house? Wait. Is that my fucking toothbrush?”

“Maybe.” Shalnark answered, throwing your toothbrush on the coffee table. You felt disgusted, but you didn’t really know what to do. Violence seemed a bit over the top, especially with how calm he was acting, but still, he was a stranger in your house, and it didn’t exactly feel safe having him here. “I couldn’t find a spare.”

You sputtered, and he smiled patiently like you were the one who was being scolded here, not him for breaking into your house. You slammed your fist against the cupboard, an action that made the blonde man in front of you nearly break out with laughter. “Answer my first question maybe? Or get out?”

“You don’t look very threatening when you’re shaking in your boots.” He sat down on the couch, even kicking his feet up to the table. “And isn’t it rather impolite to send out someone in the middle of the night? You wouldn’t do that to me, would you?”

“You can stay till the police gets here, or you can go.” You bit back, indeed a bit frightened but also not calm enough to back down. “Why the fuck did you break in?”

“You swear a lot, y/n. Didn’t think you were like that.”

“Like that? Unbe- You’re a stranger in my house! Breaking and entering is also a bit unbecoming, don’t you think?!”

“It isn’t exactly breaking and entering if you let me in, though I understand the confusion.” 

“Let you in? I think I would remember letting someone in.”

He waved his hands, indicating for you to continue speaking, following your line of thought. “Are you from the wildlife association? Jean wouldn’t just send someone, he said he would come himself.” You tried.

Shalnark blinked twice and the edges of his mouth twitched upward before breaking out in laughter. 

“H-hey! You’re not supposed to be laughing. This is serious!”

“What am I supposed to do then? Be terrified? To be fair, I’m having a blast. I definitely should’ve met you like this earlier.”

“Like this? Earlier? Have you been here before?” You asked, remembering the previous bad nights you’d had, with visions of someone standing over your bed. That couldn’t be real, right?

“I’ve been here for approximately one and a half week? Been in the area much longer.” His eyes shined with something, as if urging you to figure out something.

“No way.” You rebutted, shaking your head. “I have a huge dog, there’s no way you could be here for that long without it noticing.”

Shalnark raised his eyebrows and gave you a pointed look.

“What.”

He motioned again for you to keep talking. 

“No really, why are you looking at me like that.”

The blonde man closed his eyes for a few seconds, sighed, and opened them again with a renewed smile, this one a bit more condescending than the previous one. “You’re a bit slow, aren’t you?”

“Look, my phone’s gone, im really tired, it’s the middle of the night and there’s a stranger in my house, what the fuck do you want from me?”

He smiled and looked away, this time mumbling a bit to himself. “That’s actually really cute. I can work with that.”

Remembering what you should be doing, you walked over to the landline, which was in the kitchen. You dialed the alarm number and waited for the beep, your neck hair rising as you heard him stand up and walk over directly behind you. 

 “Emergency services, how can I help you?” A lady on the other side of the phone greeted. You waited with answering as you felt him stand behind you, his presence suddenly seeming a lot more threatening. To your relief, he moved away for a moment, to the kitchenblock. “Hello? Is there anyone?”

“Yes, hello.” You greeted before reminding yourself to get to the point, as you heard him already move back to you. “I just came downstairs and there’s someone-” You felt his presence behind you again.

He casually placed a knife at your throat.

You stopped speaking. 

“Hello, ma’am? Is there someone in your house? Do you need assistance?”

The blonde’s face moved right next to your ear, so you could feel his breath wave past your hair. “Tell ‘em it’s fine.” He whispered.

“I’m sorry,” You said, a bit shakily. The knife at your throat was placed at a sharper angle, so you could feel the steel just barely scrape your skin. “It was my neighbor. I was mistaken. Everything’s fine.”

“Ah, that’s good. Please make sure to check next time before you call. Have a good night ma’am.”

“You too.” You gently placed the phone back, exhaling shakily. 

Shalnark immediately retracted the knife and instead rested his face on your shoulders, using his arms to reach around your arms and waist, trapping you in one place. “Sorry for that.”

“Can you let go of me?” You tried, your entire body on edge as you felt him smile in your neck. His hair was still wet from the apparent shower, staining through your sleeping shirt. 

“If I do that, you’ll run or something like that.” He moaned in the same way someone would after hearing their morning alarm. “I don’t want you to do that.”

You didn’t dare reply, the feeling of the knife against your throat still lingering. Shalnark and you just stood there for what felt like an eternity to you and a mere moment for him. Eventually he lifted his head up. as if just realizing something. “Oh! You must be exhausted. You usually sleep around this time.”

“Most people sleep around 5 in the morning.” You softly said, a bit bitter. 

He didn’t take offense and even laughed. “Yeah, most do. Sooo- I’m going to bring you to bed now, to let you sleep, and you’re going to calmly walk with me, okay?”

You nodded, though the possible implications of ‘bring you to bed’ terrified you. 

Slowly he lead you upstairs, keeping your arm in a tight grip, not even humoring the idea of letting you walk by yourself.

The sight of your bed, a once so safe place, now filled you with dread, but instead of trying anything, Shalnark just lifted the sheets for you, even tucking you in. 

“Don’t look so terrified, Y/n.” The fact that he knew your name wasn’t new to you, but it still surprised you somehow. You clutched the sheets tightly. “You’re scared and tired. What kind of boyfriend would I be if I fucked you now?”

