To Fall for a Skywalker
Luke Skywalker x Reader Modern/College/Bookshop Au so many AUs sprinkled into one whoops and technically this a a pre college au, if I decide to continue it will be eventually (which lets be honest it probably will I love Luke.)
Warnings: Chewie is kinda like a Scooby Doo type dog in this, he’s just a super intelligent and intuitive dog but I didn’t know what else to make him I’m so if you’re not a fan of it I’m sorry I also made R2 a Tesla like car, he can self drive and Anakin made him, Threepo is like siri in Leia’s phone. I put the reader and Han in a foster home that's not really great and they kinda end up living out of Han’s car he put back together himself *cough cough* the Millennium Flacon *cough cough* so I’m putting that in here and now if that’s in any way triggering so those who want to can avoid it, I totally understand. Fluff, lotta exposition and backstory but we get to the stuff eventually, Luke is a sweetheart as always, I think this counts as slow burn??? I don’t normally write slow burn so please correct me if I’m wrong, crushin’ kiddos a whole bunch of ‘em, lil bit of Han x Leia sprinkled in for fun.

A/N: Kenna ( @a-dorin ) and I were talking about Luke and she said she wanted a Star Wars Modern AU so I said bet. This is the stuff I do for my friends lol. Also bottom is one of my absolute favorite gif of young Mark Hamill so I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. The age gaps between Han, Lando, and the rest of the gang are altered by me, I made the reader the same age as Luke and Leia (I’m going New Hope timeline with them being 19), Changed the age gap to Han being just about five years older then you three, and Lando being three years older than Han. I used she/her pronouns in this. The “~~~~” indicated a switch in pov. ALSO I WOULD LIKE TO FORMALLY AOPLOGOZE TO KENNA FOR THIS TAKING SO FUCKING LONG TO WRITE, I GOT A SERIOUS CASE OF WRITERS BLOCK FOR THIS FIC AND I SUCK SO BAD IM SORRY. Hope you enjoy!
Sometimes you really wondered how you got into these situations. Completely baffled as Luke Skywalker stood in front of you, leaning slightly on the checkout counter of the bookshop you worked in with a large grin on his face.
You decided to blame Han for it,
Han was your best friend, practically your brother, both fending for yourselves and trying your best to survive in the foster home you were put in when you were about the age of five, Han being ten at the time. He was the oldest of the bunch of you, besides Lando, who was about thirteen, though he was in and out all the time, going to school, working tons of side job he could slide by without people noticing. He wanted nothing more than to get out of there, be more than some unwanted foster kid. The ideology was passed to you and Han as well.
As soon as Han could pass by it he was working, saving. He always talked to you about making himself more than what the people around you thought of him. To them he was nothing, a rotten kid with a bad temper who they couldn’t wait to get rid of. He talked about leaving this place behind, running and not looking back.
“I wanna see the world, see what it has to offer for me, for Chewie, for you, all of us Y/N. There’s so much more than this stupid place I know it. We can be free of it someday.” you remember him saying this one night as you sat in the backyard looking up at the night sky. Chewie sat with his head on Han’s lap, his body laid across yours as you both pet his mess of brown fur. You looked over to Han.
“You promise?” Han turned his gaze from the sky to you and gave a lopsided smile, his hand leaving Chewie to ruffle your hair. You giggled and pushed his hand away.
“Of course I promise. You, me, and Chewie, finding our place in the world.”
That promise was years ago, and now you were both out of the foster system. And glad for it too. As he promised, Han stuck around until he could get you out somehow, or when you turned eighteen, whichever came first. Luckily for you Lando was able to help you out with that, making some friends in strange places certainly helped with Han campaigning to get you out of there.
By the time you were in high school Han was able to get you out of the foster home and into his custody. The two of you lived out of The Falcon, the old van Han rebuilt himself, until you could scrounge up enough money for an apartment by the end of your sophomore year.
It was tough, sure, but you were both glad to be out of foster care. With Lando stopping by to help where he could you two made it by. Han picked up jobs where he could, working mainly as a freelance mechanic, his specialty was cars, and he loved working on them, but he desperately wanted to work on planes. Piloting was a dream of his, but he couldn’t get there quite yet, and joining something like the Airforce would leave you to fend for yourself, and he wasn’t ready to leave you like that.
As for you once you were old enough Lando helped you get a job at a local bookstore, run by an extremely sweet family he just so happened to be in a loving relationship with the second eldest son. They loved you and Han. With your help and ideas the shop was going up in popularity, helping them out of the rough spot they had been in, and Han was always there to fix what was needed, most of the time refusing to take the payment from them unless the two of you really needed it.
