I’ve finally overcome my writer’s block and I’m happy to announce that I’m finally posting the first six chapters of my fic, Shattered Ice, on my AO3! If it sounds familiar, that’s because the first chapter was a quick one-shot I posted here as a rewrite of one of my old scrapped fic drafts.

But, now it’s a full fledged fic following the redemption of Frost. Plus, this will be my first fic with Frabba (Frost x Cabba) as the primary ship, but I’ve still kept some classic Frit banter, even though it isn’t the ship at hand.

Was able to find an eBook of the official black and white to screenshot (thank you library!) and finally settle my hunch that the more widely available full color scanslation of this line is very likely a mistranslation or pulling something out of nothing.

Sure, no translation is perfect and some may judge the official VIZ for some changes such as using Hercule instead of Mr. Satan (which this translation acknowledges in its character intro page) but, when the interpretation varies to this extent, it's suspect. I've mentioned before that the timeline doesn't add up with this popular placement of Goten's conception, as he is born in the same year as the May Cell Games and would need to be born two months premature to fit into the last possible moment of December. Assuming the Dragon World doesn't have mysterious new months ala "Smarch" in the middle of summer or something...

This line still remains one of the biggest fandom misconceptions and it's probably not helping that one of the easiest to access scanslations online at the moment corroborates it, not to mention everyone wink wink nudge nudging at the fact that Goku and Chi-Chi have Gohan leave the house during that week.

Anyway, sorry, had to get this out because my brain suddenly decided now to maybe check the Libby library for manga. I might try to hunt other little nitpicks in the scanslation that bother me less so, but don't worry, the usual gay lizard programming will return.

Why is it so hard to find Dragon Ball black and white/limited color scans? If anyone has a good source, let me know. This is also partially because I want to see alternate translations since I'm skeptical of a few things in the full color scanslation I've been using.

Was genuinely not expecting any anime news from what I thought would just be a game news presentation- The regen animation is absolutely entrancing to me.

However, even in a revised edition of Res F, they're still keeping that irksome detail of having Frieza regenerating in his armor. It doesn't make sense. It's a separate article, not biologically part of him. There's even storyboards for the original movie that show him without the chestplate. What are they so scared of that they won't draw him without?

I've heard the "First Form Frieza wouldn't be recognizable without his armor" excuse- suggesting the shoulder pads is the hinge that recognizing a horned pink and purple reptile man relies on? And it's not the same Dragon Ball revival "it's been so long since you've seen him" era as the original movie anymore.

Trying to hold myself to actually doing one-shot stuff tomorrow, but I'll give you the little hint (okay perhaps big hint) that I'm working a bit with pre-reveal Frost. He definitely has some persona masking going on and I headcanon that his publicity side is... a tad cringe, so much that when he can finally drop that act, he cringes at himself. Anyway, there's a bit of that sort of dialogue in my notes that might end up on the cutting room floor- I'll see how much I can get away with.

What do you think a frit fusion would be like basically a fusion between hit and frost

Frost and Hit fusing would be a matter of trust for both parties. I feel like something that's not explored enough with fusions is the melding of minds and having autonomy that is only half your own.

Frost is highly guarded and would shudder at the thought of not being 100% in control of himself and also having his thoughts so easily read by someone else. He'd relish the idea of being in control of another being, but not when it comes with the trade off of handing over some of his own reins. Fusion has a high level of both intimacy and vulnerability, things that are uncomfortable for both parties.

Even when this level of trust is reached, there'd definitely have to be some work towards balance- Hit is definitely a calm stream versus Frost's more volatile personality. The contrast would definitely make for a somewhat uneasy initial fusion. Perfected, I imagine it would emphasize Hit's serene flow state, but definitely be a storm to be feared if tipped off.

I also imagine, in terms of technique, Time Skipping would be a rather unpleasant feeling for an uninitiated Frost. Don't spam it else it'll leave the lizard a bit nauseous once undone.

Also, let's not think too long about how the Potaras would attach with their ear shapes.

Bit of a hot take question, but are there any popular ships you don't like?

I try to be careful with this sort of thing- most of the time if I don't ship it I simply don't bring it up and, in some cases, I block the tag if it ends up in my feed a bunch. I essentially use "Not on My Lawn" rules rather than a ship DNI- essentially, don't bring it up in replies of stuff discussing other ships/interactions with those characters.

Anyway, to actually answer your question, a popular ship that baffles me is Bra/Bulla x Goten- I think I've seen it called "Broten". They have no real interactions (that's not the problem here), so the ship hinges on the kids of rivals (Goku and Vegeta) falling in love and preserving Saiyan genetics (as a hypothetical kid between two half-Saiyans would still be a half-Saiyan instead of a quarter-Saiyan).

The glaring issue, however, is that this ship ignores a roughly 13 year age gap between the two (Age 767 vs Age 780). By the time Bulla's 18, Goten is already in his 30s and I doubt he's waiting for her. Even without the year numbers available, the gap is obvious in pretty much any DB media with both of them in it (the ship's been around since before DBS- which literally features Bulla's actual birth- but even then there's clear evidence of the gap in End of Z and GT). Even aged up, I don't think the "they're both adults" justification can really work with Goten knowing Bulla as a child (when he himself was already growing into his teens).