‘You’re not my boyfriend!’ You wanted to scream, yet instead you just clenched your hands tighter in the fabric of your sheets, not wanting him to change his mind.

He smiled brightly. “So let’s put that on the agenda for tomorrow. I can’t wait too long with it now that you’ve seen me. I want to have you mated and sorted out before you can have the chance to getaway.”

If it was possible, your body managed to stiffen up even further. 

Still dressed in just a towel, he leaned against the doorpost, his fingers lingering on the light switch. “I’ll keep watch for tonight, so don’t think about going out of bed if you like your legs the way they are now. Good night!”

The lights went off.

The snow began to fall last night. Perfect timing, after all, today was Christmas. It just wasn’t the same without any snow. Then he trapped you here, in this apartment in a new city. All under the premise of going on vacation. Shalnark told you it would be nice, a romantic getaway. You were nervous as you two hadn’t been dating for long. But his words were convincing. Stating that it would be nice, relaxing, and help build a better connection. Just like that, you had bought it, packing your bags and leaving with him. Look where that had gotten you. Locked in an apartment for weeks, with no one, but Shalnark to keep company with. Occasionally he would take you out. Though keeping a hand on you and a threat in your ear.

So you stayed, listening to what he had to say. Doing as he wanted. You realized quickly that when he was happy, so were you. He gave you gifts and privileges when he was happy. He always asked odd questions about your day. Hinting he knew what you did. Asked about events he wasn’t there to witness. Letting you know he knew everything. There was nothing you could hide.

Giving a kiss on his cheek, you followed him to the kitchen. Excited about dinner. You had missed out on lunch due to a nap you had taken.

“It’s snowing.” He hummed in response.

“Oh, I know. I was out there.” That’s true, he was just outside.

“It’s also Christmas. Perfect weather.”

You sounded so meek, softer than you usually were. Even so, you couldn’t help the joy that lingered in your voice. Hoping he could do something for Christmas. After all, you were stuck here with him. Stuck here to have your first Christmas as a couple. Shalnark could at least make it nice. He turned at your words, putting down the food on the counter.

“Yeah, it is. Go sit down on the couch. I’ll bring the food.” He flashed you his signature smile before ushering you out.

Instead of sitting on the couch like he wanted. You decided to go back to your spot on the windowsill. Maybe it was a part of you that still wanted to defy him, or perhaps you just simply wanted to go back to watching the snow fall again. Letting it calmly relax you. Enjoying the view out the window while dinner was being set up. You heard him enter the room, but he stopped you from getting up.

“No, we can eat by the window.”

He was being kind, his voice cheery and happy. Yet, you knew he could be mean when he wanted. Even to you, after all, he did kidnap you. Then locked you away from everything. But when he got what he wanted, he was so sweet to you.

Taking his seat next to you on the windowsill, laying out your food in front of you. Separating your portion on a plate and his on one for him. He held out yours for you to take, but moved it before you could grab it.

“What do you say?”

He was so condescending at times. Holding your food a bit too far from you. Waiting for thanks. You knew he wasn’t going to give in without a thank you.

You two ate in silence. You chose to stare out the window while you ate. Thinking of what everyone back home was doing today. Did they miss you? Were they looking for you? Shalnark hadn’t told you exactly where you two had gone, so you didn’t tell them. They had no idea where you were.

“Is it good? Decided to try a new place”

“Yeah, I mean it's hard to go wrong with this.” He gave you a nod and a smile. Asking more questions about if you liked this place or the other better. The conversation then died, you went back to looking out the window. "Wonder if it'll snow harder. Kinda didn't think we'd get snow for Christmas this year."

“Which reminds me, I got something special.” He jumped up heading back to the kitchen. You could hear a bag being rustled. Then as quickly as he disappeared, he reappeared with the bag. Sitting back down he placed the bag in front of you. “For you. Merry Christmas.” You must have made your shock very noticeable because Shalnark laughed. “The snow makes today great, but I think some Christmas gifts might make it even better.”

You thanked him and opened the bag. Inside was a few things. Taking out the first object, A stack of wrapped cookies. Cute little things with Christmas designs on them, a reindeer, a Christmas tree, a snowflake. It was all so cute.

“Thank you.”

You put the cookies to the side and got the rest out. A holiday scented candle, a mug and a blanket. They were all cute, in the colours you liked. It concerned you that he knew exactly what you liked. You told yourself that you must have said something, or he just looked around at your apartment back home. You didn’t want to think about how he had probably been watching you longer than you knew him. It was easier to just pretend he wasn’t stalking you before.

“Thank you, but I have nothing for you.” Why did you feel so bad for having nothing for him?

“Oh, that’s okay. How about this? Let’s go watch a movie and cuddle. No complaining or struggling, okay pumpkin?” His smile grew so much wider when you nodded. “Then you got me the perfect Christmas gift and made it the best Christmas ever. Our first one as a couple.”

He got up and cleaned up. Letting you make your way to the couch. Using your new blanket to keep you warm. Shalnark set everything up, he picked the movies, got snacks and even a hot chocolate for you. Setting everything down on the coffee table. Sitting down next to you, pulling you close to him. Covering both of you with the blanket. Grabbing the remote he put on some random Christmas movie. You were sure you had seen it before, then again they all followed similar paths.