Your high school career had its own bumps. There were subjects you weren’t that great at but luckily for you, your best friend and co-worker Kenna always offered to help, along with Han not being too much of a stickler with your grades. He knew how hard high school could be and trusted that you were smart enough to make it through it and get help when you needed it. But that wasn’t all.
For almost a year you had believed that high school romances where complete bullshit and you wouldn’t get involved in one. Never, not ever, you’d even gone as far as to promise yourself that no matter what you wouldn’t develop a singular crush on anyone. At all.
That promise shattered into a million little pieces the day you met Luke Skywalker.
Luke and his twin sister Leia were the same age as you, both ending their freshman year when you met them. Well, met them is a stretched term. In reality you ran into them, or more accurately Luke, during a school event, just as you were about to call Han on the school phone, the secretary graciously let you barrow because at the time you were saving up to get a cells phone, to come and pick you up when you bumped shoulders with him.
The both of you turned around and started apologizing in synch until you looked up at him and stopped dead in your tracks while Luke kept going.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t looking where I was going-” he went on, running a hand through his sandy hair, ocean blue eyes looking at you apologetically. You suddenly snapped yourself back to reality when you realized you weren’t saying anything and just staring which was weird, come on, pull yourself together Y/N!
“N-no I’m sorry I wasn’t looking where I was going either-” you cut off his, admittedly adorable, rambling. Him cutting off your sentence with a light chuckle.
“I guess we’re both to blame then. I’m Luke, Luke Skywalker.” he stuck out his hand to you, which you blinked at for a moment before realizing he was doing it for a handshake. You shook his hand.
“I’m Y/N, Y/N Solo.” you’d stopped using your first last name a while ago and started using Han’s instead, you thought it sounded better. Luke smiled at you and you could feel your heart simultaneously melting out of your body and beating out of your chest.
“That’s a pretty name.” you swallowed and let go of his hand hesitantly, trying desperately to fight the rising blush in your cheeks.
“Th-thanks.” Luke’s smile widened, how that was possible you had no idea, and looked at you a moment, as if trying to commit you to memory when the both of you heard a voice calling to your direction.
“Luke! Are you coming?” Leia called from across the way. Luke turned to see his sister, then held his hand up to signal for just a minute, then turned back to you.
“That’s my sister Leia, I should get going. It was nice meeting you Y/N, sorry again for bumping into you” He took a slow step back as he spoke. You nodded to him.
“N-nice to meet you too Luke.” He smiled again, then gave a wave and turned to jog off.
“I hope we see each other again!” He called over his shoulder.
“Y-yeah...me too.”
In Sophomore year you had to admit to yourself you’d wound up getting a crush on a guy. Only slightly luckily for you, the two of you didn’t have any classes together and you only saw him in passing. But when you did Luke made an effort to smile, wave or just say hello if he had the time.
Then In junior year you had a class with Leia, his twin. You didn’t normally sit together, both too focused on your work for it to bother, but you liked Leia. She was intelligent, outspoken, not afraid to call people out for their bullshit. It was that year in that government class that you were paired up for a project. As everyone shuffled around to find their partners Leia slipped into the seat next to you and stuck out her hand.
“I’m Leia, sorry I haven’t really talked to you before.” she gave a soft smile as you shook her hand.
“Y/N, and it’s fine, I think we’re both too focused on the actual class then everyone else is.” Leia grinned and giggled a bit at your comment towards your fellow classmates.
“You know what Y/N, I think we’re gonna get along just fine.” As you started your project and talked a bit you felt really close to Leia. And sooner than you’d like class was over. Your last class of the day, Han would be calling you any minute to see if you needed to be picked up yet.
“Hey if you want to keep working on the project we could continue at my house, my brother can drive us.” she said, pulling out her phone as she put her other things away in her backpack, You thought about it, then nodded.
“Sure, if that’s alright, I’ll just call my brother.” Leia smiled, scrolling through her contacts and landing on the one labeled Dad and pressed the call button.
“Awesome...! Hey dad, listen, I’m bringing a friend over so we can continue a project we were paired for in government, is that okay...? Alright, thank you dad...Love you too, bye.” With that she hung up as you waited for Han to answer your call.
“Hey kid, need to be picked up?” He asked immediately upon answering the call.
“Actually I was paired up with a friend for a project and we wanna keep going, is it okay if I go to her house for a bit so we can continue it?” Han paused whatever he was working on over on his side and shifted from holding his phone between his face and shoulder.
“Who’s this friend you’re talking about?”