The rivals' kids to lovers route has other combos through Truten (Trunks x Goten) and Bullpan (Bulla x Pan), but neither fill the second "purpose" of Broten, which is Saiyan genetic preservation. I don't understand the seeming fascination with trying to keep the Saiyan biology percentage from dropping (a phenomenon that has also prompted shipping Caulifla and Kale with happily married U7 Saiyans), but they don't realize that trying to accomplish this with U7 Saiyans alone can only work once before the family tree turns into a tangled shrub. Saiyan genes are also proven to be stubborn, as GT's epilogue shows Goku and Vegeta's descendants with very distinctive Saiyan spikes (in Vegeta Jr.'s case, impressively resisting Bulma's blue/purple hair genes) and the ability to turn Super Saiyan. In this scenario, Goku Jr. is 1/64 Saiyan and Vegeta Jr. is likely the same or close to it, so really the Saiyan percentage is really only an issue of a number on paper.

Broten also has a counterpart in Trupan (Trunks x Pan) which has the same rivals' kids dynamic and a reduction in Saiyan genetic loss (3/8 Saiyan vs 1/4 and 1/8), as well as the same exact issue I have with Broten- the exact 13 year gap (766 vs 779). However, you see Trupan shipped a lot less and more noses turned up at it for having the same issue as Broten because Pan is seen more as a "kid" despite being a year older than Bulla. Identical issues but I've only seen one get its due flack.

GT has done a lot of damage to Bulla's perception and overly "maturing" her between her highly cropped outfit and a scene showing her being hit on by guys who are older teens at youngest (a situation that is quickly and thankfully shut down by Vegeta), even though she's only 9 going on 10 (14 to 15 in the Funimation dub which puts GT later in the timeline). Pan's crop top isn't judged the same way, as she at least has sleeves and jeans. Bulla's game appearances are affected similarly, giving her access to the "Sexy Smile" flirt technique in Fusions and Dokkan categorizing her under "Peppy Gals" (a category that Pan doesn't qualify for unless she's fused in Pandel or Bulpan).

Even if you're not down with Truten yaoi, there are so many het ships possibilities with Goten- there's Valese in GT, several classmates in the DBS manga's Super Hero chapters... and if you don't want a character too out of nowhere, I've found that Marron is very rarely brought up in the ship discussion.

Genuinely asking what are your thoughts on kale/caulifla or caulifla/cabbage both as ships/friendships I do feel like caulikale is more platonic in the manga as compared to the anime tho it's basically canon she like caulifla at this point legends basically confirmed it still I like both ships in general

Just to cover myself in case this breaches my usual corner, Caulifla and Kale are not siblings. I've done a whole info post on the matter.

Caulikale is a personal favorite ship of mine, pretty much the closest yuri ship we have in the franchise. It's a refreshing counter to everyone who seems to ship these two with any Universe 7 Saiyan for the sake of "saving the Saiyan bloodline". I skimmed Fanfiction.net once during a major AO3 outage and found zero Caulikale and droves of Caulifla shipped with Goku or Goku Black.

Caulifla seems to be slow to pick up on Kale's crush on her- the blushies, the possessive instinct- or even her own feelings towards Kale in general. She's the one to throw "sworn sister" around a bunch and there's even a scene in the dub when she tries to snap Kale out of a rage that reads so much like a confession that ends up getting "dress up and travel together" syndrome at the end.

I'm choosing to believe that this is in-canon self-censor on Caulifla's part in denial of the true meaning of her feelings and yet to find the correct label. She's surrounded by a whole gang of Saiyan dudes and she never really feels a spark towards any of them, they're just blurs, "none of them make me feel the same way I do with Kale". Someone needs to tell her what a lesbian is.

Caulifla and Cabba is something I see less- a little bit more in the manga maybe, but less in general. The two are on opposing sides of the moral coin. Justice-centered straight-laced Cabba of the Sadalan Defense Force is the "fun police" to Caulifla's bandit operation (I imagine there was a bit of a sibling conflict back when Renso was part of the Force)... and at times, he can be a bit of a doormat.

Why I see it more in the manga is Kale is less jealous in this version (her priority being more of wanting to prove herself to Caulifla) and Caulifla's operations are more "Robin Hood" in nature (something Cabba witnesses that lessens the hostility). I'd subscribe to the U6 Saiyans being a throuple in the manga canon.

I’d be happy to inquire about your headcanons. Although, this question isnt so much about a “headcanon” as it is “compatibility”.

What characters would you say make a good match for Frost? Obviously, you enjoy Frit and Frabba (as do I) and sorta see Friest (in a one-sided sense). But I’m curious if you view any other characters as compatible ships for Frost? Or maybe just interesting in general.

Whether a pair would be "best" for him is somewhat of a interesting dilemma. My current Frost ships do have their own layer of drama.

