Jury nullification is so fucking important.
This is something that more people should be aware of, if only because (in many states, at least) defense attorneys are actually prohibited from mentioning it to jurors. The law allows a jury to return a “not guilty” verdict contrary to the facts of the case, but not for the defense to inform them of that power or to argue for its application in the current trial.

Jury nullification in the United States has its origins in colonial British America. Similar to British law, in the United States jury nullification occurs when a jury in a criminal case reaches a verdict contrary to the weight of evidence, sometimes because of a disagreement with the relevant law.

i’d like to think i’m a pretty good person. i spend a lot of my time thinking about how to be a morally good person and do morally good things. i really want to have a positive impact on the world. but despite that for some reason i end up surrounded by people who aren’t all that good. they aren’t bad or horrible or evil, but they don’t seem to try to be as good as i do. and they don’t seem to care when they hurt me as long as they don’t hurt themselves. stupidly i’m the kind of person who would go out of my way to make other people happy and to accommodate them, but people never seem to do that for me. maybe my expectations are too high and i should just be happy with the kind of friends i happen to be with. but that seems unfair. all that energy that i put into the world just doesn’t seem to come back to me. sure i have my faults, but i would do almost anything for my friends and i know they wouldn’t do nearly as much for me. have i done something wrong? i try to give them space when they want to spend all their time talking to some boy, or be available when they want to cry over said boy. i constantly support them and try and let them know how amazing they are as people. but yet again, i am just someone who is there when they need, and never a priority. i think i aim too high. that must be it right? because it’s impossible for the same shit to keep happening to me everywhere i go. as a kid i just didn’t have the freedom to have that kind of a best friend, as a teenager i happened to have the worst luck with the people that i ended up with. now that i’m at uni i thought for sure i get my pick of friends and the freedom, but it still went wrong and that must be on me. or is it just that there’s no one in the world who is capable of not taking advantage of a trusting person who gave too much. fuck this honestly i’m so sick of friends and just when i think that there’s no drama it hits me relentlessly. friends are the worst. they don’t do shit. they add on to the already growing heap of stress sitting on my metaphorical chair for no fucking reason because who needs to be responsible for someone else. when we’ve gone out late at night and no one is in the right state of mind why the fuck should i be the one who makes sure everyone’s okay. why do i ruin my night to keep other people away from creeps. why do i make extra food in case someone comes over? why the fuck have i not learnt that people are the worst and the best thing anyone could possibly do is get a little cottage in the middle of the woods and live there alone and bake cookies and feed the animals and never see any human ever again. shrek had the right fucking idea before all these people fucked up his life and gave him a load of shit problems that he didn’t even need. the fuck this shit i’m out vine has never been more applicable to my life than it is right now. don’t reply to this, i hopefully won’t have wifi in my ogre cave if you need me send a raven that’s the only form of communication i’ll accept and if there’s any hint of human in the letter i’m burning it so sorry if i don’t reply straight away i’m busy being an ogre fuck off.

On this day last year 23-year-old Korryn Gaines was killed by Baltimore County police and her 5-year-old son was shot in the limb.
She was wanted for a traffic violation, but apparently a SWAT team thought she was way too dangerous for them to try and arrest her without fatally shooting her.
I still think about Korryn a lot.

I mean… I was diagnosed with depression…
I haven’t been diagnosed with depression but I did go to therapy when I was in high school. I feel like I might need it again, I work and I went to school but I just don’t want to be around people. I will continue my education online and I will keep working but I wish I had more energy. I was recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia and my engery levels are really low and I don’t have much time to be with my friends. I wish my mom understood better, she doesn’t and before I was officially diagnosed, she would tell me to stop whining. When I was in high school, she thought my depression was me being possessed and not actually depression even though she was depressed at some point in her life. When she realized before, sending me to therapy, she would tell me I had nothing to be depressed about. My depression isn’t being sad all the time, its about having no energy to do what I love and while half of that is also the fibromyalgia, I sometimes don’t feel like eating or sleeping. Sometimes I wonder what life would be like if I was in a mental institution or if I didn’t have to go to college and have a job which requires me to be around people. I love working with children but some days, I just don’t want to do anything. I used to write when I was deep in depression but now I don’t even want to write. I read fanfiction and I listen to music but sometimes I wish there was nothing I had to do, work, school, having a plan for the future. It’s too stressful.

I got diagnosed with major depressive disorder almost a year ago in that time I’ve lost and gained more Weight than I ever have, self care is up and down and I deleted majority of my pictures of myself off my social media but I’ve been on anti depressants since my diagnosis and it definitely helps and when I’m more financially stable I’ll be going to therapy consistently but symptoms still linger it’s a very odd feeling you never just snap out of it and it’s not always sadness it kinda feels like your in limbo all the time it’s like that episode of spongebob when squidward finally moved away. I’m doing a lot better now and things like meds and meditating directly influenced that

i was diagnosed with clinical depression almost five years ago and as much as it seems like it sometimes goes away, it still comes back just as fucking hard. i get stuck in my head listening to the imaginary voice telling me i’m worthless and don’t have the energy to get out of bed and not scroll through my phone constantly. i hate that i get defensive and angry so quickly and can’t express myself the ways i want to because i’m too insecure and self conscious. my mom said it was fake, that my sister and i are just feeling these feelings for attention. this shit sucks man.