“Her name’s Leia, she said they don’t live too far from the school and her brother is gonna drive us.” Han hesitated. Leia sat next to you, she could clearly hear Han, as he wasn’t normally quiet.
“...Her brother a good driver?” you looked over to Leia, who nods.
“She said yes he is.”
“...Alright, but call me when you need to be picked up. And text me the address...And if you’re uncomfortable-” You cut him off with a giggle.
“I know the drill Han. Thank you.”
“Alright stay safe.”
“I will, love you.”
“Love ya too kid.” You hung up shortly after and looked to Leia, who seemed to be texting her brother.
“All set.’” You said. Leia grinned and grabbed her backpack.
“All right lets go.” You grabbed your bag from the ground and followed Leia out the gate to the student parking lot. The both of you calling respective guardians made you miss the horrible traffic of students and parents alike trying to rush out of there, creating a dangerous mix of new, anxious drivers trying to get home or to work, and parents trying to get home or to their other kids schools or extracurriculars. As a result of your waiting the student parking lot was mostly empty, only a few cars left of the kids that stayed behind to wait out the traffic, or who had office hours and clubs on campus.
Leia led you through the scarce cars to a white one, a group of boys just leaving and waving goodbye to Leia’s brother who you hadn’t seen yet due to a taller guy with dark hair. As you came into earshot he started to move.
“I gotta get going, see ya tomorrow Skywalker.” as he moved Luke came into your line of sight and you could hear your heart practically screaming at you. He was leaned against his white car, a line of orange painted around it. He had his arms crossed over his chest and a large grin on his face, his sandy hair fell perfectly on his neck and face and his eyes...god his eyes practically sparkled as he waved off his friend.
“Alright see ya later Biggs!” He turned his head a bit and caught sight of the two of you and grinned. “There you are Leia, I was wondering when you’d show up. I assume this is your project partner.”
“Yes, this is Y/N, I think you two have run into each other before...?” you realized suddenly that Leia had called him back when you’d first met him.
“Y-yeah, end of freshmen year.” you confirmed.
“Nice to see ya again Y/N.” Luke said, as Leia rounded the car and put her bag in the trunk. You smiled back at him, praying he couldn’t hear your rapid heartbeat.
“Nice to see you again too Luke.”
“If you want you can put your bag in the trunk, we should get going.” She said to Luke as you nodded, shrugging off your backpack and tossed it into the trunk next to Leia and Luke’s bags.
“And you remembered to call dad about you bringing a friend over this time?” Luke’s tone was teasing, complementing the goofy grin he wore on his face. You couldn’t help the small smile that grew on your face watching him as Leia rolled her eyes.
“Yes, I did, you can ask Y/N if you don’t believe me she was right there with me when I did.” Luke chuckled a bit and nodded. You closed the trunk, the sound turning the attention of the twins.
“Ready?” Luke asked. You nodded with a smile, which Luke returned and open the back door closest to him for you. “Well lets get movin then!”
“Thanks” your voice was soft as you slipped into the back seat, Leia already circling around to the other side so you wouldn’t be alone in the back seat.
“No problem.” Luke smiled at you and closed the door once you were in. Leia getting in shortly after and the both of you buckling up as Luke entered the drivers seat.
Leia was right, the drive to their house from the school was about a three minute drive, five tops you estimated. On the ride there you and Leia discussed the details of your project, how you’d split up the work, exactly how to get your points across in effective ways while still keeping an audience of bored, tired, and desperately wanting to leave juniors. Luke helped you where he could, mainly on how the two of you could keep their attention long enough.
Once you reached their house you shot Han a text with their address as you got out of the car. Looking up from your phone you saw Luke, waiting patiently with you bag in hand from the trunk. He handed it to you with a smile.
“Thanks...” You trailed off as you slung one of the straps over your shoulder. Luke grinned and stepped aside, allowing you in front of him to follow Leia.
Their house was a large, beautiful two story with a slightly curved staircase when you first entered the main area to the right. To the left side was a sitting area, a piano and a few other instruments were neatly in their places near by, with a dark colored couch and a few white chairs. There was a dining table across the way, a white china case pressed up against a wall behind it with an opening to the right. To the far right, under the loft area on the top floor was the entrance to the living room.
Luke closed the door behind the two of you as you looked around in awe. The first room you saw in their house was a big as Han and yours apartment, probably bigger, and the house itself was larger than the foster home you came from, it not being a two story like Luke and Leia’s.
“Dad! We’re home!” Leia called, going through the right and taking a left past the living room. You followed her with Luke ushering you on, turning into the kitchen as you heard a deeper voice speak.