I imagine that Frost and Cabba's relationship was rather prominent during the whole con, maybe not official or even confessed, but the sparks were there as a developing crush on a comrade in arms, for both sides. Obviously, the reveal complicates things and, while Frost's feelings were genuine, it would be hard for Cabba to think that their relationship wasn't part of the ruse as well. Even if the reveal never happened and Frabba proceeds blissfully idyllic from the outside, there's that nagging notion that Frost can never be 100% honest with his partner. If anyone were to discover his true colors in any other circumstance, it would be Cabba, whether due to a slip of the tongue when his guard's down or the Saiyan witnessing something he shouldn't. Cabba is manipulated into staying hush-hush, but those familiar with the pair don't know why they're suddenly so cagey around each other.

When it comes to the bounty on his head, Frost is not simply one to lie down and take it and fights against Hit after a quick ruse to attempt to catch him off guard. Once he confirms that Hit does not have the contract in hand is when he starts returning to his regular self, sassy and teasing. If Hit's not here to kill him, he feels more inclined to screw around with and poke the bear. The relationship is a delicate balance and Frost lets himself unknowingly grow attached despite the fact that the threat of the assassin's call to duty hangs in the air like a precariously swinging sword. Hit seems to find Frost at least somewhat entertaining, perhaps to the point where he'd buy the contract himself to keep Frost alive on his terms. Their manga counterparts could have a similar dynamic with less of the knife-to-the-throat in the background, but since Frost has more of Frieza's conqueror's pride, I imagine he'd be stubbornly trying to bag this all powerful assassin, one that's quite the looker at that, to earn himself "points" that no one's actually tallying.

Friest is one-sided to me, with Frieza taking advantage of his touch-starved counterpart. Frieza is cunning enough to keep Frost absolutely loyal- Frost wants to believe it's true and, pretty much anytime there's a strong doubt, Frieza is able to spin things back in his favor. The lingering unease keeps returning and, if not for the ruse pulled with Gohan, betrayal might have still been in the back of Frost's mind. If not for touch starvation, the two lizards would absolutely be full-on territorial. The fact that Frost is not this way from the get-go clues Frieza in that this one can be strung along easily.

In terms of other ships, I don't really have any that come to mind that aren't just aesthetic-matches, but if anyone has some other Frost ships I haven't considered, let me know.

Ok, so in the midst of the DBS return hype with The Galactic Patrol, Chris Sabat (Vegeta's English VA) mentioned that, when it comes time for dubbing, he's very much on board to reprise Vegeta (no surprise there) but he also mentioned that it'd be understandable if, due to the physical demand, he got recasted.

Of course, my brain, with this information, devised a wild (KEY WORD HYPOTHETICAL) scenario that likely won't happen but it'd be crazy if it did.

So, awhile back, Chris showed interest in having Nick Landis/Lanipator (Vegeta's VA in TeamFourStar's Abridged series) succeed him in the role of Vegeta. It's a hefty grain of salt whether this wish would be acknowledged given it was in a tweet and mentioned leaving him Vegeta post-death in a will (this scenario would be retirement), but imagine if it was and one of the biggest fan names in Dragon Ball inherited English Vegeta himself?

There'd be controversy, obviously, but especially internally, within the cast because of Sean Schemmel (the English VA for Goku himself). Other official VAs have praised the voice work in the Abridged, but Sean has been the most vocal about his disapproval of the whole production, not even just to the point of refusing to say TFS lines in his Goku voice but outright considering it a threat to the official release (y'know, the same official release every episode tells you to support when disclosing itself as a parody) that needs to be stricken from the internet. Now, in this hypothetical scenario, you're asking him to work closely with one of VAs and co-founder of the fan project he's so against?

However, quitting over this would pose another problem- if he leaves the role of Goku, someone else would be Goku in his absence and Sean is very elitist about being Goku. He'd never retire from Goku, he'd have to be dragged out kicking and screaming even when he gets too old for the role and then slander his replacement on the way out.

So, it's a hypothetically lose-lose scenario unless he swallows his pride about one of these matters.

With Valentine's Day around the corner, perhaps I'll lock in and finally get out the one-shot that's been cooking in my notes for a bit, then figure out which of the requests (requester offered two options) I can work best with. Anyway, treat to tide you over... I've touched on the Frit-Freest rivalry before but I've recently brain AMV'ed it to Baumkuchen End Credits. Hit not confessing (or perhaps even realizing) until it's too late and Frost has already been foolishly swept off his feet by a manipulative with no good intentions Frieza.

Hey so I saw that you liked the fanfic ungaurded so I want to know if you have read the fic saviour of demons if not you should definitely check it out it's about frieza basically when he arrived on earth and he and king cold had to face Goku who let frieza live but killed king cold it's pretty psychological and explores frieza's psych and mind it deals with PTSD and goes in deal about the whole mind of cold family i highly recommend it

Haven't heard about it until today, but I decided to give the first few chapters a read just to get a feel for it and it's pretty interesting so far. Frieza's Super Saiyan PTSD is something we get very quick glimpses of in canon and of course that's not going to get unpacked in a battle shonen, much less with a villain character, which is why I like seeing psychological analysis/takes in fics and headcanons. I think this is a fic I might come back to later.