“Welcome back sweetie, how was school?” As you looked in you saw a tall man, with a darker dirty blonde hair, blue eyes that reminded you of Luke, his right eye had a long scar on the far side of his face, going through his eyebrow and just barley touching his cheek. You saw it as he straightened back up from kissing Leia’s cheek.
“Good. This is my friend Y/N, we were paired for out government project together.” Leia motioned to you with a smile. He looked over to you and you gave a small wave, Luke having passed by you and towards the fridge in the kitchen to grab an apple out of it. Their father smiled at you.
“Hi.” you said a bit timidly.
“Nice to meet you, I’m Anakin, Luke and Leia’s father.”
“Nice to meet you too.” Leia had made her way back over to you, gently placing a hand on your arm.
“Well Y/N and I need to get working, we’ll be in my room if you need us.” Leia slowly started to head back towards the staircase.
“Alright have fun you two, if you need anything you know where to find me.” Anakin said, turning back to what you assumed he was doing before the three of you had walked into the house.
~~~~~~~
“...So...is this the same Y/N you have a crush on Luke or is there a different girl?” Anakin asked with a smirk. Luke went red instantly, whipping his head around to face his father.
“Dad!” Anakin chuckled at Luke’s response.
“I’ll take that as a yes then. Well this is good, you were saying not too long ago how you wanted to see her more right?” Luke shrugged, looking down at the ground sheepishly. Anakin shoved him gently with his shoulder. “Come on Luke, it’s not like she heard me say that. You just need to find a good time to ask her out.”
“Yeah...and while she and Leia are working on a project isn’t a good time.” Anakin nodded.
“Good call, even if Leia’s supportive of your crush on Y/N she won’t want you flirting while they’re trying to work.” He chuckled as he spoke.
“...I’m gonna be in my room working on some homework, but thanks dad.”
“No problem kiddo.”
~~~~~~~
Leia’s room was everything you wished your room could be. She had cream colored walls, a very nice queen sized bed pressed against the middle wall, covered in white and silver sheets. There was a double window with flowy white curtains, a white desk sat under it. Leia set her backpack on the bed, pulling out a binder and the worksheet for your guy’s project as you looked around.
“I love you room Leia” you said as you made the full circle around her room. Leia smiled.
“Thanks. I like to keep it pretty simple. Anyways lets get started.” Leia sat on the right side of the bed, patting the left side for you to come and sit with her. You pulled your work out of your backpack as you did and the two of you got to work.
The sun was setting by the time Han swung by to pick you up.
“You sure you don’t want to stay for dinner Y/N? We’ve got plenty of room.” Anakin asked as you descended the stairs with Leia. You smiled at him and shook your head.
“Thanks for the offer Mr. Skywalker but I’ll have to pass this time. I’ll see you tomorrow in class Leia.” You said, heading for the door. Leia smiled.
“I’ll see you tomorrow Y/N. And I’ll tell Luke you say bye too.” She opened the door for you and you waved them goodbye, Anakin and Leia watching you head over the The Falcon where Han was waiting for you.
As you got in the car Han smirked at you.
“So how was your playdate?” You rolled your eyes.
“We made good progress on our project. Leia’s super nice, I like her.” you responded and Han started to drive to the apartment. Chewie barked in the back of the van, causing you to smile and turn back to scratch his ears.
“That was the brown haired girl in the door right?” Han asked. You nodded.
“Yeah, why?” Han shrugged.
“No reason...” You looked at him suspiciously, looking back at Chewie who seemed to be thinking the same thing as you.
You and Leia got an A on your project, arguably the best one out of the bunch. As the two of you worked you quickly became friends.
“Well now that the project’s over do you wanna come over just to hang out?” Leia asked as you walked through campus.
“I’d love to but I can’t tonight Leia, I have to work.” Leia nods.
“Where do you work?”
“That really cute family owned bookshop on main street. I love working there, it’s really nice and I love my co-workers.” Leia smiled.
“I’ll swing by sometime during your shift, I’ve been meaning to pick up some books anyways.” You grinned at Leia.
“Can’t wait!”
It seemed like forever and all to fast when senior year rolled around. It was oddly easier than you thought. Leia helped you keep track of when your assignments were due, sending you reminder texts and even getting you a calendar at the beginning of the year. You were breezing through it, able to balance your work, school, and social life pretty well. Your love life however, wasn’t going too great. You and Luke would absolutely hang out, Leia normally being there, and everything about him didn’t make your crush on him any easier.
To make matters worse Han found out, and he wouldn’t ever stop teasing you about it. Whenever he saw you waving at him and saying goodbye to him, Han had a comment waiting for you as you got in the car.
“Gee, pretty boy just seems to take all your attention, are you sure you aren’t cheating on your tests and day dreaming about him all the time?” You rolled your eyes at Han.
“Look you of all people know that I can only hide one secret of mine at a time, I can’t hide my feelings for him and cheat on all my exams in all my classes, that’s too much for me to handle.” Han laughs.
“Okay you got me there. But, a bit of brotherly advice? If you wanna ask him out you should do it soon. This year might be the last you see of him.” You huff at Han, knowing he’s right. After a long pause, you speak again.
“I gotta get to work soon.” Han sighs and turns back to the wheel.
“Alright, but think about it at least.” You nodded a bit, Han already driving to the bookstore.
And think about it you did. The store was fairly quiet for your shift, you and your best friend Kenna running it for the rest of the day. You’d chat as you stocked the shelves and such. Talking about tests and the end of the year coming up. You, Luke, and Leia were all well on track to graduate, something that you were all really proud of.
“Hey Y/N, we got some boxes in the back I need to sort through, call me up if you need me alright?”
“Alright! Be careful!” Kenna gave you a thumbs up and headed through to the employees only door that led to the back. After a bit you were stocking some books held behind the check out desk, the sound of the bell told you a customer had entered the store and you threw a “Welcome in!” as you put the last few books on the shelf and dusted your hands off, turning around to be met with sandy hair, gorgeous blue eyes, and a familiar adorable grin.
There stood Luke Skywalker, in all his glory in your empty except the two of you and your co-worker in the back room place of employment.
“Hey, how’s your shift?” Luke asked, tilting his head to the side to a bit. You stood there shocked for a moment, a million thoughts running through your head. Mainly how he knew you were working and why he was there to visit you???
“G-good, a bit slow but it normally is today so...What brings you here? And how did you know I was working?” Luke smiled, looking at the counter briefly as he spoke before looking back up at you.
“Well, I went to your place looking for you but Han answered the door and said you were working tonight.” You cursed Han in your head, you could already see his smug grin as he asked you how seeing your ‘lover boy’ was when you’d get home that night. You would so get him back at him for this.
You were so lost in your planning for war on your brother that you nearly missed the rest of what Luke was saying.
“Why I’m here though...I wanted to ask you a question Y/N.” You snapped out of your scheming to fully pay attention to the blonde in front of you.
“Sure, what’s up Luke?” Luke paused a bit, just smiling at you, before clearing his throat and leaning a tiny bit closer.
“I was wondering...if you’d like to go see a movie tonight? Maybe get some food with me?” It took a full two seconds for you to process what Luke had just said. Half of your brain seemed to forget English and the other half was just screaming about how Luke fucking Skywalker had just asked you out on a date. “Or if tonight’s no good we can go tomorrow or Sunday.”
“I- wait, sorry, you...are you asking me out on a date or as a friend?” Luke looked up at you, blue eyes swarming with a hopeful look.
“Well...if it makes you uncomfortable as a date we can just go as friends but it is intended to be a date so...” Luke chuckles a bit at the end of his sentence, a smooth, warm sound that makes your heart melt when it graces your ears. Immediately you’re shaking your head.
“It doesn’t make me uncomfortable at all! I’d love to go out with you! But I-I’m not really dressed well enough for a date-” Luke chuckles again, taking your hand gently into his own.
“You look beautiful in anything Y/N.” You feel your face heat up as he looks at you lovingly.
“O-okay. Y-yeah, I’d love to go tonight, I get off in about thirty minutes if you don’t mind waiting.” Luke nods a bit.
“I don’t mind a bit. I’ll wait outside for you okay?” You nod, feeling yourself smile.
“Okay, I’ll see you in a bit.” Luke smiles, giving your hand a squeeze before letting go and heading out the door.
As soon as he exits the store you hear running and see Kenna rushing up to the counter.
“Was that what I think it was?!” She exclaimed as she nearly slammed her body into the counter.
“If what you think it was Luke asking me out on a date then yes, yes it was!” your voice gets higher as you speak, excitement taking over your being. Kenna squealed, taking your hands.
“I’m so happy for you! It’s about time someone made the first move! Let close up so you can get to your date!” You nodded, rushing around to clean up and close up shop, your mind swarming with thoughts of Luke and how he was waiting just outside for you to take you out on your first date. His smile when you’d walk out, how you know he’ll open his passenger door for you....
Maybe revenge on Han can wait,
